    Yes, Michael was the star period. But his brother's were and still are stars in there own right. When today's hard core MJ fans
    say negative things about his brothers, I invite them to check out all the historical video. They all had talent.

    • @stanleytryhard1825
      @stanleytryhard1825 Před 5 lety +32

      Let's differentiate between 'star quality' and talent. The Music biz had no doubt that they were all talented beyond measure; that's the secondary reason they were all there (there was a tertiary (third-level) reason, and that's because family groups were the in thing at that time. If there was a fourth reason, it had to be Joe, who was the only reason his kids even got to be where they were in the first place.
      BUT, after they were established as a group, the primary reason the rest of the brothers were there--Joe knew it, the Music Biz knew it, and, somehow, I think all the older brothers knew it--is because Michael was there. No Michael, no drawing card. Any fan or casual observer of J5 at the time had to see that Michael was the standout.
      Now, Michael needed the group at the time; he needed the recognition that came with being the front man (boy?). The brothers were catalyst, like thrusters to a rocket. Michael was going places, and he benefited immeasurably from the talent in his sibling backup band.
      All the notoriety that Joe and the brothers achieved was through the reflection of Michael. He was the youngest, and most innocent, which was all the more reason to love that he could dance the dance, walk the walk and sing the song.
      Whether Michael could have gone as far as simply part of the setup, in imitation of, say, the early Commodores, we'll never know. He was never destined to be simply a member. His talented brothers were not imbued with that 'star quality' that came together as a whole from all the parts of Michael Jackson. The family was indispensably one of those parts. Without Michael, J5 would be another footnote in musical history.
      What 'star quality' really means, we can duke that out ourselves, I guess, but it was Michael's blessing. He appealed to millions, and his family promoted that. That's just the way it was.

    I believe all the Jackson brothers were talented musically ! A lot of the focus was put on Michael . I believe the other brothers should have been given more solo parts in the songs !!!!! I so believe the stress put upon Michael caused his autoimmune diseases...Vitiligo and Lupus ! He is all of 12 in this video. That means Marlon is only 13, Jermaine is about 15, Tito is about 17 and Jackie 19 !!!! Look at the tremendous pressure on these young kids. And they also had to be tutored in school . (VDH)

      Yours is the best statement on this (and other Jackson 5 posts) post. I witnessed the Jackson 5 in these early days, and my friends and I would leave the concerts in total awe of Jermaine and Tito's musical prowess. Just think, in this rehearsal they were just 16 and 17 years old respectively. This outfit was competing against the dynamite bands of James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone. And these kids held their own on a world class stage. This would be unheard of today.

      Vegans Rock Thank you for noticing. We all know Michael was a child prodigy and maybe the greatest entertainer of all time, but too many people on these posts dismiss the Jackson 5 members. They had otherworldly talent and it should be noted on these posts. The problem is, everybody tries to view the Jackson 5 through the lens of today's manufactured "boy bands" or the hip hop foolishness. You must look at the Jackson 5 through another lens: the lens of Motown & Stax, Sly Stone, Jackie Wilson, James Brown as well as the rock acts of that day. And this is not to mention the Civil Rights zeitgeist of that era.

      harsh is a little too kind for an abuser. two things can be true at once. you can acknowledge he’s a great talent manager and also a horrible father.

      @@alazjaw.8968 We all were abused back in the day. Remember "Spare the rod, spoil the child?" well, I seem to recall my friends in my diverse neighborhood when I was young, and all of us talking about getting spanked, whipped, beaten, board of educated (paddled) belted, etc. Those were my black friends, my Spanish friends, and just everyone got hit by their parents in some way. It was Universally cultural, shall we say!! Some kids were more sensitive. Usually, it wasn't something that happened too often, and I would say most of us grew up to be good and somehow empathetic people.

    I went early to a Jacksons concert in May 79, because l thought they would do a sound check like this. I was able to witness their arrival in the limo in the back of the theater where they were performing. Those kids would go from five ordinary kids to five sticks of musical dynamite when the music started to play.

    I actually prefer these practice sessions more than the live stuff lol. This is the period when Funk was at its initial early stages Sly and the family stone was the biggest act in the world in 1970, Isley's biggest albums haven't dropped yet. Marvins landmark album "what's going on" would drop a year later.

    I kinda get now why the older brothers went off and married early as soon as they turned 18. The brothers had to listen to so many people: their parents of course, Berry, Suzanne, the writers, producers, tour managers, choreographers, arrangers, photographers for photo sessions , tutors etc. geez. Being child entertainers was NOT easy at all.
