- Contrary to popular belief, 2 dollar bills are still being made. But why? There are several reasons they still print $2 bills, all addressed in this bonus footage from the makers of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary. See some great footage from the BEP in fort worth, texas.

I used to get them for Christmas as a kid. In 2014 we got my dad's inheritance and my wife knew I loved $2 bills and went by the bank and got me $40 worth. I gave them to everyone for Christmas that year and kept a few. I used one at Walmart and the cashier thought it was fake and called the manager over. He wasn't any brighter than her and started to deny its use and a police officer got in line behind me and laughed at them and told them it was real. Morons of the world. I still have one taped to my gaming shelf. I see it from here. Thank you my wife. I miss and love you my soulmate. Ill see you in heaven one day my love.

Unlike other denominations, when you give someone a cash gift in $2 bills, they'll always remember who gave them the money when spending it. They're the ultimate "gift cards" because they can be used anywhere with no strings attached!
The strippers appreciate it when I use them over $1 bills.
@@nachobroryan8824 Yeah, you're giving them more. Or even if you aren't, it's still easier to use them because not a lot of stuff costs just a buck; but if they need something cheap it could be under $2. Maybe that's why they appreciate it a lot -considering they work on tips.-

The Navy paid in two dollar bills when I was in so that businesses (mostly bars) would see what effect the Navy had on the local economies.
GA
Nice, when i was growing up in Maine the two big "gentlemen" clubs would give back 2$ dollar bills to encourage better tipping, at the end of the night everyone would be trying to spend their 2$ dollar bills so their wives wouldn't catch them with them so a lot of them came into my store. By the time i entered the navy DISBO wasnt giving you your pay anymore, all direct deposit.
This is a very common practice by a number of different organizations and businesses. In our feature film (from which this channel is based), we showcase a number of them. Thanks for sharing.
I watched this video, expecting they would mention something like this. I was disappoint.
@@Mopki3 The video has to do with why they print them NOW, not back in the days of paying people in the Navy.
Some time in either the late 60s or early 70s the San Diego city counsel claimed that the US Navy contributed nothing to San Diego and was a drag on the city's economy. The local commandant ordered that all sailors and marines be paid in $2 bills for one pay day. There were complaints all over the city (and county) of the number of $2 bills. The city counsel shut up.
We've heard that. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Stop printing $1 bills for a while and offer banks $2 bills and $1 coins for their customers.
It's a good idea, and we agree, but people will be beside themselves. Americans are used to what they're used to and probably wouldn't react well if you're took their $1 bills away.
Lol they took our dolla billz
Yeah... the more economical $1 coins last much longer than the notes, but then again, we can’t get people to embrace the metric system for crying out loud. Nope, we’d rather divide measurements into halves, quarters, eights, sixteenths, etc., rather than base everything on 10. Remember kids, one mile is 5,280 feet, but one kilometer is 1000 meters. Yeah... difficult. 🙄
id be cool with that.

$1 coins are too much like quarters. I saw so many people give improper change as a result. But the worst thing is when people try to use them in vending machines.

Perspectives people....not everyone has your perspective on life. They may know things that are simple to them and many but you have no clue about because you don't care.
I won't say this is common sense either, because we are hard wired to be selfish and mostly care only about our own perspectives. However, just think of how others got to their point in life, the struggles, the positives, and things they would care about to get them where they are today.

I like 2 dollar bills, it helps me identify idiots
Actually what REALLY identifies idiots is 200 dollar bills. I heard about someone who paid for a meal at Mcdonalds with a 200 dollar bill with George W. Bush on the front of it. But that's not the great part. The great part is, that the cashier ACCEPTED it and made change for it. And that's how the 200 dollar bill identifies idiots.
That really is a bad way to identify an idiot... With that logic where do people fall that dont understand the susan b Anthony coins

Two dollar bills would get used a lot more if vending merchants were required to make their machines accept the bills. Having a wad of ones in your wallet can get inconvenient, and using a five dollar bill in a vending machine gets you a pile of quarters in change. Now that vending prices are getting higher, having twos in circulation would be handy.

This video gave a generic answer to a somewhat specific question. We don't need to know the reason they print new bills, but why they are still making the two dollar bill specifically. Why haven't they discontinued it?
They said demand? They print the denominations that are needed/wanted. People go to the bank and ask for specific bills, banks therefore always have those bills on hand.

Cut to months later, i had hundreds of dollars in $2’s and ended up just depositing them all in the bank because i needed money haha but it was fun having a massive stack of $2’s
Okay, let's get real here. The one dollar bill is worth approximately 25-cents in buying power compared to its value in 1979. If you used two-dollar bills, you can carry twice as much "small" change in the same amount of space.
For myself, I started using dollar coins (yes, them shiny hard things which NEVER WEAR OUT) and proceeded to put $20k (twenty-thousand) in circulation over a period of five years. Then they started coming back as used and tarnished, so I switched to two-dollar bills.
The general "public" life of a dollar bill is between six months to maybe three years. I've got 1979 Susan B's which still show up in reserve rolls of dollar coins when I get them every six months or so (about 25 percent of a thousand-dollar box of coins). These coins are FORTY YEARS OLD!
The bizarre thing is that the Federal Reserve banks are sitting on tens of millions of dollar coins instead of getting them into circulation. If a "dollar" is only worth 25-percent of its buying power compared to its 1979 value, then dump the chump change and start getting the coins and two-dollar bills into circulation.
You'll note that Canada switched from dollar notes to dollar coins OVERNIGHT and NEVER LOOKED BACK! Then they did the same thing with their two-dollar note (that's them "loonies" and the "Twonies" as referred to in Canada).
Coins NEVER WEAR OUT!
While we're at it, let's bite the bullet and get rid of the penny (really, unless you're buying stuff per pound of pennies, why bother with them?).
(and you wonder why America has been called the laughing stock of the world?)
Couldn't agree more, but the American public just can't get used to these "odd" denominations and coins, and so the habit has to be broken somehow. People are too used to $1 bills, and mostly refuse to use $2 bills and $1 coins. This channel hopefully opens some eyes about the $2 bill, but something drastic has to be done to get U.S. citizens to more readily use the other forms of currency out there.
I keep one in my wallet for good luck.

10 years ago I had a cashier at McDonald's insist there was no such denomination after I handed them the bill. They called over their supervisor, whom also had never seen a $2 bill and was confused. The manager had to finally intervene and convince them that it was authentic and legal currency.
I will bring a lot of $2 bills when I visit the US just to see their faces when paying with it. @@DeathAngelHRA
Lunch lady refused $2 bill from a kid, others had called police on them for counterfeit $2 which is real money at that time. Stories are here on CZcams.
I've been refused when I tried to use a $2.00 bill because the clerk thought it was counterfeit.
@Re Up I live in Los Angeles and have been refused service because people thought it was fake 😂
Friend paid me back $60 in $2 bills. Still have those bills from 10 years ago.
I’m so happy to finally se this video
You mean you're happy to see a video on this topic?
Yes lol I’m just so excited can’t keep my texting straight lol
Why do they print a 1 dollar bill? Just make a 1 dollar coin.
They did for a while. The Sacagawea dollar, scarcely bigger than a quarter as I recall. Had a sort of gold tint to it...
I’d rather use paper money than coins. They should just stop printing ones for a while and print more 2s
In Cambodia we use it as lucky bill or protection and we draw word for luck on bill note
same here in America they are good luck bills. I keep one myself
I'm Buck but there we take it to other lv on bill we write old word or bible word on note and in Cambodia no one will to take 2 USD bill they say it just good luck no value 😅
I used to have two but I have one and I am happy for it.
The only reason why I don't use my $2 notes is most vending machines don't take them
Ahh, but they do! They just have to be programmed to do so. Tell the owners of the next place that has a vending machine to have the service guy change it out. Watch this video on the subject: czcams.com/video/EZlmj8a-Z98/video.html
All it takes to use $2 is for the owner to flip a DIP switch.
the more you save the more they print that way you will always be poor
That would be true if the prices on everything raised with the amount off money there printing but for the most part there not.
@@rangernation4538 they kind of are slowly and slowly you just dont realize it. I remember a bag of potato chips were a 1.00. Now its 1.50 for the same thing and they make them for less because of technology replacing workers but now cost more and wages are still the same. Not advocating for wage increase but something is going on🤔
@@elchucofried5683 but there have new potions to raise the minimum income every year here in New Mexico the minimum income is $14 an hour and there trying to raise it right now.
@@rangernation4538 raising minimum wage hurts small businesses
Christmas time i give them to family members....
My mother bought me a partial sheet of $2 bills from the u.s. mint over 20 years ago I still have them put away I believe there's nine bills
Where do you get them?
At the bank. They are regular currency. If the bank doesn't have them, you can ask them to order them; there are plenty in the Federal Reserve waiting for a good home.
