  • This is turning out to be the worst winter ever; flat batteries, frozen locks, iced-up windscreens and glass, then debt and people not turning for car purchases. This video gives an insight to some of the hard times at work, but it gets more joyous towards to the end

    Why do people arrange a viewing and then don’t turn up? It pisses me off, but I have waited in at home. Very frustrating and selfish of those no-show folk.

    Bloody difficult trying to get owt done outdoors in this kind of weather and the inspiration goes with it.
    Stick at it Paul, you had a bit of wedge from the scrap, but proper annoying when someone doesn't turn up to view a car.
    Things will turn around for you hopefully very soon mate.

    The snow up North has begun.
    We’ve been warned that the storm won’t be fun.
    I’ve no forecasting skill;
    My sci-knowledge is nil.
    So my snowfall prediction? A tone ! I' recommend a heated jacket, but it's just another battery to worry about.

    Can a business please gift this man some new car batteries!!! ☺️ the thing that annoys me about my R25 is that there’s no visual warning light for when the fuel level gets really low. You could be happily chugging along, then all of a sudden the fuel gauge is halfway into the red line 😬

    I have some fancy Autoglym car wax, I think it’s made out of bees or something like that and it has a special foam sponge applicator thing. It’s very good, lovely beading and I’ve had it for many many years, it’s like a bottomless coffee at a Travelodge but let’s get to the point. A little smear of this on the door rubbers and my doors don’t seem to freeze shut. Back in the day I had an E30 BMW and I was told I had to put some weight in the boot to stop it flying backwards off the road. I put a bag of cement in it, a strange choice but for some reason there was a bag of cement in the cupboard under the stairs of the flat I was living in. Sadly the boot leaked due to the metal between the bottom of the back window and the bit where the boot hinges connect having evaporated so this bag of cement became heavier and a more permanent fixture. I had another E30 a bit later on and I didn’t bother with the cement on that one and it didn’t fly backwards off the road and I’m still alive. I have to change the headlamp bulb on my current BMW tomorrow. Sounds simple but is going to involve some kneeling on the floor, some circus type contortions, fiddling blind up the wheel arch, dirty hands, swearing and most likely some cuts to my hands and wrists. I have thought about getting some LED bulbs but they are the work of the devil. When I’m president, anyone who makes a commitment to come to your business or home but doesn’t will have to go into the stocks on the village green for 72 hours. There will be no rotten tomatoes, we’re not animals, but you can go and explain how frustrating it is to have someone commit to turn up but then just not for as long as you like, up to 72 hours. Then when 72 hours is up and it’s time to release them I just won’t turn up and block them on MySpace.

    Are you charging Boaty and the "Unnamed Banker" ground rent for storage of their assets? Hopefully you're not footing the bill for the yard from your third of proceeds. Forgive me for being nosey, it's just... well, this is your livelihood and its more of a side hussle for the others: you're the one struggling to cope with the cars on a daily basis and it seems fair that your portion of the sales should be a little higher to cover your time, maintenance and keep you in good faith with the landlord (and wife no doubt).
    Sorry, don't mean this comment to come across as intrusive feel free to delete... it just seems like you do an awful lot of work for not much payoff.

    On all the cars that have fully charged batteries why dont you keep a 10mm spanner on you to remove a battery terminal to keep the charge in them and simply reconnect again when needed simples..............
    This would save you time and serious aggravation

    I think you’d be far better off keeping fuel levels up in all the cars and once started leave them running for at least half an hour. I was told a long time ago that each start of a car takes a journey of one and a half miles in order to replace the charge taken out by turning the engine over in the first place. Which means you need to run them for the equivalent time it would take to do that mileage plus extra for adding extra charge into the battery.

    IN my experience of selling the odd thing here and there, Facebook - albeit it is free to advertise - seems to attract the dregs of society in terms of one word messages, not responding and not turning up. Its just downright bad manners. Personally I'd rather detail a fridge with a toothbrush than be dealing with anybody like that so until we've exchanged two or three polite messages in full sentences, I don't bother!
    The old batteries losing power in cold weather trouble. One possible solution may be to remove the batteries from the cars and bring them inside where it will be at least not frosty. You would also be able to test and charge multiple batteries at once. There would be a bit of extra hassle in removing and replacing batteries but overall they would last longer. While I'm at it making obvious suggestions, how 'bout chucking 'nother piece of carpet or two over the windscreens - you could sing the cheery refrain too! 😁
    That was some mighty quick work on the fridge there! 😀
