- A video on replacing the water filter on the Whirlpool French Door Fridge. It shows how to reset the filter alert after replacing the filter.
This video was filmed on a 2018 Whirlpool French Door fridge model.
I'll show the steps to replace the filter. In end, you will need to dispense out up to 4 gallons of water to get rid of the carbon in the filter plus any air before using. It's recommended that this filter be changed every 6 months or so. The Fridge will chime and alert on the screen.
Hope this helps.
There's a newer and better filter out:

I love these CZcams directions! My wife thinks I'm a genius!!
Amen
I'll never admit to anyone I couldn't figure this out by myself buy yeah my wife thinks I'm essential now.
You are! A man who is strong enough to seek direction when he needs is is wise indeed!

You are a genius. By finding the fastest and most convenient way to solve issues 😉
I am close to 80 and had no idea how to change my filter. Had to ask for help every time. Then I saw this video and I know it sounds strange, but you made it easy for me to become more independent. I changed my filter all by myself and I feel GREAT!!!!!!
How did you remove the old one??? It’s so tight, takes all my strength to get it out!
@@carolynstovall9753did you try running the water for a few seconds before unscrewing it? Pressure buildup may increase the force on the filter.
Today is my lucky day! My first search for Whirlpool French Door took me directly to your video. The directions in my user manual showed the old filter in a dropped-down position when the plastic cover was lowered. When I lowered the cover the (Original) filter did not drop. I tried to pull it down with my fingers but with no luck. I thought there might be another release tab so I studied it for awhile, and not wanting to damage anything, went to your video. Then I realized it must have been very snug. I reached for my Channel Lock pliers and carefully gripped the filter and pulled lightly and it immediately dropped down. I unscrewed it according to your directions and replaced it with a Waterdrop Model: WD-F07 (Amazon). The Waterdrop was a little shorter then the Original and went into place when I closed the cover.
The WD water filter directions said to run the water for 5 minutes to remove air, etc. When I did that it filled a 12-cup coffee carafe 4 times. (Made note for next time.)
The installers did not leave me with a Blue Bypass Cap that you showed, so I'm going to contact the dealer to give me one.
Thanks for the sharing
Thank you! We have this exact fridge and my husband has been telling me for 2 YEARS that our filter was jammed and couldn’t be removed and that our ice maker was broken. Nope. Finally looked and found this, removed the old and installed a new filter and saw that he had somehow turned the ice maker off (discovered this when I updated the filter setting). Finally, ice after 2 years.
Glad it helped
I know this is 2 years old but does your husband hate you or something?
My husband tried to replace the filer several times but left it out on the counter cause he couldn't do it. I watched your video and I did it in no time flat. I needed a step stool because I am short but it worked. Great directions and thank you. Now I need to know how to work my double oven.😅
Excellent explanation on how to replace this filter! Why Whirlpool didn't include basic instructions on how to do this in their User's Manual is beyond me. Perhaps they want you to call a Service Tech and drop another $100 on a service call.
Thank you for this video....I have the same exact fridge, and there were no instructions as to changing the filter. Your video was very helpful to me!
The video was very helpful, showing how the filter is supposed to come out ad how to replace it. HOWEVER, on my refrigerator I had two problems. First, the filter did not drop down to get my hands on it. I used a small flat head screwdriver to lever it down. Be careful here so as not to break any of the other plastic parts. After it came down, I could not get it to turn counter clockwise. My fingers were not strong enough. So I got a small pipe wrench that opened up enough to grab hold of the filter. Before doing this, my wife took out the shelf below, so I would not break anything. Got a hold of filter with pipe wrench, and turned gently counterclockwise. It came out. FINALLY!. Putting it he new one was easy after following the directions in the video. After install, the new filter went up into the space above very easily and I was able to close the cover. I think that the initial install by the fellows from the store somehow cross threaded it partially on but not too far -- making it longer that it should be and reason why filter did not drop down as it should after cover is released, Hopes this helps someone.

This absolutely just helped me!! Mine was stuck as well. Thanks for sharing
I found that it stuck up there as the door swung open. You can grasp the filter more towards the base. One thing I wished the filter would do is that as it twists into place, is make a clicking noise to indicate it's on and ready.
Thank you!
Hey anybody….inwas looking at this fridge today. When you change this filter do you have e to turn the water line off like my current one? Really sucks to pull the fridge out every time.
I had to watch this again today. The "order filter" warning came on today and I totally forgot how to do this. Thank you so much!
Excellent video. I was lost as to how to change this filter, since the instructions gave no indication that the filter itself is on a spring that allows you to drop it away from the roof of the refrigerator. Without this knowledge, it is impossible to turn the filter to attach or detach it. Thanks!!
Easiest VIDEO 📹 I have used.. just got my fridge in December and needed to change filter. Instructions said to drain water from water dispenser for 2 minutes ??? To let air out.?? That seemed wasteless!!!
So I watched your video and you made it so simple. Thanks for sharing how to install the filter man. I am handicap and it was hard for me to twist but your video GAVE me confidence because you said exactly how to do IT and do it right ✅ and simple.
So grateful and i love when I need help I can find a video on utube 😊😇😊😇😊😇
Drain to let air and carbon out of the filter.
Oh Yay! This really helped me change my filter. The instructions in the manual are poor.Thank you so much!!
My water got really, really slow on my WP. Check the water supply, tapped the solenoid ( and wife said to change the water filter). So, changed the water filter and all was well. Thank your wife!!!
Thank you! Changed my filter after 2 years since I didn’t know how till I saw this video !
Thank you! This is the exact refrigerator we have!!!

Thank you! Extremely helpful. I was worried about breaking the blue cap.
Thank you ! Because of this video me a single mom was able to replace the water filter…feel great.
Great job!
Thanks for the video! it's not completely obvious that you just need to pull the damn filter down and twist after opening the cover. So this is helpful!
Exactly what I needed , thanks 😄
Much easier than reading the manual, thanks!!!
The manual would have been a waste of your time. I went there first.
I’m so glad you posted this video, thank you, thank you!!!
Great explanation, thanks for the video. Also I had to use a screwdriver to nudge the old filter out of its place before I could remove it .
Thank you, I did this myself after waiting 3 days for Handy Hubby to do it!

250,000 views because Whirlpool/KitchenAide could not print a silly arrow on the pypass cap or put a 0.01cent sticker inside the cover. Great vid, thanks!
Hope the video helps others. Even with a print, people like videos more. ;)

Thanks very much for posting this! We needed to change the filter for the first time, the instructions in the manual seem to be for a different/earlier model and don't make any sense, and our filter was really jammed in and I feared I would break something doing it wrong. Thanks to your video we got it changed out. Thanks!
I had the same probably with the filter being almost "stuck" in there. This video was very helpful.
@@CoachJaynine so how did you get it unstuck? Mine is stuck in the upright position and unable to pull it down.

You’re welcome 😊
Great thanks 🙏
Thank you 🙏
One item that I would add is the reattachment of the drop-down plastic cover (clamshell). After the filter is changed, pushing the plastic (clamshell) cover towards the ceiling of the refrigerator does not always snap into a fully seated position. However, if I slightly compressed the plastic dog retainer (pinched) as I pushed upward, that allowed the clamshell to get into a proper closed position. When I released the dog mechanism, it snapped into the correct closed position. It is the reverse of opening the clamshell cover.
Thanks
Thanks ...
Aw man, now I gotta change it! Gonna miss it beeping at me every time I walk by.
Thankyou!
You're welcome!
