- Actors Jesse Eisenberg ('The Social Network'), James Franco ('127 Hours'), Mark Ruffalo ('The Kids Are All Right'), Colin Firth ('The King's Speech'), Ryan Gosling ('Blue Valentine'), and Robert Duvall ('Get Low') sit down for an hour-long roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter.

one of the best actors in this video is the rectangular table they're sitting at. i really believe that he's a roundtable, what a performance
Omar Little 👏👏👏👏
🤣 original comment about NOT a roundtable
Omg i just pissed myself
funny stuff
Ryan Gosling and Robert Duvall look like a before and after photo
Ethan Megenis-Clarke hahaha omg true 😂
Both are masters of subtle acting.
this comment made the video for me
@@DonVal86 True. Blade Runner 2049 is one of my favorite films of all time.
@@Zaz5y I adore that movie.
I feel like I'm watching 12 Angry Men.
🤣👏
😅😅😅😅😅😅
I can't stop laughing at James Franco looking at Jesse that way lmfao I'd be uncomfortable and intimidated as heck.
YES 😂😂 I know Jesse was uncomfortable
i dont think he means it in an intimidating way. if im honest i think james franco is fascinated with jesse's personality as james can relate alot to him, i dunno
Both of them don't belong at this table. Robert Duvall ffs.
kit clarke also I think he was showing empathy (in addition to genuinely listening to what he was saying) since it was almost like Jesse barely got a word in from the beginning
jesse eisenberg and james franco together is so insanely awkward and weird but also beautiful
Esfp and intp be like
I don't get it!
This was somehow a mad clash of personalities.
*Robert Duvall* is the no nonsense old man.
*Colin Firth* is the formal Englishman.
*Mark Ruffalo* is the shy introvert.
*James Franco* is the pretentious weirdo.
*Ryan Gosling* is the mysterious handsome guy.
*Jesse Eisenberg* is the stuttering, OCD dork.
So on point haha
@@chewbokkiee9507 This comment became funnier the longer I read it. 🤣🤣🤣
It's like someone set up these meetings just to get a kick out of differing perspectives while we as the audience sit in confusion wondering why we can't sit with these people.
This whole video is a great big lie.
The table is not round at all...
I took that sentence seriously and then read the second. That's just silly lmao
+thedearnoman it's called "actors roundtable" but the table isn't round, it's rectangular
Fuck off, kiddo...get some grammar lessons from mama...
early days lol
What the hell😂
Franco's just drinking coke and everyone else has water.
I wonder what that means? ;)
+Boswellboxer Illuminati.
To help him stay awake
Jesse is as nervous in real life as most of his characters are.
this was such an awkward roundtable, the only guy who was relaxed was mark ruffalo
Fr
I can relate to Jesse so much. When I'm high in a large group I get so fidgety from anxiety. You can tell he's overthinking his movements every now and then in his head. At least I can.
I do the same thing. I applaud him for continuing to talk. I would have shut down after a couple sentences. I wouldn't be able to look at anyone, just star are the table and vary nervous
If this helps and of course you might have searched about your personality, learn about carl jung Analytical psychology and further development on his theories. If I caused any disturbance then I would like to say sorry.
Yeah biaaatch
Stop smoking before you ruin your mental health - I speak from experience. You are creating neaural path ways - and eventually they will stick especially if you under 25. You will end up shy and introverted for life. I however as an adult see him as behaving humbly.
I think so as well. & you're Gorgeous, Adriana. Yeah...I had ta go there. 😏
Lol everyone's looking at Jessie like damn bro chill out. This guy need to calm down. James Franco gives him the the WTF stare
If he did one of those now,he'd be a lot more comfortable but at that time he was still pretty new to being in that circle...
Why does everyone look so uncomfortable in all of these. Do they kidnap them in the middle of the night then put a camera on them?
I think anything involving Jesse Eisenbergh is kind of awkward because Jesse is awkward in a cute way. :) Though he didn't speak that much so I don't know why it's awkward rest of the time.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mismatched personalities
Ryan Gosling should be incredibly proud of Lars. I think that was one of the best performances Ive ever seen. It's brilliant and misunderstood.
James Franco and Ryan Gosling are both the hot girls who hate each other, but who secretly want to be best friends.
I never thought that they hated each other i seen few or none of their work
This is great because there's a whole backstory undercurrent here, because of 127 Hours. Franco read for the role first, then Danny Boyle chose Gosling for it, then Gosling had to drop out for other reasons, and Danny called Franco again and signed him up for it.
When Ryan made a joke about his work in “Young Hercules” everyone laughed except for James Franco who seemed to be unamused.
Just scrolling down here.... Looks like we've got some acting experts as well as behavioral psychologists breaking down each individual's current mood and personality based on people's mannerisms that seem to annoy them. ^^
Did anyone notice at 3:00 when James was reading his coke can for like 1 minute 😂
That will be me
He wasn't even looking at the can
The one on one conversation that evolves between Robert Duvall and Ryan Gosling is incredible.
It's almost shocking at times how the interviewer is not "reading" the actors. At times they are blatantly resistant to what he's asking, or even the idea of it, or they're uncomfortable, yet he just keeps pursuing that line.
All of these things seem cold and uncomfortable.
@@adonbavure1454 agree
I love this. I love all their different tics and gestures and mannerisms. James Franco is so physical when he's talking - it's fascinating to watch.
Ryan Gosling and James Franco at the same table!!
Kiran Mahato I got really excited.
What about it?
Too bad they seem to not like each other. The way they look at each other. 👀
i cant help but stare at james staring at jesse lmao
This is fucking hysterical, it's like a mafia meeting or something
Ryan's stutter is precious. Respect that he overcomes that for each role.
I never noticed it, he seems to be very thoughtful with his answers.
I would hardly call that a stutter
Ryan Gosling is literally my favorite actor. He seems like he always plays himself on screen. Look at Blue Valentine, Drive, TPBTP, Half Nelson. he always like taking roles he knows he'll nail. He is very soft spoken and seem like a genuinely good guy.
This is the most brutally honest roundtable I've ever seen.
The look of disbelief in Franco's eyes when Jesse starts bumbling over himself trying to answer a simple question. Its like he's thinking "how the fuck is this kid sitting next to me?"
that's not a look of disbelief, that look says "can they tell I'm still high?
+popeye697 😂😂😂
+popeye697 funny thing is he doesnt do drugs in real life
I just gained more respect for Mark Ruffalo
Why? :P
Tanvi Jain 8:56-13:56
Jesse is the baby of this group.
For some reason, this is the roundtable I keep coming back to. So much awkwardness,so fun to watch
What a lovely round of actors. It's nice seeing them all sitting side by side.
the best thing of this interview is James Franco's crazy looks
I'm sorry but this is one of the reasons Ryan Gosling is one if not the best actor of our generation! When asked the question "what makes a good/ great actor?" 14:00-14:06 everyone looks at him and points! A room full of great actors and they all look to him!
Was that to Robert Duvall tho
Franco just staring at his can of coke for 2 min straight, making a couple appalled faces as he's reading the ingredients. LMAO wtf
Mark Ruffalo is so sweet and comfortable ❤️
Poor Jesse...
So fucking awkward.
+Those Things Why poor?
Jessys 5 yrs old
I would love to see all these actors talking to each other freely. ( like in the talking funny HBO special).
I agree with Ryan, people sometimes bash superhero movies saying that their just big budget CGI fests and everything is done for you but I believe that it is harder to act like fictional things are happening rather than to act in a real world situation, If you look at behind the scenes videos of these superhero movies you'll see actors acting opposite tennis balls which is I think a lot harder than acting opposite a human.
It's not easy acting green screen.
It's not as rewarding as an actor. That's a different kind of acting, and lesser in my opinion. It's not necessarily harder but it's more awkward and not natural.
This might sound crazy but it really bothers me that the table isn't round and I keep getting this weird sideway angles from the actors plus the audio isn't normalized.
Madame Evie I wanted James Franco to speak more about playing James Dean
That stare James does at 38.00 to the interviewer lol. I enjoyed watching it.
they're all testing out who's the Alpha in the room...
I just think it's amazing seeing this many amazing actors together
When Duvall talks around 15/16 minutes, how many people find themselves watching Ryan Gosling's reaction and expression toward him? Interesting that the amount of expression in his face (you wonder what he's thinking) shows he has that natural potential to be a screen actor.
I feel like jesse would be a fast rapper
Yiyo Tellez lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What
this looks like a school project lol
this is the funniest comment so far, lol😂😂😂
😂
I totally relate to Jesse's anxiety. I do the exact same thing when I have to talk to a group. Especially when a lot of people are tossing questions at you left and right. I applaud him for continuing to answer them. I would have been so anxious and nervous I would have shut down in fear. Or I would have answered in short one or two quick sentences
I would also say a lot of 'umms' and 'uhhs'
I still want to know how he land that Lex Luthor role in BvS! The man fucking sucks!
James franco looks really tired hahahahhahh....even when he speaks..he's trying so hard not to fall asleep
lol, i believe he's just always high. i'm pretty sure lol.
Ryan looks so intrigued by Robert, it makes me very curious to what the hell he is thinking.
38:27 The way James franco keeps looking at Jesse is creepy as fuck
that's what's making Eisenberg awkward....I think Franco was doing it on purpose...that's why he wouldn't look at him while he was talking, lol.
SeventhkeyOmega No, Jesse Eisenberg just regularly sounds like that/awkward, it's just the way he talks.James Franco... whilst looking creepy is just trying to listen to him I think.
*****
Yeah he's awkward......but I tell you Eisenberg can feel Franco doing that...I don't know leeming it looks like Franco wants to let his little inner James Dean out here.
+sebastian galoria What you can't see, is that James Franco's hand is on Jessie's leg.
+SeventhkeyOmega I think they're both just intimidated by Ryan Gosling. If you follow James on IG you'll know that he adores him.
Gorgeous actors! All my favourites!
42:20 Robert Duvall is like "wtf 70 takes, your a weird dude Jesse" lmao
Very different personality. Duvall has always come off as confident and is from a different generation.
Jesse Eisenberg said he make 50 takes , the one who made over 70 takes on hes movies was Stanley Kubrick.
Wow these roundtable of actors is so engaging.it teaches you a lot about many things in life.
Wow. Some amazing actors there! Also James Franco.
Yeah, he just comes off as pretentious.I understand he's an artist and all that but come on...
Bruno Kolic I don't care if he is an "artist", I hope he sells paintings (or whatever) for millions. Good for him. He is a shitty actor. When he isn't looking like he is about to fall asleep, he looks vaguely nonplussed or irritated...perhaps because he hasn't smoked a bowl in the last 20 minutes.
James Franco is a pretty sensitive actor, he's not bad.
he was great in 127 hours
kev3d I think he was pretty solid in the james dean movie, pineapple express and 127 hours
Gotta love Robert Duvall.
Everything he says, it just seems so cool.
I just love everything about this SO much!
And what a talent he is, swept me of my feet completely in TSN! Incredible acting. Incredible cast and directing also, great story
Props to the Hollywood reporter for these segments. Absolutely love them.
Robert Duvall is one of the greatest actors who ever lived.
I love the direction of many many takes. It allows the actor to try different things and it takes a while to get in the groove of the scene. It's very freeing and its like a rehearsal.
I could listen to jesse all day and never get tired of listening to him. he gives great insight.
James Franco is like: "Is this guy referring to moi?" Oh,, the intensity.
When?
Holy shizer, this is an all star cast.
James, why are you yelling?
15:25 I love Mark Ruffalo's response to Robert Duvall saying "Girls wanna cry"
2010 was a phenomenal year for cinema.
This one felt like realest interview ever
spoiler... the tables not round :D
This is possibly my favorite interview
This interview has the energy of an AA meeting
Hahaha
Duvall owned that room. Watching these young up-and-comers perched next to the guy who acted alongside Gregory Peck, Pacino, Brando, Tommy Lee Jones, and DeNiro in the movies that made them icons is the ultimate in juxtaposing wisdom vs. youth (Firth being the exception, being that he's been around for years). The moment he starts name-dropping, the rest of the room became mere conversational shadow. It's cool seeing the young guys like Gosling/Franco/Eisenberg take in what Duvall is saying. Duvall's worked with nearly everyone in the last three generations of film. Just an incredible array of filmography.
Don’t forget the great Richard Harris.
Ryan and James seems to be uneasy with each other
Why?
@@aslan9334 Dude, I said this 6 years ago. I have no idea why 😂
@@kayg7438 whenever I wanna respond to a comment I always check how long it was posted, if it's over 2 years I'm like "this person might not even be on CZcams anymore" lol
My guess is they may have competed with each other for roles over the years.
Jealousy
I wish James Franco would look at me the way James Franco looks at Jessie Eisenberg.
There's something to be said about wisdom and experience, Duvall has no filter, just his truth.
When Mark said "Oh God I hope he is coming here to fire me" I literally laughed so loud :D
Does anyone else think Franco was kind of trying to impress when he talked about his 127 and James Dean and Milk etc parts, the way he talked looked like he was trying to impress the older actors behind the table.
+MS he talks about those movies in every single interview he does. not just this one.
He's been doing this for twenty years. Don't think he cares all that much about impressing older actors anymore.
kinda but also he was making a good point.
Ryan Gosling and Robert Duvall are probably my two favorite actors ever. Can’t believe I haven’t seen this before
I completely forgot that Ryan was originally cast in Lovely Bones
At 44:45 the interviewer asks Ryan Gosling a question but James Franco inexplicably answers it himself and either no one notices or they're all too scared to question him since he spent most of the last ten minutes looking like he wanted to eat Jesse Eisenberg's head.
When this was first posted, I remember reading a comment like “I thought James Franco died at 21:00” and I couldn’t stop laughing. Nearly a decade later, this pops up in my recommended and I had to rewatch just for that moment. If anyone finds the original commenter, thank them for me!
LMAOOOO
This is killing me so bad 😭
"I've been to...um...Film School."
James Franco is trying so hard not to.fall sleep
Ryan Gosling looks like he's still in character for "Drive".
nice . they all are sincer iz cool . thanks for sharing " Backstage"!
It is a privilege to be able to witness how actors gain the wisdom of their conviction or lose the reason they hold in belief, and rare treat to see how some of them mature and become themselves regardless between now and when.
Wow this is intensely awkward
Just pretend they're all high but they think they're the only ones
I could listen and watch Jesse speak for hours on end, and I would not get bored.
Jesse: great answers!! Thank you for giving us so much insight into your characters
These guys here .. this cast would make a great mafia movie.
🤔🤔🤔 Damn you right. Every last one of them would kill their roles
James seemed annoyed with Gosling! LMAO
When?🤷♀️
They both read for 127 Hours. Gosling was chosen over him, but had to drop out, so Franco got the call after Gosling and ends up with an Oscar nomination out of it. They didn't address it directly, which could have been interesting, but it's the subtext there, and probably the reason Franco was so emphatic when saying "I didn't fight for the role" lol.
@@jeffreyroedel9804ahh i had no idea
I think they're all, really amazing actors.
Love how, for the first question, Mark subtle smiles as he predicts the question that should have been put to him so many times by so many reporters.
James franco is hilarious
Franco's so high 😂
Lol xd
+MaxBrilhart boyfriend* XD
You know what else gives that impression? His heavy hands on the table. When his gestures land on the table they're loud and give a, "Whatever, who needs this scene" vibe.
i love this video
these people look much more real than ever
I love watching Franco stare at Eisenberg like, dude.....re-fuckin-lax.
So Jesse Eisenberg is so in reality like that :)
I love how real and genuine he is. Love love him. I wish we could have heard more from him and James Franco.
I love how they all break out in smiles when the interviewer asks about disagreeing with the director.
I agree, Ryan Gosling is an amazing actor. I personally believe that Ryan Gosling's character in Drive is one of the most terrifying characters in cinema since Javier Bardem's character in No Country For Old Men.
