Danny Carey is an absolute octopus, Tomas Haake a machinegun regiment with infinite ammo, but Baard Kolstad has to be the most emotive and dynamic drummer I know. Please do his playthrough of The Sky is Red. Also you should probably listen to all the other recommendations you get :D

My favourite song of theirs live if you're keen is definitely "Slave". However, if you really want to know where the band's roots lie, then taking a look at "Contaminate Me" would be the way to go - Einar's voice is otherworldly but when both your sister and your brother in law that you grew up with (who also happens to be one of the most influential black metal pioneers and musicians/composers ever) are insanely talented, I guess that's just what happens.

Leprous' music is just incredible. I am not even sure I could praise these guys genuinely enough that I don't come off as bias because they're just that incredible. Leprous is the one band that caught my attention and never ceases to surprise me. Each album sounds different than their others and they are all made with so much emotion. Einar Solberg is an incredible vocalist with a crazy range and an even crazier level of control. Baard Kolstag, their current drummer, is equally talented. Again, not to sound bias, in my opinion he may very be one of the greatest drummers dead or alive. Insane amounts of precision and so dynamically strong. Leprous is truly one of a kind and they deserve every bit of success they've acquired so far and then some. Really enjoyed your reaction to this!

So if on the album he’s layering his own vocals, they don’t play that track live, both guitarists, the drummer, and the bassist sing the layers. YESSS, Leprous! Love them. Great reaction, too - I've listened to "Below" five zillion times and yet you managed to point out things that I hadn't heard before, so thank you!
They are fabulous live - drummer Baard Kolstad is a machine, Einar's vocals are always on point... just a joy. Like many others here, I recommend "The Sky Is Red" and anything from their Live At Rockefeller Music Hall set.

I know only a few Leprous songs, but they are super interesting and emotional. This one's new to me.

What a great react🙌 Leprous is a world class band, and they have a great future ahead of them. I have seen them live 7 times since 2014, and believe me when I say that this band is special. Go see them if you get a cance. Btw; other bandmembers do the backing vocals live. The drummer Baard Kolstad is one of the best drummers out there today.🥳

@@DillaryHuff This is true, however that was before Sony started blocking videos and handing me a strike haha. I'm pretty cautious about them of late but I would definitely give more Leprous a go if I think it's realistically not going to be blocked.

"I'm too excited. I can't control my face, my hands, everything is just a nightmare right now..." even your eyebrows are also all kinds of confused. I was about to comment on what/who certain part reminds me of, but you already mentioned it at 14:07. Ditto.

Never heard of them before but this was interesting. Will have to look into them some more...
Also please react to Sokoninaru! I suggest starting with Gou Ni Moyu, Tenohira De Odoru, or the new song Lament Moment. I cannot recommend them enough 🖤

Thank you man! I've had the toughest time getting reactors to do this band. Still baffled as to why it's been so difficult! They've got an amazing, and--as you noted--very progressive, sound. Top tier musicians.
I highly suggest "Bonneville" and "Forced Entry"
Looking forward to the next one!

Leprous is sick. The strings add this darkness to their music that I just adore.

I think that Leprous could make a song featuring Billie Eilish and it Would super cool. I know people might think it wouldn’t a good idea because Billie is a mainstream artist, but I think Einar and Billie could compliment each other well.

I'd only ever heard their earlier stuff and seen them live as Ihsahn's touring band, so seeing this shift in sound & direction from their slightly heavier roots was really interesting. Will have to investigate further.
The strings had a very 19th century Nordic classical quartet vibe in terms of the voicings, arrangement and tonal qualities. Wouldn't sound too out of place alongside Grieg and his contemporaries.

Saw these guys live with Haken - what a show! Einar absolutely slayed. Speaking of Haken, it's about time you get to them. There are so many good songs it's hard to recommend a starting point. Maybe Falling Back to Earth?

Amazing, I was just thinking today to try to request you'd do Leprous. Their style and quite unique and the band is amazing. Below is a great song, but IMO their best album is "The Congregation": literally no bad songs. I'd be happy to see you react to any song from that album.

This gem 💎 is from their last album. Over the years they have changed up their style A LOT and have gone from pure prog metal into a proggy jazzy alternative blend like you heard now. I personally love all their different eras and styles so no complaints.
If you want to hear more, theres alleviate and i lose hope that have a similar vibe to this song from their last album , and theres also The Sky is Red, an absolute masterpiece and return to their prog roots that i wholeheartedly recommend. If you chose to do this piece, keep in mind theres a drum cam video and it really is worth doing it over the lyric/audio vid.
If you want to check somw of their older stuff:
Slave, Contaminate Me, Acquired taste, Red, The passing
Are all excellent choices andnmany of then have live videos as well.
Loved the reaction and I'm hyped for more!
