    They play this song live every night this whole month so, yes they can play it live. I have seen them 5 times and everything you hear is real and they play it live without cheating. For reference I am a musician, composer and a sound engineer and they blow my mind every time. Einar's voice is just like that. Like everything you said. No effects or modules. When you listen to him live you will realise it for yourself. Cheers! Do more Leprous, I love them all!

    I have seen Leprous live and they are perfectly in sync, they have more technical songs than this and they nailed everything. It was mesmerising. Particularly the drummer Baard Kolstad.
    Also Einar Solberg's voice is naturally that beautiful.
    Everything written is to serve the songs, not anyone's ego.

    It was the encore at monday's show, and it was a masterpiece. I didn't really appreciate the insistent vocal line starting 4.30 on the record, neither the repetitive final section of the song. In a live setting, it builds up so much extenuating tension... Really, the whole song is a build up of tension for the final release, and hearing it live is an incredible experience.
    Oh, and Baard (the drummer) is unbelievable.

    • @Crabcore1
      @Crabcore1 Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, I'm a huge Leprous fanboy but I wasn't 100% buying that song until I hear it live. I just got melted away by that ending section, that's so crazy.

  • @crowing3886
    @crowing3886 Před 4 lety +40

    Idk. That build up is sublime imo. the choir section really makes it punch. Straight stank face on that groove. Gets stuck in your head later an you have to play it back.
    It's also the last song on the album. So it's kinda like that last epic context of song.

    One of my favorite bands. Einar, their vocalist, has a fantastic voice. And their drummer Baard is one of the most interesting drummers to watch, in my opinion. You should go back and listen to an older song of theirs like “Forced Entry”. They’ve gotten more and more mellow with their latter releases. 😊

      Absolutely agree about Forced Entry-the old good times..as for me it was their best music product as a “passing” as well.

  •  Před 4 lety +12

    "There's something coming and it's coming slow, but it's gonna be devastating." Loved that, that's exactly what I felt when I first heard this. Pitfalls is amazing, such a journey, every single song made me go "wait, what?" but in a good way. Definitely do more Leprous, they are one of a kind. The Congregation (check out The Flood!) is my fave album.
    And another, somewhat unrelated recommendation: Caligula's Horse - Graves. I'm curious what you think about it.

  • @drphdmd7064
    @drphdmd7064 Před 4 lety +6

    As a long time Leprous fan, it's funny to me to hear you say "Norwegian Metal Band", and listen to something off of Pitfalls. If you want more metal-centric stylings, listen to their first three albums (especially the first two). That 11/8 time signature is so captivating in this song, though. It is truly a great place to start.
    The current drummer for this band, Baard Kolstad, is easily one of the most talented in the world. He's won competitions lefts and right and even perfectly (as far as I can tell) performed "The Black Page" by Frank Zappa, a notoriously difficult song for the sake of being difficult and fucking with his (Zappa's) studio musicians. Truly a god on the drums. For the drummers, the black page has nested quadruplets and QUINTUPLETS throughout, and is just a total disaster for anyone not incredibly well versed in advanced drumming techniques.

It's got everything you mentioned in this video: Einar brilliantly executing vibrato, an amazing buildup, and getting to see Baard's drumming at its finest. Baard also did a playthrough video of his drumming on that song and you get to see what an absolutely disgusting drummer he really is. 10/10 if you're a Leprous fan.

The instruments they use are in fact a bit 70-80 like fender basses and strat (ok also a Aristides) The instrument at the end a chello , pass trough a Kemper (for what I could see) , like all guitars at the stage .. Hey, just wanted to give you a little bit of friendly, good-faith feedback:
    Although you made really good points while listening to the song, I actually felt that by focusing so much on the points you were making, you kind of didn't really focus as much on the music, especially in an emotional sense, as it deserves in my opinion.
    It just kind of felt too talked through and I think it disconnected you from the piece, which then resulted (or at least helped) in you actually being bored out by the song in the outro section.
    I believe that a format, where you'd become a more active listener and make more thought-out points by being more connected to the music's message would be beneficial for the artists.
    Second point, I think it would be also great if you'd do more research on the band beforehand. E.g., acknowledging the fact that the entire piece was written in roughly an hour long session by the singer could give some interesting insight and benefit the review value.
    That's it from me, great video anyway. Please take these points as written - in good faith :)

      I'm always open to constructive criticism and look for ways to improve what I do here. The thinking vs feeling thing is something I've agonized over for a while now and I think I'm getting a bit better at balancing it but I don't know that I would want to completely shut off the analytical part of my listening -- it's such a core aspect of my content. However I might be open to doing two separate listens before diving into the analysis portion of the video, one listen for feeling and one for critically listening. As for doing a bit of research, that's something I'm actually working on adapting to my format. Several of what I think are my best analyses stem from songs that I have a wide understanding of and I'm done with leaving that up to chance (being able to absorb enough lyrics on a first listen while deciphering those lyrics AND still picking up the music). Pre-research ensure I at least know what's going on with the song before I've heard it and removes one barrier to facilitating strong analyses.
