The instruction manual didn't say to turn off the water to replace the filter so I didn't do so. When I turned the filter to the left to remove it, water came gushing out all over the floor. My refrigerator water inlet valve was rather old and in poor condition and I was trying to contain the water disbursement so it took about 2-3 minutes to get the water turned off with the help of my wife whom I had to yell for, during which time several gallons of water poured out all over the refrigerator interior and floor.

My filter is slightly different and was stuck so bad I had to use a Dremel tool to destroy it and get it removed from the fridge. The plastic on the male end neck of the filter near the 2 o-rings had actually fused to the female part on the fridge. It was about a 3 hour job so that I didn't damage the refrigerator end. The next filter I added a dab of vaseline, and although it was pretty stuck as well after less than 6 months, I was able to remove it after I turned off the water supply and drained the water from the water dispenser, tugging for about 10 minutes. Very frustrating for a $4,000 fridge. It shouldn't be this difficult to replace a filter.

Maybe someone has mentioned this but you neglected to mention to FLUSH the water line after changing. Run the water into a cup multiple times after changing, till the water is clear.

The filter is turned to the left as shown by her but she says turn to the right to remove it so you turn to the left to remove and then when you reinsert the new one you turn it to the right to lock it in

You turn the old filter to the LEFT to remove it & turn the new filter to the RIGHT to install it (lefty loosy, righty tighty) 🙂

I have a Kitchenaid KRFC300ES and need a model number for the correct filter. The current one is stuck so I'll try the hair dryer suggestion. Is there a water shut-off just for the refrigerator?

  • @bjjstudent4life

I opened case and there is no filter, I removed bypass cap as I am naive, no water. Does that mean water is shut off going into the refrigerator? Thank you for your help answering my questions. ❤

Use a steel bar and insert into the gap between filter and container, then can easily push the filter down.

How do you flush the water through the filter if you only have an ice maker? Thanks!

I broke my filter holder trying to change my filter. I need to order a new part, but the part I found does not look right - KitchenAid Refrigerator Water Filter Housing WP67001668. It does not have the bottom part which I do not understand. The bottom part broke away from the top housing unit. Please help me. I love my refrigerator and the filtered water.
