Electric type Pokemon are very frail, but speedy and powerful... Can they beat Pokemon Emerald's greatest challenge!?
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Emerald Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Electric types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Same Logic applies to Supersonic. 55% Accuracy means nothing to the enemy.

@Fail Fort In emerald you can face Steven as a super boss in meteor falls. Sadly you can only face him once per save file iirc.

I've always thought Hidden Power is an element that counters the type you are weak to. Because I rarely used it before, the few times I've used it it's coincidentally always super effective to the enemy's type.
Many years later, on this day, I just learned the type and power is calculated and not fixed, lol.

Fun fact: leading with an electric type boosts the chances of encountering Pikachu in the Safari Zone. It's a cool trick, especially if you want to get ahold of a light ball to breed a Volt Tackle Pichu.
4x weakness team! Scizor, Paris, Swampert. Would be a real challenge to pivot!
Abomasnow instead of Swampert. All 4x weak to the same type.
My favourite pokemon Paris. Also don't forget the MVP Charizard. Chesnaught and magneton too if done in gen 6
Also add Flygon/Salamence with their 4x weakness to grass, Sneasel to fighting, and Shiftry/Cacturne to Bug

The Hidden Power Gods have blessed Silph today, as he got a Hidden Power equivalent to a Grass, Water, and Ice, just as his Electric-team needed for those Ground-types (the one with Manhattan the Minun came in really clutch)
Glad to see other people enjoy Minun. Little guy has served me well in an Emerald Nuzlocke as well.

Explosion in a nuzlocke, the absolute madlad
HGSS Druid challenge idea:
Available types: Grass, Water, Rock, Ground, Bug, Poison, & Flying.
No secondary types that are not among these are allowed, for example: no Dragon/Flying or Psychic/Grass.
Only berries, medicinal herbs, and apricorn balls, must trash or sell man-made items found on the ground.
This would also work well in Hoenn games because of how many grass and water types there are, and the evil teams are essentially ecosystem terrorists, though you wouldn't be able to get apricorns or have the berry pots.
This was just an idea I had that I wanted to share.
It's sad how electric types still have very few type combinations. It's hard to build a diverse team with what we got. I hope Gen 9 fixes that.
I mean, Gen 7 and 8 were a step in the right direction for me by introducing a lot of new electric type combinations for non legendary Pokémon, so I’m praying Gen 9 will follow suit
I think you mean that Electric doesn't have that many combinations to use on a team, bar 7 and 8. Only fighting doesn't have at least one pokemon that's also Electric (excluded legends cause duh) Just one example per type (Yes, I'm a nerd):
Rock: Alolan Golem
Water: Lanturn
Grass: Mow Rotom
Poison: Toxtricity
Psychic: Alolan Raichu
Fire: Heat Rotom
Ground: Stunfisk
Flying: Emolga
Bug: Galvantula
Normal: Heliolisk
Ghost: Rotom
Steel: Magnezone
Ice: Arctozolt
Dragon: Dracozolt
Dark: Morpeko
Fairy: Dedenee
Three of these on the list are all a single Pokémon lol

What is true is you cannot use them all properly outisde of gen 7 or 8 and even then there are limitations, especially since Rotom cannot be changed form easily (at least gen 8 made it easier to catch enough for that I believe)

Minun and Plusle actually have pretty good stats for how early you can get them. They start to fall off once your other pokémon evolve, but they can carry you pretty deep into the early game
29:34 I like to think about as if it were irl? Like literally, at that moment, the three best pokemon trainer (pretty much) in all of Hoenn are in one spot. Seriously, what a squad

I just found out about your channel a few days ago, but to be honest, I have binge watched nearly all of your nuzlocke videos last days. Love your videos and your style. Really happy I learned about you, because you rock (like a Toxtricity)!
I personally go by the rule of "If the Pokemon is in Type for a Monolock I can use it" so in any generations with Legendaries available in Type I'm allowed to use them. Wouldn't help here but in a Kanto Electric Monolock it'd mean Zapdos is available and it can solo carry late game.
You should have caught a mareep in the safari zone after the elite four for the steven battle! Great video as always though
That's what I thought, but then you realize that he can't because he already caught a Pikachu there earlier, and Nuzlocke rules prevent catching other Pokemon in the same place.
Really unfortunate for Silph since Hoenn is already limited in Electric Types.
You should do a nuzlocke where after each badge you switch the type your nuzlocking.
Yeah and start with the stronger types. So once you get to the elite four you would have like bug or grass. I like your idea alot!
I love watching these nuzlockes! As someone who is very dismissive of the lesser pokemon, its very refreshing for me to see them do so well! Minun has a berth in my next playthrough thanks to this video

Just what i needed these types of challenges in these game formats that force u to think are just top tier :)
Electric is my favorite type, so easy to remember weaknesses (ground). Hits flying and water super effectively. Resist elec, flying, steel. Then branched out learning the other type resist. My final in game team would have a light ball pikachu that had to be able to beat Red's. Yes his lvl 88, mine solo'ed.. also makes me miss the really tough in game legends like red. Also ground immune ofc.

I remember seeing Papasea do an electric type nuzlocke of Pokémon Emerald, and he did it in 50 attempts… I wounded how many attempts it’s going to take Sliph.

An excellent run Silph! The thematic choice of having Allen use explosion looked like a great callback to Barry Allen's sacrifice from infinite crisis. Restarting against Roxanne twice took a lot of discipline. Well done!

Honestly didn't think it's possible at all to beat this (even after the starter change to Magnemite), but a very impressive display of skill and gameknowledge did the job.

amazing video as always. those were some really godsend hidden p[ower variables you got silph. and you finally got a W against emerald, even though you couldnt beat steven this time. electric types are awesome mons and since most of them are pure electric you really didnt had many chances of using almost all of them, so this run feels fresh.
its a shame electric types were not present early nor were very common before gen 5. platinum has 7 main game encounters but its basically impossible to get past the first gym with only a level cap shinx.

Two options for a hardcore nuzlocke: a Psychic team on Pokemon LeafGreen and a Mono Bug type team on Pokemon Black2/White2. And a quest for you, on Pokemon LeafGreen use both Abra and Mr.Mime, as Abra being your inicial. What about?

Remember the altaria possesses not only earthquake, but also dragon breath which automatically paralyzes your pokemon. And it's a dragon flying duel type meaning electric moves are only half the damage.

Well done, looked like one of the harder types to nuzlocke in this game. I feel like you had a couple golden opportunities to sacrifice on the champion to give you a couple easier switches. Manectric sac on Whiscash to get Lanturn in for free, and Raichu sac on Milotic to get Lanturn in for free again, though I don't think Milo really has anything to counter your Lanturn other than Toxic anyway. GG

Man I wish to see hardcore nuzlocke with gen 1 game. Something like fire type only (which bassicaly means no encounter until reaching lavender town) would be challenging espacially with those glithes and changes that were done after gen 1 (and forgotten by most players)
