So, I made my own raised bed myself........I have MS and moved to a smaller apartment/empty nester now - but I wanted to continue gardening, Mine are 4 foot tall - and I used wood as well. I started off with 4 x 4s - attached cedar fencing as the frame. and attached cedar interlocking decking boards for the sides......I filled the bottom using jars, turned upside down, and plastic juice/milk jugs - then I placed landscape fabric inside stapled it all around the top - I had added a large plastic container to the base before loading it with the filler items - then placed some strips of cotton from the base long enough to the top - making sure all the fabric ends were down into that large container - then I used pool noodles - I cut 3 to reach inside that base container up to the top of the 4 foot tall box........loaded it with dirt keeping the pool noodles upright - and I water down through those pool noodles to fill up the base container - and have in essence created a water wicking process.... I added some coconut shell mulch to help keep the moisture in - loaded more dirt ---- and grow vegetables there - and in the winter - I dig a deep trench in there..........cover it with an old window that covers the entire top of this bed........and dump my compost in that trench all winter long.......pour milk into there as it goes past due dates.........and in the spring, will load it with more dirt.....move it to other areas - or let it just decompose for a while - I have been doing this for 4 years now..... so its a raised bed and a green backyard compost system really.........so, now let me share what I am doing this spring about that rose trellis k..............

Hi Firefly. WOW! Impressive design, I really like the water wicking addition to the container and on top of that a winter composter!! Brilliant. Well thought out and designed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, value added for sure. Keep them coming :)
