The Jackson 5 Story and Mania!! The J5=Black Beatles of 70's!

  • Everyone talks about Michael's popularity as a solo artist, where he became the biggest entertainer in the world, but it was driven by his hard work with the Jackson 5 as a child. The Jackson 5 were like the Black Beatles of the 1970s's when they came out. They even knocked the Beatles from the #1 spot with ABC. Their talent as children not only garnered kids fans but many adult fans as they performed like mature grown ups as they could sing and play instruments.

    Some of you are confused. In using "Black Beatles" I was discussing their popularity with fans was like the Beatles. Some people downplay the popularity of the Jacksons like it was New Edition. They were bigger than that. The Beatles were considered the most popular group ever. So I'm saying the Jackson are like the Black Beatles.

      Naw bro. I kinda see what you mean but naw bro. We always the black Babe Ruth, the black Ted Williams, the Beatles. I never ever hear it the other way around. Never. So no this is not right. Beatles are great but they are heavily influenced by Motown and Chess. The white world act as if the Beatles started everything. Elvis too. He is bad ass. Let the black artists stand alone.

      @Titanin1984 All great albums, though My favorite would have to be "Lookin Through The Windows" but I love "One More Chance" (from ABC) and "To Know" as my 1# songs of all time taken from (Windows)

    • @johnnyraven7980
      @johnnyraven7980 Před 5 lety +5

      @Titanin1984 I don't mind "Dancing Machine" album, it is a underrated album in which they took the brothers in a another direction with some rock elements "I Am Love" though I don't care much for that album and that too was a flop, I think the lack of more effort in promoting them was the downfall, Berry had already around 73 decided he was doing films with Diana and so he and his famous group of writers fell apart shortly during "G.I.T." which isn't a bad album. But I think it should have been more polished in terms of the songs, it seems like they gave them these few songs to learn and here record them and put it out. "Don't Say Goodbye Again" is a good song, though it was originally a solo number really for Michael. "Skywriter" to this date is their lowest album selling, I can see why because it was still that Bubble Gum-Pop soul sound they had been doing since they first came out. People weren't really ready I don't think for the group to change their sound which I think they needed too. Badly. Granted I do like "Skywriter" tracks. But these songs weren't really hits. The brothers had complained during 72 and 73 to allow them to write songs for their albums but Motown refused. Songs like "The Boogie Man" "Corner Of The Sky" "Touch" are highlights. My favorite is "I Can't Quit Your Love" yes it's a cover but I love that song they did. I like most of their covers but you hear Michael's growth in the vocals.
      The problem I have with some of their albums is the whole
      ("We recorded tracks for ABC, but we're recording "Windows" album. Ok just put some songs recorded from 70 on the newest album, somewhat re-record it and paste it on.) I never liked that. Just like "Don't Let your Baby Catch You" which I love that song but why it is put on a 72 album when it was recorded and intended to be on "ABC" so i never liked that.
      But overall I like the fact during half of the last three years they gave the other brothers time to shine on tracks.

      Did Michael write ALL his own songs? Lennon/McCartney wrote and PLAYED instruments, as well as sang. I noticed Michael NEVER plays instruments on ANY video, he just famous for singing and his dance rhythms. When did Michael play any instruments? Even as an adult, he just stuck with his dance routines and used his singing voice - so perhaps not so talented as a musician. @@JEEEVANJOHN

    I hate when they get dates wrong in these documentaries, especially something as simple as the year. For example, the year of the live Florida concert was 1970 instead of 1969. Their first single, ‘I Want You Back’ was released in Oct 1969, so there was no way they would be singing their 4th single in concert in 1969. It had to have been released in 1970. Plus, I was alive, at age 13, back at that time.
