    Great review! I just picked mine up today, and gotta say, this watch looks so great in person, so much so that I didn't hesitate to pick it up. I wanted a Nato strap, but I have to disagree with you on the band. I think it makes this watch look gorgeous, and the silicone almost looks like a matte metal, or a woven strap. super comfortable with no break in time.

    Saw one of these in person and wow! Really a hell of a looker and I knew it would be $250 or less.
    Embodies one of my favorite things about seiko, is how tempting a seiko at any price can be
    My spb143 is better in every way and an actual diver but I may get one of these anyway

      It's always cool to be able to enjoy watches at different price points for what they are. And it shows that spending more doesn't always get you a more enjoyable watch (better in some regards, sure).

    The Seiko Honda Supercub SRPJ49 is one of the favorite watches I own, so I felt obligated to buy a beater work version with this SPRD95. Might mod this one a bit to make it more "mine," but overall I love it as is.

    I never owned the SKX, and I got the SRPD55 for my birthday. I love this watch, and though the technical specs are not the same, I feel that it’s a spiritual successor. It has the same look, and it’s a high-quality, classic, and reliable watch for beginners.
    I was bummed about the specs at first, and was very tempted by the Islander instead, but in the end I’m happy I got the Seiko. I love the watch and will probably end up with more. I could easily see the 5KX getting new enthusiasts into this hobby.

    I just recently purchased my first from this line, the all-silver SRPE71. I like it.... but.... mine hasn't really resonated with me yet either. I'm not sure why. Part of it could be that it's running over a minute fast per day, straight out of the box. Honestly not a huge deal to me, but better accuracy just would have made a better first impression. It's not a bad watch at all, overall.

    • @ChronometerCheck
      @ChronometerCheck  Před 2 lety

      That is quite unfortunate, and outside of the specs of the 4R's rated accuracy. It's possible it may be magnetized, had similar happened to me in a previous SARB I owned. If that's the case, you're in luck, because it's a quite an easy fix.

    5KX is not a diver. It is water resistant to 100 meters but not diver certified like the SKX. I have this exact model though and love it. I also have the SKX007J but really like the hand winding and hacking of the SRPD95.

  • @ChronometerCheck
    @ChronometerCheck  Před 2 lety +1

    The verdict is out. The 5KX are cool, but I haven't fully resonated with mine. Maybe it's just the color, maybe it's being held to the standard of the SKX. Who knows? Hope you enjoyed the video - what do you think about the Seiko 5 Sports?

    It is good automatic watch. For me it is not a good everyday watch because it is a mechanical or automatic. In 1968 it would have been a great everyday watch but it is not 1968. we got power steering cars, microwave ovens, phones that go where we go, you get the picture. Today a good everyday watch is a solar quartz that is +5/-5 seconds a month accurate or an atomic that has a perpetual date and is a fraction of a second accurate all the time. If you're just some rich bum or some other kind of bum for which punctuality is not necessary then yeah an auto or mechanical is fine, but hey Cops don't carry Peacemakers anymore for a reason.
