  • In today's video, I pot up the largest cuttings I have ever experienced. Totem Cactus or Pachycereus schottii monstrosus is an amazing plant to grow! It is smooth skinned with weird lumps and can grow up to 10 - 12 feet tall (3 meters)

    I wish I could add a photo of my new cuttings! I'm in PHX and I transplanted a big totem cacti plant into many cuttings and it's all pretty much a big experiment! I have a few successful transplants from a few summers ago so I have high hopes! This is such a fun plant, and their growth is very satisfying 😃.

    This was fun! Have you ever planted a cutting this large?

      Thanks so much for your video. I have around twenty giant cactus cuttings and was having a hard time finding info on replanting a cutting this large !

    Super fun video!
    Does the bottom have to be hard/catalyst up to be potted?
    Mine is freshly cut & repotted it right away, it’s super raw/fresh & moist
    Wondering if I should have let it dry out before potting it..

      Definitely let it callus up and harden over before planting it. Most other plants like being potted upright after being cut to form roots, not this plant though. That wet fleshy wound may keep rotting back if not allowed to callus over first. Cheers and thanks!

    Any updates? How long did it take to root?
    I have a large collection of them. I was told dont water them for several months after planting because it will cause roting at the base which ive seen.

      I will need to make a follow up video. Plants are thriving and have not rotted out. Took a couple months to fully root out. They definitely appreciate well draining soil. I did water them after planting but only to keep soil lightly moist. Cheers!

    Can it be placed in direct sun right after potting the cutting??

    • @fieldtrippin1
      @fieldtrippin1  Před rokem +1

      I would give the cutting partial sun/shade for the first few months because it is very hot where I live. A little direct sunshine early in the morning is fine. Once rooted this plant is good to go in direct sun.

      Hard to say. You may need to shop around, they can be hard to find. Trying to grow as many as I can.

      Old West Cactus Farm in Arizona has ALOT of them at great prices. I posted photos on google when I purchased mine. I have a large collection. Many cactus nursuries in Ca also have them.

    • @fieldtrippin1
      @fieldtrippin1  Před 3 lety +2

      Perhaps. I'm getting as many rooted as I can. Might take a bit of time. Such a cool plant, would love to see more folks growing its offspring.
