  • Dale is back to the track with his 2021 MT-09 * Rip Jr * testing the bike with the new Holeshot / Moore Mafia ECU Flash.
    Fine tuning and calming the little beast down will be the next step.
    The bike is all stock with the recently installed Black Widow / Holeshot Header system, and is fully unrestricted.
    New videos to come soon,
    Back in the dyno room with fine tuning.

    You can tell that you have been racing bikes a while and can ride better than the average person on the track. I took my MT09 2021 to the dragstrip and it was 1/8th mile that day. It my first time racing a bike ever, I've drag raced cars since 96. So it was a challenge to get it off the line, it wheelied into 3rd gear so I tried rain mode and all settings pretty much in limp mode. Went a 7.50@98 then as I got more confident on it got it to 7.32@101 but I only had 3 passes. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward for next year racing it more. I'm in way better air than you are. I enjoy your videos and thanks for sharing 👍

    I'm even more amazed what a little 3 cylinder 900cc-ish bike can do with only an exhaust system and tune.
    Not the old carburetor days for sure! Good Luck!

      Power to weight ratio with the new MT-09 is just fantastic fun Mario. The price is also a winner ! DW

    Hey Guys, stayed tuned for Ratzuki test day 2 Last Sunday. I had the camera on the tail section, and on the last pass it hauled ass out the back door. Cheers Dale

    Great videos as always Dale. So sorry to hear about Zorro. 😿 These 'Little Souls" get inside of us and become huge parts of our lives. Since you introduced us to Max a few years ago I have become a full on Cat Daddy myself with 4 cats to go with my 2 dogs. Hope Max is doing well along with your others. Keep making the videos my Friend! 😀

      Thanks very about Zorro Chris, 4 cats is allot of food and scooping ... Ha. I talk to Zorro Boy every night, and most likely will from this day forward. We have Grey and Max. Max is a beast now, thick and heavy like a line backer ... LOL. Once I can get moved to our new place I may get another dog this time around. Take care, Dale !

    👍👍👍 These short wheelbase with high center of mass "funbikes" are not the easiest to handle at the strip. But a pro like Dale does it! (I feel a little better now struggling with my Z H2 in the first two gears. Only "manageable" in TC=2 for me at least).

      Ha Ha Thanks ...... To be honest TL I pretty much knew going in it may be impossible to ride. I think my idea of Mode 2 with a toned back down 1st and 2nd may be perfecto. I want to ride your Z H2 .... LOL Cheers Dale

    Some nice runs. Just got to tame the launch. Would love to see what swingarm extensions would do. Good luck Dale. Sorry about Zorro.

    I've been messing with a 14 fz09 for a few years ,stock length the best I got was 10.4 ,

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  Před rokem

      Id like t see that with my own eyes. There is no way to go 10.40 with this one without more wheel base. I can see mid 10s maybe with extensions but it will need to run 129 to 130. I'm also 180 lbs in gear now. DW

      @@DaleWalkerHoleshot I'm cw09 on the fz09 forum ,you can check it out in the quarter mile thread ,it will easily get in the 9s with extensions ,I've been 9.55 on motor with swingarm ,there's a bunch of fast ones in Puerto Rico and around Orlando

    How short of swingarm extensions would make a difference?

      Hi Jim, you need at least 4 " and that may not be enough IMO. I'm looking at buying a nice set that are 4 to 9 inch over. I think it would be fun to see just how quick I can go on Rip Jr with these and lower gearing. DW

    This chassis is much improved over the last-gen. But, it's still a sit-up tall chassis that isn't really very optimal for forward-drive, dragging. Probably sucking that front suspension down with straps would make a very big difference in driving off the line.
    You might run a taller sprocket ratio to extend lower gears and reduce some torque at the wheel.
    Stock rear shock on the non-SP model is much improved over the last-gen, but it's still mostly garbage. Something you can control shock length, compression damping, rebound damping would make a big difference.

      Just a little friendly back ground info. Been doing this pretty much my entire life LA, setting over 50 national records on production bikes back in the day. First gear is way to tall as is. I have the front end strapped down now. The rear shock for *entry level * is far from garbage on the street at a good pace, unless your over 190 lbs. Of course you don't have the adjustment's, but the valving is good. I have softened up for the strip to let it squat. You could put the best shock made on this bike and I would still not keep the front end down. The bike needs more wheel base, and possible some some weight added up front. If and when I play with that, then we will see how the stock gearing works out as for as the 60 foot times. I may even try slightly lower gearing one day to find out, and also use 6th gear. Cheers Dale

      @@DaleWalkerHoleshot Thanks for the explanation. I own the '18 version of the bike and I am just over 190 lb. I've been on a demo ride to test the standard and SP model on the new bike, the differences are immediately apparent. It's still a relatively short wheelbase bike, which makes it fun and flickable for its intended use. I did find the SP model to be very good, but still not the sort of damping quality that I've personally felt sampling stuff from Ducati and KTM and other brands, running Marzocchi or Sachs or higher spec Ohlins with both damping circuits, with supple control of road roughness and small hits, but still firm enough to be fast and confident without being fatiguing.
      One of the problems with my '18 is the rear geometry immediately goes pro-squat when you crank the throttle, pushing the front wide out of a turn, lifting the front wheel, shifting most of the weight to the back wheel (it's already rear biased sitting still).
      From my understanding, Japan doesn't have direct control of how their suspension turns out, as they contract other corporations to build forks and shocks to their specifications. The results is they often miss the mark. Seems Euro brands do this much better on average.

    Does the mt09 feel faster than the z900?

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  Před rokem +1

      You know I think they are pretty equal, but you ride the bikes and the power is applied is totally diffident HD. I wish awhile back I would have taken both bikes to the track at the same time just to make 4 or 5 passed on both. But that didn't happen, and Mr. Green is now sold. The new MT-09 is more nimble on a twisty road and suspension a bit better. Z900 RS is right on it heals though. Cheers Dale
