    Is the Seiko 5 a suitable replacement for the Seiko SKX lineup?
    There are a crazy amount of variations of this new Seiko 5 lineup, this one shown here is the Seiko 5 SRPD93. In this video, I talk about some of the differences between this and its predecessor and also what I do like about this new affordable Seiko.

    I quite like the new logo and I don't really mind 100m water resistant. So these aren't really cons for me. Nice review though.

    I'd love to take a survey on how many people actually scuba dive with their SKX.

      Is it a massive number? Probably not. Can any watch fail under the right conditions? Sure. But this new Seiko 5, attractive as it may be, is not as robust and water resistant as its predecessor. Screw down crown and 200m give peace of mind when caught in a downpour, swimming in a pool or lake, ocean etc. I personally would always hesitate to do that with a watch without a screw down crown.

      @@watchreport I totally agree. I'd never swim or go in the ocean with a watch that didn't have a screw down crown. And the SKX is more rugged and has greater versatility. And it's a shame you have to spend more $$ to get a real dive watch from Seiko. Seems their value for $$ quotient has diminished somewhat.

    The Seiko 5s are all sizzle and no steak! The "replacement" for the SKX is one of the Turtles, like the SRP777.

    My only Seiko. I bought it to mod with sapphire and a brushed chapter ring. Easy peasie! Beyond that I don’t much care for the brand. The QC is really lacking. As far as the water resistance, if I’m ever at 100ft underwater you can read about it in my obituary.

    I would not go swimming, diving, snorkeling, sailing, or surfing with one. I have never gone scuba diving, and doubt I ever will, but I do like my kit to be over spec'd for my actual use. A screw down crown is essential for this category of watch, IMO. So, functionally, NO. This watch is a rather chunky desk diver. There are many vintage Seiko 5 Sport watches that are of more appropriate dimensions for this purpose. I have no enthusiasm for this watch personally, but I am sure they will sell well.

    I own an SKX 009 and like it. Glad I own it. But for me screw down crown not a huge deal. I don't go swimming or snorkeling. I like the new 5 and like the logo. The movement is better so not a huge difference for me.

    Love mine! It's that exact watch. I got it for 179.00 at Costco, so it was a no brainer. I'd love to have an SKX, but I'm not willing to pay for what they're asking these days. As for the negatives, I don't mind the logo and if I find myself in more that 100m of water.....I'm already dead

    I have no history with the SKX so I don't judge the Seiko 5 Sport against it. I bought this two years ago with the dark brown silicone leather strap (Specialist line). Looks good, very accurate, I just wanted to buy an affordable automatic watch. Desk diver for me.

    In my opinion the main problem is the lack of accuracy of the entire Seiko 5 Sports line.

    I don’t understand why seiko did away with the skx? Such a great watch and I wanted to buy one brand new but now they give us this crap smh!

  • @BKOYO
    @BKOYO Před rokem

    The complaint about 200m is ridiculous unless you dive for a living regular person is not diving 200m = 656ft even at 100m = 328ft 😂
    Thats putting it in perspective when you actually see how deep you diving... Not a dive watch is laughable

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport  Před rokem

      It’s not about depth. A screw down crown and 200m water resistant means it has extra seals and gaskets and is pressure tested. They took a SKX007 case, that looks like a dive watch and took away the screw down crown and the water resistance. I’d be fine without 200m’s honestly, just at least give the screw down crown so you can go swimming and do whatever with this watch with peace of mind.

    Let’s be honest here….how many people actually need more than 100 meters of water resistance let alone 50? I can guarantee you that 99% of people that own this watch don’t go more than 8-10 feet down in a pool

      While true...to keep the 'Diver' style, with rotating bezel and crown guards, dial etc and lose the screw down crown and stainless case back makes it a hard NO...SKX hommages with Seiko movement are superior for less money...
