It was so awesome to come across this today - thanks so much for this video and for your kind words about the song! I'm the cellist from Leprous btw :)
Leprous live was a revelation. Their drummer is legimately one of the best in the world. They also had a live cellist, or at least did when I saw them with Haken a couple of years ago.
I love this song so much 🥵 The Sky is Red is the obvious “single” off the album and it’s some of the most impressive 11 minutes I’ve heard a band perform before, but this song is soooo damn good man
mixing electronics/synths (let alone a freakin trap beat) with a metal song is so hard to do right, and these guys make it sound organic & effortless...so glad you featured this band, I'll be taking a deep dive for sure
I keep being shocked every time the feel changes... lol. I really like it. I love listening to bands that make me think about their creative process, and their influences. This one was a "wtf did i just hear" for me! Gotta get into more.
I am stoked to finally see Leprous on your channel! Please, do more songs from them! They have so much great stuff, here are a few suggestions: "Below", "From the Flame", "The Sky is Red", "Alleviate", "Illumintate", "The Weight of Disaster". Also, "Slave" (Live At Rockefeller Music Hall) is just phenomenal.
Yes yes yessss. Loving it so much! Caligulas Horse, Sleep Token, and Tesseract are all I'm dying to see left at this point, the rest will just be icing :D
The Sky Is Red from Leprous would blow your mind Other songs: Slave, Third Law, Contaminate Me specifically the live versions from their Live @ Rockefeller Music Hall DVD My personal favorite is called Rewind.
Yes, yes, yes!! I could not agree more!! I am obsessed with Caligula’s Horse right now, and Haken and Leprous have dominated my playlists for years. But I would also like to add Pain of Salvation and Devin Townsend to make that list a top 5 😁.
You’ve got a great listener base if they’ve led to you this gem. Highly recommend “Distant Bells” for another Leprous song with this vibe. I also really want to recommend “Sky Machine” by Karnivool for the same kind of transcendent experience.
I would like to echo the comment sections suggestions of "The Sky is Red" but also put in a suggestion for "Slave" live at Rockefeller Music Hall. This live performance is according to me even better than the album version because it has just as good of a mix as the studio album but, this live performance was an anniversary for the band so they brought on some old members from the band, and when they played "Slave" at this concert they had a past drummer come on and two drums really adds a lot of the ambiance. The song also shows a bit more of the range that Einar (vocals and keyboards) has. Both of these songs also show of their drummer Baard very well and i think his skill is one of the most outstanding things with this band. On a sidenote on compositions with surprises you also did Ne Obliviscaris(Australians) that have a violinist as main part of the band
Slave live is just incredibly intense. The Rockefeller video gave me goosebumps all over. I saw them live last summer, and with covid it was a different type of concert, everyone sitting in assigned seats, so a bit more reserved. But when they played Slave I was of course entranced myself, and at the point where he does the scream, this guy a few rows over can't contain himself, and jumps up and screams with him, before sitting down again. I just thought "awesome dude, you did what everyone here wanted to do themselves."
I condone this message! Maybe add The Flood to the list. But definitely Forced Entry and The Valley.... and The Price and The Sky Is Red haha, it's just all so good and unique.
I started off on your channel because of TOOL. I am so blessed being able to take this journey with you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I love hearing new music. This is not a "reaction" channel. I like to think of it as a "discovery and education" channel. ❤
Rishloo are great, but definitely not in the "no one's ever heard of" category. Now take Evership or something and then we'll talk criminally underlistened :P
Don't know if you'll read this. I hope you will react to a song from Intronaut at some point. Very talented musicians that are still very unrecognized with respect to their talent. Bit of metal, bit of jazz, and definitely experimental. If you do, best starting songs in my opinion would be Fast Worms, Sore Sight for Eyes, and Procurement of the Victuals/Cubensis. Great choices of songs to react to so far. Keep up the great work!
OMG more Leprous please! They're unbelievable. The last three albums they did are among my favorite albums ever. There's a 6-day live-stream going right now where we can see them writing a new song. All the band members know music theory really well, and they really write together, it's beautiful to see.
I'm so glad I discovered Leprous recently, because for one, I am more able than ever, as my musical understanding has grown, to fully appreciate all this magnificent band has to offer; but mainly cause I get to find videos I didn't see from my favorite music analyst and reviewer (Aloha!) and listen along to these masterpieces. What other gems didn't click upon? *excited*
Everyone here requesting The Sky is Red, but i think "Distant Bells" or basically every song on "Pitfalls" would be worth its own discussion. This album is phenomenal
You‘re quickly becoming my favorite person to react to my favorite music. Leprous is awesome to dive in. I’d recommend „The Sky Is Red“ or „Bonneville“ next. I’d also like to recommend Agent Fresco from Iceland, who are good friends with Leprous and are often compared with them. They are on the same level for me, just a tad more accessible. Check out „Dark Water“ or „Howls“. Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing!
i would to see you react to The Dear Hunter, specifically Regress + The Moon/Awake. technically two songs but the transition is seamless and they're both GORGEOUS
The strings on this album were arranged by Chris Baum who plays violin with a great band called Bent Knee. I'd love to see you react to them, they're criminally underrated, quite different from most current prog bands, and their vocalist is jaw-droppingly talented. I think you'd find the song Way Too Long an interesting one to analyse!
Literally just heard this band for the first time. In fact, I was watching a drummer covering The Sky Is Red on CZcams which was fantastic so I thought Geebz must have done these guys and hey presto! I will definitely be tuning into more of their stuff. 👍🏼
So many great Leprous songs! Where to begin? "The Sky is Red" is pretty unique, it's captures the claustrophobic desperation of mental illness so incredibly well.
I’m loving the amount of stoppage. It feels like a good amount. You’re able to share more and it’s awesome to hear someone else’s perspective! Thanks for sharing!
That gorgeous cello you hear is the fantastic Raphael Weinroth-Browne! His Worlds Within album is the best of modern classical prog (if that is a thing). :)
Bruce Willis movie you are refering to is 5th Element. The singer is called Plava Laguna. Awesome soundtrack. Keep on going down the rabbithole with Leprous. I personally LOVE "Slave", "Rewind", "The Flood" and "Contaminate Me". The last one is especially awesome in the live-version with Ihnsahn on-stage :) Keep up the entertaining videos, really enjoying it :)
I just wanted to thank you man. I love this band, the way you approach music has made me listen to these guys and other bands and just enjoyed them for every part without focusing on certain aspects too much. Thanks for boosting my love for music even more. You're a legend!
One of the best things about Leprous in my opinion, is that all of their work is pretty different from one another, yet still maintains their core sound which is always brilliant. If you ever get back to this band, which I highly recommend, based on each of their albums would be Phantom Pain, Forced Entry, Coal, Rewind, and finally Coma. My personal favorites from each of their 5 albums leading up to what you listened here on their 6th album. Keep doing what you're doing dude, it's a fun time watching. If you want another band I would also suggest Ne Obliviscaris - Eyrie, you liked different instruments being a surprise, and there's one in this band.
What a beautiful video and channel. Actual analysis and earnest love for music, not passive ”reaction video”. I appreciate you a lot man. Forced Entry is classic early Leprous. Very reverred in the fandom as a highlight of their discography.
Just discovered your channel and I really enjoy your videos (have just watched the ones about "Toxicity" and "Forty Six & 2"). It's great seeing you not only analyzing the music, but also being emotionally moved by it (I discovered Leprous in 2019 and love most of their stuff, although most of their albums are quite different from each other stylistically).
Awesome react! Leprous are quickly becoming one of my fav bands! They have other amazing songs like acquired taste, the sky is red, mirage, slave or castaway angels (their new single). Thank you so much man keep up those amazing react videos 🤘🏼
Dude, I love your channel. You listen to music in the way very much like I do, except I have no real music knowledge/education. Keep going man! Digging it!
One of my favorite bands! Fell in love with them first time I saw them live. Amazing live show! So many different sounding songs to choose from....heavy to soft and everything in between
I enjoy your reaction videos, and was thrilled to see you were doing Leprous. A lot of good new suggestions for another Leprous song, but let's not forget Acquired Taste... the live at Rockefeller version is mwah! Slave was the first Leprous song i heard, also completely awesome live.
Amazing as ever! Just had a crash course through most of your videos!! Surprised that as such a Tool fan you've yet to touch on "Right In Two" possibly my favourite track. Keep up the awesome reviews dude!
"Audace - Retour" is one of my absolute favorite songs, it'd be amazing to see you "de-compose" it! Somehow a song that really puts a smile on my face. Thanks for all the content man!
Yes, finally Leprous! Glad you enjoyed it! Their music has evolved from their earlier albums having a much heavier and raw soundl to the more melody based sound on this song from their most recent album. Would love if you check out Forced Entry, The Valley or The Weight of Disaster next time
Expanding my musical knowledge and experience with Geebz. My grandmother immigrated from Sweden, so it's almost like connecting with my heritage on this one. Really enjoyed it!
I love your use of theater of the mind while analyzing and explaining stuff, I've found that for people who're learning music it's one of the most helpful ways to make them understand the functionality of the music itself, and how the way the music is made and arranged can carry so much emotional weight For people who are curious about this and want a more scientific approach, read about the harmonic (or overtone) series and how the ear reacts to certain frequencies Great content.
I've been following and loving how you're growing your channel. I would also love to see you breakdown something a little different (from a songwriting and arrangement pov) than you've done with something from Mechina. "Cryoshock" or "Realm Breaker" would be amazing. Thanks for all that you do!
Greetings from Norway here!🇳🇴 So glad to see this react! Leprous is an AMAZING band, and there is a huge rabbithole for you to dive into. I have seen them live seven times, and they leave me in awe every time! Check out Slave live from Rockefeller🥳 Anyway; this was a joy to watch!
I've been following your channel, and wondered when I would see Leprous on here. Amazing band. Even better live. Any track off of Coal would be a great reaction.
Eeyy How'z it? Man, super pumped you finally got to Leprous. Amazing band. Now, I do enjoy basically every song on this album (Pitfalls), but you've got a few more Leprous songs that you certainly need to check out, would love to hear your thoughts on.... Slave, The Sky is Red, Distant Bells, Captive, Third Law, Castaway Angels. This band is really worth listening to more. Really enjoying you taking us through this journey. I am not musically trained at all, but listen to music everyday almost all day, and it's been really fun learning and hearing you enlighten us. Keep it up.
Love this band. Saw them twice this year. Love how they don't go into the chorus the same way twice. Einars voice is amazing. All the musicians are great but Baards drumming shines!
Just so glad I found another reviewer of prog rock/metal! If you are open to foreign bands, please listen and/or react to the song The Mist of Capricorn, by the Indian band Agam. They combine Indian classical with metal, and this song is just electric. The lead singer's range and modular control just blew me away! Thanks for your analysis and looking forward to more of your notes and reactions!
I recommend the Live at Rockefeller Version of Slave by Leprous. They have their old and their new drummer crushing it together on that absolutely haunting track. Truly one of my favorite live performances of a prog band ever.
That whole album is a masterpiece and one of my favorite albums in recent years. I highly recommend giving it a full listen. Every one of their albums is different too. Bilateral from 2012 shows some emergence of this sound they have now but mixed with some weird but cool progy heavier stuff. They are one of those bands where theres almost an album for every mood
Great reaction! I never paid much attention to their new album, but your enthusiasm about this song really rubbed off on me! Check out their song Bonneville as well, it's in the same vein as this song, very ethereal but with a great build and explosive finish (hopefully not giving too much away). Oh and I can't wait for your next Opeth reaction, somewhere this week right? Thanks for your videos and greetings from the Netherlands! Edit: the "-ous" in the name Leprous is pronounced like in "jealous". As in "suffering from leprosy".
Leprous is a great one. First saw them live with Agent Fresco, and man what an amazing evening that was. The vocalist has such a unique voice... their older albums are a lot more energetic btw., their songwriting mellowed out quite a bit. Just recently discovered your channel btw - love your angle. Properly deconstructing and analyzing without losing any of the magic, and with genuine excitement. Love the more obscure stuff especially, your TFN and Igorrr reactions were great to see :'D I've yet to see some Techdeath and THALL here, so I'll drop in some of my absolute favourite bands of each: Immanifest - Ultraterrestrial Creation Inferi - Onslaught of the Covenant First Fragment - Gula Humanity's Last Breath - Dehumanize Vildhjarta - Traces Fractalize - Void All of these are incredibly different from the last and have their own unique flavour. The first three will be interesting because of the high level of technicality and incorporation of classical music of various eras; the last three are a more modern take in both song writing and production and prioritize atmosphere and mood. I'm sure you'll have a blast! Looking forward to more content from you!
PERIPHERY. more please!!!! Satellites, The Bad Thing, Reptile, Crush, Stranger Things.... Too many great songs with great arrangements. Misha has really begun dialing in with his orchestra work...
Suggestion for the countdown Geebz (that I'm thoroughly enjoying), you need to revisit more Leprous, not least because they are a great band but they also just dropped a new record! I'd suggest "Castaway Angels" or 'Nighttime Disguise" from that record, or "The Sky Is Red", "Distant Bells", or "Mirage" from earlier records. You should be able to find videos for all of those pretty easily, I think they're all on their YT channel! And congrats on the one year anniversary, I been here since the first vid, love your channel!
It was so awesome to come across this today - thanks so much for this video and for your kind words about the song! I'm the cellist from Leprous btw :)

Leprous just posted this reaction on their insta page.
Another vote for 'The Sky Is Red' here. Just an amazing song that you've got to hear! Especially the live video they released.
drum playrthrought is better
This!!! And I would also say The Flood, such a unique song. And The Valley is one of their best as well, it has everything.
@@gabrieljimenez5313 They way he follows the middle vocal part that sounds 'out' is beautiful. ✌🏻

The sky is red by Leprous really shows their skill and diversity with their songs, I can't recommend this song enough.
Forced Entry too
@@MJ-vd8bj +1 Forced Entry
+1 on both The sky is red and forced entry :)
Yup. +1 'sky is red.' So dynamic and... crunchy?
The live version on CZcams is killer!
By reading the comments it looks like the prog community has fallen in love with your channel geebez
WE HAVE
Ahah yep we have😂
I’ve noticed the same thing. As a massive prog fan myself, I know I certainly have.
I just found his channel and am instantly in love LMAO
Well yes, but I came here via JustJP
Leprous live was a revelation. Their drummer is legimately one of the best in the world. They also had a live cellist, or at least did when I saw them with Haken a couple of years ago.
With Haken🤯 Had to be the best concert ever
That was a great concert. I did the meet and greet also. Cello player is now part of the band. It adds so much.
Baard did a Google Talk lol
@@Kelly.sapphire Didn't he refuse?

A Leprous song! Finally woohoo

@@PhoenixDecim A masterpiece indeed
If you like this one of theirs, youll love Bonneville, Distant Bells, and The Sky is Red!
Bonneville is amazing
Distant bells is freaking breath taking
Distant Bells doesn't get enough credit, it's on par with The Sky is Red in terms of vocal performance to me, simply beautiful
Bonneville! Yes!
Yes! Distant bells!
I love this song so much 🥵 The Sky is Red is the obvious “single” off the album and it’s some of the most impressive 11 minutes I’ve heard a band perform before, but this song is soooo damn good man
11 minutes long and almost entirely in 11/4 time as well. Genius.
Only found them in the past year but the sky is red was the first track I saw. Amazing! Bar on the drums, oaft!
If he listens, he should watch the drum playthrough
zamzamzam zam zam....oh dude what a song
I absolutely love At the Bottom! Definitely one of my favourites from them.
The first time I heard Einar's voice I felt the same goosebumps that I felt when I heard Jeff Buckley for the first time. Goddamn what a voice.
Leprous is incredible! cant wait for this, PLEASE check out The Sky is Red from the same album. just INSANE
Best to do the drum playthrough by Baard Kolstad!
mixing electronics/synths (let alone a freakin trap beat) with a metal song is so hard to do right, and these guys make it sound organic & effortless...so glad you featured this band, I'll be taking a deep dive for sure
I'm partial to a song of theirs, that doesn't seem to ever get requested, called Mirage.
Maybe Pelican will make an appearance one day too. 😃
That song is great. So underrated
Mirage is one of my favorites as well.👍
Ha, I see you are a man of culture as well...

Leprous is a band I've never really listened to but have had people suggest them to me. They sound great, thanks for the proper into to them.
I ADORE this Song! ❤
A perfect circle - The noose 🤙🏻
Please do more of them. They are AMAZING!
I love your use of theater of the mind while analyzing and explaining stuff, I've found that for people who're learning music it's one of the most helpful ways to make them understand the functionality of the music itself, and how the way the music is made and arranged can carry so much emotional weight
For people who are curious about this and want a more scientific approach, read about the harmonic (or overtone) series and how the ear reacts to certain frequencies
Great content.
I’m so glad you enjoy leprous can’t wait to see more reactions!
More Leprous songs, once you learn more for them it will be another tool thing for you. From any album.
An amazing Leperous song is Contaminate Me. I just discovered leperous a few weeks ago and the live at Rockefeller completly sold me.
Keep it up.
one of the best "reaction" videos, I've listened to. tons of interesting and valuable info here.
Awesome band, they are very unique.
Really loved your comments and reaction!
The electronic pads percussion really reminds me of In The Air Tonight.
Love the more obscure stuff especially, your TFN and Igorrr reactions were great to see :'D
I've yet to see some Techdeath and THALL here, so I'll drop in some of my absolute favourite bands of each:
Immanifest - Ultraterrestrial Creation
Inferi - Onslaught of the Covenant
First Fragment - Gula
Humanity's Last Breath - Dehumanize
Vildhjarta - Traces
Fractalize - Void
All of these are incredibly different from the last and have their own unique flavour. The first three will be interesting because of the high level of technicality and incorporation of classical music of various eras;
the last three are a more modern take in both song writing and production and prioritize atmosphere and mood.
Never heard. This was great! Will have to give their albums a spin now. Thanks for sharing!
I've only really listened to Slave but holy crap I'm glad the fans recommended this song instead!
Pitfalls is a true masterpiece, can listen to it start to finish and never get bored.
