California lowers incentives for rooftop solar panels

  • The state has long led the nation in the adoption of rooftop solar panels, and today more than 1.5 million California homes and other buildings have them. Under a decades-old program, people with solar panels can get paid by their power companies by sharing excess solar energy they don't need, leading some solar homes to pay minimal electric bills.

    Those of us with solar ARE helping to pay for the infrastructure! We pay a monthly fee plus inflated rates for every KW/h that we use above what our system generated. This is nothing but a ploy to keep the power out of the hands of the people and at the top of a souless corporation.

      And don't think California leadership is on our side. They publicly talk the talk, yet from behind closed doors it ends up we always loose.

      u are actually working with conjuction with the Power companies, under NEM 2.0 you are selling the excess solar you dont use back to the grid so the utiliities companies can sell the power back to the people who dont have solar. This has never been about having "power in your hands" unless you had a battery to store your excess energy.

    This is the powerful utility companies winning and proving California democrats are not really about reducing carbon emissions.
    The CPUC could have choosen a "middle ground", somthing like paying solar producers 50% of the retail rate of what goes back into the grid, instead they cut it right to wholesale. Also, their plan encourages lithium battery storage which is a poor use of limited lithium. Lithium is best used in EV's.

    Truly poor people don't pay income taxes and they receive financial support from working people. This is just one more subsidy. Plenty of people who aren't rich have solar panels and plenty more would like them so that same old CA rhetoric doesn't hold water.We have all seen how one party defines "rich". Other states are starved for solar panels so solar providers should simply turn their efforts to where their services are in demand.

    Sounds like the only solution to being gouged.

    There's a reason. California already has so much solar in its energy mix that it has become a problem. Without massive large scale battery storage adding more solar panels to CA is just a waste of everybody's time. It would be insane to continue to subsidize it. In a world where reason matters California needs more base plants. Since coal is out, that leaves NG and nuclear. Solar is problematic in that shoves an abundance of power onto the grid for a very small amount of time. It's intermittent. You can't live on wind and solar alone (until we have large scale battery storage).

    • @mannymm7887
      @mannymm7887 Před 10 měsíci

      Any excess power that is generated during peak times by solar and wind farms is immediately sold off to other utility providers or states. Im near the Palm Springs area and we have absolutely massive wind farms. You see them every time you drive on the 10. Almost all additional energy from those is sold to San Diego and Nevada when the Coachella valley can’t take on any more. These companies are just greedy. Less people using their grid means less required maintenance and more energy to sell to other states during peak hours.

    Solar Panels have never been cost effective its only for people who want to help the environment. The money you save you pay in the cost of the panels.

    • @DSC800
      @DSC800 Před rokem +3

      Nahh, not true. I went solar 6 years ago and it paid for itself in just 5 years when combined with my EV savings. Without the EV it would take 6 years. Now with installation slightly cheaper and kwh rates about 25% higher it would take 8-10 years if you you completely removed the fed subsidy.
