After installing this filter on my new fridge it leaked all over the fridge. The Kitchenaid repairman showed up without a filter and had no better luck, flooded the kitchen, took the fridge apart and insisted a $50 filter on a brand new fridge was my pr9oblem but he would replace the housing assembly if a new filter did not fix it. After some discussion Kitchenaid sent me a free replacement. It leaked badly, too. Then I disovered the problem. When installing a filter and rotating it with normal force, you are not there yet. A HARD additionl twist and it click locks into place. You can feel it lock. Nobody tells you this, and apparantly even the service people don't know. After 6 months with the new filter, I reinstalled the original one and it did not leak a drop. I even emailed Kitchenaid, saying they should claify this point in the instructions. For an answer I was told, "due to your recent problems you should buy an extended warranty from us" So they can send another incompetent, rude idiot to my house? Fat chance. I do like the fridge.

Thank you so much!! I almost had a panic attack because the filter wasn’t fitting. I’ve had this fridge for 9yrs and have never had a problem with the filter. Water was leaking out and I was In fear of damaging the refrigerator all together. After trying 5-6 times I spazzed out and just took the filter out completely but that only caused more leaking. I came to CZcams and saw your comment and applied a little more pressure and I finally heard the click noise. Thanks so much you don’t know how much you have helped me!
My problem is that I can't see why I need an expensive filter if I'm using city water that is treated. I am concerned though, about leaving an old filter installed as it could be actually getting my clean water dirty. I'd take it out but I suspect that would let water run inside the fridge. Anybody know the answer? I wouldn't trust the company to answer truthfully... they're just interested in selling filters.
did your fridge not come with a cap to cover the filter hole in case it wasnt being used? my fridge came out of the box with a blue cap installed in place of the filter, which i then removed and inserted a filter
Same problem. My new fridge does not come with one. I called the company and they gave me the filter part number. Order the OEM filter. I installed and same as your. Still not working 3 week now.

It deposits tons of white minerals into the water until you run 3 or 4 gallons through it first.

@@QuantumOfSolace1 Safe tap water is one of the great advances in public health in the last century. It is a benefit that should not be derided.
