Between Jennifer Lawrence claiming she was the first female action star and Rachel Zegler being… Rachel Zegler, it’s not a shock there audiences have zero desire to see this movie
If you read the book (came out about 3 years ago), it's supposed to be about Snow. The fact they didn't swap the main character to the female to dominate the story and arc is refreshing
Yeah, and let's not forget that Hollywood likes the stories about how female leads turns into villains because of the 'bad society'. According to Chris, they are trying to apply the same formula to a male character this time. It's refreshing too.
@@fridakahlo4225 Bruh everyone including you in the comment sections seems to be forgetting this movie comes from the book written four years ago. These weren't decisions made by Hollywood, they're just telling the book's story.
@@roccocardinale6112 then let me make you remember that LOTR was written decades ago and we all saw how it went with 'The Hobbit' and 'The Rings Of Power'.
@@fridakahlo4225 Oh sorry you misunderstand, we're talking about Hunger Games not LOTR. The fact you'd group Hobbit and Rings of Power together is laughable, but glazing over that, as a person who has been a huge fan of the books and movies of the Hunger Games, I've been highly anticipating this new prequel. And I can tell you, much as the four previous movies, all with the same director, this new prequel stays very true to the books. Once again to remind you, this wasn't some scheme thought-up by greedy Hollywood executives. Suzanne Collins wrote a book people wanted to see adapted as a movie, and she and Snyder listened. Don't like Hunger Games, thats fine, but belittling it with misplaced anger is just wrong.
I actually liked the book, I thought it was an interesting exploration of the immediate aftermath of a horrible war, where the capitol nearly starved to death and decided to take it out on the defeated citizenry with these death games, which was only supposed to be a one-time event, I think. The story is from the perspective of Snow, who is a young and idealistic man with narcissistic, self-interested tendencies. He does fall in love with the girl he is assigned to, which helps her and him when it is apparent that, for whatever reason, he has a real interest in seeing her win, so they both become stars of the show. The clumsy beginnings of all the established things we see in the trilogy are shown: the origin of the mockingjays, Snow learning to poison people, manipulating others to get his way, and all throughout you have this sense of doom, where no matter how much you hope for the best and wish to see Snow's better nature win out you know he ends up a merciless dictator, and the book did a reasonably good job at justifying the transition. It's a good book, and if it was accurately put to film it's probably a good movie.
I only finished reading Mockingjay, only because I wanted to know how the story ended before seeing the 4th movie in theaters. I can’t remember in the story if the war set 75 years prior was the nuclear war that wiped out most of humanity, or a separate civil war set after the events of WW3. Could you explain it to me?
@@thatperformer3879 Its Post-post apocalypse most North America continent expect chunk of continental united state was under sea and panem is new nation born on it, civil war happened but the capitol prevail with supposed destruction of district 13 leaving snow orphaned as his father died in battle.
I agree, in all reality if they would've split this into 2 movies this would've been so much better. They should've ended this movie with Snow being shown that he was caught cheating.
Also both Snow White and Lucy Grey, are known fir their singing voice and their relationship with birds. It's actualy shoking they casted the same actress for two roles that are so similar
Yes there are still a lot of us excited for this movie 😂 Just like all of The Hunger Games movies, I see The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds more as a cool companion piece to the book than a good substantial story on it's own. Great casting, great set design and keeping just the right amount of plot and characterizations to make it a faithful adaptation, but without previous background knowledge of the book you likely wont have as good of a time.
Totally agree. It was a great movie. Can't understand the massive incel hate response on this channel. Who knew 5 bitter middle-aged men could have so much contempt for a film simply because a supporting actress was sucked into a bad Snow White remake.
If Chris's interpretation of Snow was he was ever virtuous at any point, then they've already failed at adapting the book. He was always conniving. It's actually a major plot point, and affects two different characters' ultimate arcs. Three if you want to count Snow as the ends of the other two's arcs due to his conniving nature affect him as well.
Thing i always liked about the hunger games was how it portrayed the capitol. The absurdity of the citizens mirrors our own society more and more every year. Its really quite an interesting look at opulence in dystopia.
The thing i didn't like about the hunger games was it's reference to capitalism. The fact that it is more a reflection of communism throughout history is almost comical.
Personally, I’m much looking forward to either Napoleon’s movie with J. Phoenix or Enzo Ferrari’s movie by Michael Mann, and knowing Mann’s repertoire with “Heat” I can expect some or(redacted)ic sound direction for a movie about the biggest car brand out there and one of the icons of motorsports. Edit from future me: So Napoleon was such a disappointment, I bet that the guards at his tomb in Paris heard some strong rumblings coming from it. God help us all and don’t let Ridley Scott get in that kitchen ever again…
The book is actually a fascinating character study. I doubt it would translate well to screen though. I would like to point out from my reading of the book that Snow is NOT a virtuous character that gets corrupted. If that's how the movie is portraying him then they got it completely wrong. Everything he does in the book, every good deed, is about forwarding his own cause in the hopes of obtaining opulance and popularity, which makes sense, given the environment he grew up in. His character in the book is understandable and relatable but it is not a virtuous or altruistic one by any means.
Except "they" didn't ruin anything. This movie didn't come from thin air, it is the result of 4 years of hardwork following Suzanne Collins' release of the prequel book. The movie came because people enjoyed the book.
As much as I enjoy the books, and to a lesser degree the films, it’s not really a Division One franchise is it ? There’s not a lot for the anti-creatives to ruin. Unlike Star Wars, the Marvel stuff, and now Doctor Who. Those three will keep them busy for a few more years. Next step : gaming. I’m expecting the next Grand Theft Auto and Elder Scrolls games to be neutered.
@@DorisDay-lw4xs Yeah I totally agree. The thing that irks me is that Drinker's Chasers frame this movie as woke garbage even though I can quite confidently say "wokeness" had no part in the making of this movie. Whether you enjoyed it or not is a matter of opinion but I think it's wrong to dismiss the new Hunger Games movie as simply woke garbage when it got great audience reviews and truly had nothing in it to make it seem like the normal Hollywood trash.
I learned how to run in football practice. Could they have not taught him how to run? Makes no sense to spend all that money and not give him running lessons lmao
The way Chris describes her trying to run reminded me of the little kiddo who played Leia in the Obi-Wan series. Watching that kid run was painful. Also, I need to find Battle Royale.
Which sucks because the book this movie is adapting is really good. I’m going to see it, personally. It’s just getting harder and harder to separate the character from the actor.
I don't know. She's a body. As long she just says what's in the script, she's no more radioactive than any actor. They are all pretty fucking stupid, you know. Their mistake is they are supposed to hide it, but alas they couldn't resist the lure of social media "fame".

She's super talented but her Ego is out of control. Especially for an actress who has yet to even be in a movie that has been a hit.. Basically people have been telling her she is going to be this mega star since she was like 10. You can tell this by how she pontificates all the time..

I wasnt a huge fan of the hunger games movies, but I have read this prequel book and I can genuinely say its pretty good honestly. If this film does a solid job of adapting it, I think you'll like the film far more than you think. The book had no girl power crap in it or anything, it was about Snow lying to himself, being an asshole, and becoming the tyrant we know from the films. Hopefully the film remembers to focus on him, not Lucy (Rachel's character).
@@KrazzeeKanehuh, it's weird that I find an optimist these days. I would venture so far as to say naive, but it's possible the movie is made well. All the same, I'm not particularly excited for it.
Suzanne Collins (the author of the Hunger Games books) admitted that her inspiration for writing the first installment came from watching reality game shows. She never saw the movie, "Battle Royale." The first Hunger Games film adaptation, is not even faithful to the first book.
"diehard" fans i.e. they could hand you a plate of crap and you'd still eat it if it had your franchises' branding on it, essentially have worthless opinions.
Talking about girls who can't run, reminds me so much of the Divergent series when the MC, her 2 guys, and the villains are running through the woods. It kept cutting to the guys who are actually in shape and athletic, looking like they're burning like 25mph through the forest. Then it cuts to the main chick and she's literally scampering lol was so jarring and hilarious
I heard the Director's instruction was to blame for that. He said "run like you've never run before" which was interpreted as "run like hell" or "run like you never tried running before"
@@xelaander8429 But she is also just one of those slim chicks that look somewhat hot while young, so they never really put in the work to get in actual shape. Running is not something you can naturally do without regular practice. We tend to think it is, because kids just do it naturally. But spend enough time not using those muscles as an adult, and you'll lose it.
Yeah, the movie did do fine, not huge success but good enough to be profitable. Also it is one of the few cases where a franchise that traditionally had female lead gets a male lead in the newer installment. But obviously these guys won't want people to think Hollywood would do anything that is pro men or their business of constant complaining would lose its meaning.
”NOBODY Cares About The Hunger Games” yet it got 100 million dollars in the opening week and it is praised by the fans of the books Sure, Drinker, sure...
I used to like Drinker's reviews of movies, but over the course of the past few years it seems hatred has seeped into his content. And as the comment above me pointed out, he most likely will change the title.
Literally. I feel like more recently drinker hasn't considered the actual content of the movies/fans but rather the controversies of a piece and politics surrounding actresses/actors . Judge a work based on its soul, emotion, and message-- not on a comment an actress made or political beliefs a director may hold etc..
Drinker did't say that, Chris Gore did. If you bothered to watch the video Drinker just asks if whether anyone has even heard about the movie or if people still care about another hunger games movie.
@@Eldemaer totally. im just saying that i feel as if recently drinker has become more judgmental on works because of political controversy surrounding them, rather than the core material.
I think the problem with both the MCU and The Hunger Games is that those storylines were wrapped up, yet the corporations have to keep mining the IPs until they stop making money. It would be better to quit while they’re ahead, but they can't do that if they think there’s money to be made.
It can be really hard to resist that temptation and so many fail. I used to be a big fan of the TV series 'Heroes'. Before it even launched it supposedly had a very precisely planned arc that would carry it through a few years and end. But after the wild success of the first season they fell to temptation and tried to veer off course to expand the arc, and ended up completely destroying themselves. Poor Icarus.
@@nitroxylictvI mean they don’t really suck. They are one of the better and more well made YA novels and movies. Great casting and overall a good message
Drinker's video title is burying the lede on this one: the real highlight of the video is having _both_ Critical Doggos on the stream at the same time!
Drinker also made a video titled "Why Nobody Cares About House of the Dragon" but when it was announced that HotD is the biggest HBO premiere, He changed the title to "House of the Dragon trailer breakdown"
I know it's an unpopular opinion but I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoyed the book and how it illustrated the capitol when the rebellion ended, opposed to what we saw in the actual trilogy when the capitol was thriving. And there's good tie-ins too. And yeah, Snow is the main character, not Rachel/Lucy. And if the movie turned dark in the 3rd act that's really reflective of the book, so it sounds like they stayed true to the src material. Didn't enjoy the book as much as the main 3, but I did enjoy it, so I'm lookin forward to the movie either way. The trailer was pretty accurate, every scene in that trailer you could pin-point to a part of the book, all the scenes were direct rip-outs from the book, which is really appreciated in a world where everything gets modified for the screen. Rachel is an idiot, but I'm not watching it or not watching it based on her stupid political takes. I'm there for a good adaptation of the source material, and I'm looking forward to it. Really rooting for this movie.
My sister read the entire book series BEFORE the movies and it was her favorite at the time. She has since stopped caring about hunger games entirely and that was the original core audience, the book readers who turned out to see a story they liked brought to life
the girl boss era seems to be finally coming to an end! We can only hope. Because if it does then we will finally get back to seeing actual real male AND FEMALE characters that we can actually identify with and have emotional connection to

Not their own incompetence and crap story telling/character building...no its mens fault. And so girl boss will keep girl bossing without anyone ever telling her 'no, enough is enough' because the execs dont want to be seen as 'sexist'
That would have happened long ago if they cared more about profits than The Message. It won't end. They believe it's too important to push this stuff on society.
To be honest, a lot of what the Drinker posts nowadays ages like milk. Hatred has seeped into his content. He had similar thoughts in regards to House of the Dragon, but changed the title to the video when he realized he was wrong.
I read the first book because my son was halfway through it and recommended it. I liked it, so I read the other two. The farther along I got, Katness kept arguing with herself and carrying on these internal conversations, and all I could think was, ‘Shut up! Shut up shut up shut up! Get on with it, doooo itttttttt!”
I read the ACOTAR series because a friend recommended it. I had to give up after the third book because the main female character would not stop fretting and crying and giggling even when she was supposedly the strongest warrior person ever. It was so painful.
That 1st book was trash 🤮🤮 How is there 3 paragraphs dedicated to Katniss being hungry, but 1 sentence describing the teens killing each other in the opening? Felt like the book was censoring itself.
I rather liked the aspect of Katniss just getting more and more messed-up in the head as the series went on. As she SHOULD have been. That kind of stuff makes you mental, and she was seriously mental by the end. Some people don't get how she just wanted to live alone in the country at the end but I totally do. I can't say whether I'm reading it in or that aspect is intentionally there, but that's my take, anyway.
I hated Katnis, she was so self centered and unlikeable. It wasn’t even her prickly nature, I could have dealt with that. It was the undo angst over a love triangle that didn’t exist.
I was surprised they didn't advertise it more. Perhaps they were expecting the star power in the movie to carry it. It features not only Zegler, but Peter Dinklage, that bigot from the 'Woman King', and a collection of LGBT activists and co-stars from the 'West Side Story' remake that flopped.
The marketing makes sense. It’s her story - on how her character used a person to her advantage and then discarded him and sent him on the path of death and destruction. Kind of like the actress herself and the movies that she’s been involved in.
Well I'm looking forward to it. Liked the original movies and this one does the logical thing of showing a bit more about how it all started. Looks visually interesting and well made from the trailer. It's been a nice long time since the original series finished so don't feel a fatigue about it.
As someone who grew up with movies, The utter pain in the ass, and expense, of actually going to the movies now, was tolerable, when movies were movies. Now, between the crap messaging, and actors running their faces and making me hate them, I'll prob nvr walk into a theatre again.
Not only is Battle Royale better executed than hunger games, its a better premise. By using a class of students instead of 24 random teens, you have built in storylines and animosities, even from the perspective of the hunger games in that the upper class is watching it for thier entertainment, this would still make more sense to have a class of people who already might wanna kill some of thier classmates rather than 24 randos.
After putting it off for so many years, I finally tried to watch hunger games this year. Turned it off after 30 minutes. Battle Royale is much more entertaining
I didn't even know they were making a Hunger Games prequel. The Hunger Game movies did pretty well, as I remember, I didn't care much for them. But was there a need or a want for a prequel to them?
The movies were a big cultural hit at the time, but kinda forgotten now. Honestly, 300 is more culturally relevant today than the Hunger Games. I mean pop culture, of course. Kinda funny how that works. The first one was a smash hit and the peak of young adult novel adaptations. But this was over 10 years ago and the young adult novel adaptation scene has died out. It´s a heck of a gamble to spend 100 million on.
It's a FANTASTIC book! Book fans, of the majority, love it! I'm currently reading it. Snow's psychology is extremely fascinating to dive into. It does more world building within the series and offers new perspectives about the 1st rebellion through the lives of characters who were alive to witness it from all walks of life. 10 outa 10.
@@SuperCrazyEstonianThey haven't gone forgotten. They're as beloved as Harry Potter (before the extremist decided jk Rowling's a terf.... she's not.). Actually, could you imagine parents doing the onsie hp sorting thing but hunger games districts? 😂 "OK, little Timmy! Pick your district! Do you wanna starve to death in district 12 while be forced to mine coal, or do you want to go to school to be taught how to slaughter your peers for sport like district 2?" 😂
until like a month I among pretty much everyone else didn't know this even existed. And the fact that it has the world's current most "beloved" actress is a recipe for an yet another glorious flopbuster masterpiece *chef's kiss* :D
The movie was actually really good, and I feel like people are only hating it because of Rachel Zegler, who performed very well. If you’re letting your petty views on *one* actress affect your views of the entire production that’s fine, ruin a great film for yourself, but don’t discourage others from watching it just for the same superficial reasons. Whenever I ask about the flaws of the movie, or why people have the viewpoints they do, I either get people saying the ending was too rushed (a valid criticism), or I get a plethora of anti-woke incel neck beards spitting out pointless buzzwords like “Rachel Zegler’s career RUNIED!!” “ABSOLUTE FLOP!” without actually critiquing the actually movie.
A Hunger Games prequel about the war that destroyed society could be cool. A technological super power engineering animals to kill their enemies can make for a visually interesting narratively bleak film. I don't think Hollywood could possibly do it right, but the concept has potential.
Kind of feel like that would take away from the mystique if the setting. It's best to leave it up to the audience to imagine a war so devastating that most of the population of North America is wiped out and the fate of the rest of the world uncertain.
If they made Snow a "good, virtuous guy" at the beginning of this movie, I feel like they've already dropped the ball. MY reading of the book, at least, seemed to clearly show that every move he made was just an attempt to climb the social ladder.
Dude I love Critical Drinker but they've gotten this movie so wrong. Don't listen to 5 middle-aged men who didn't even go see the movie. Snow is of course, likable as he is the main character and also does have some seemingly good traits. His close relationship with his cousin Tigris, the pity from hiding his prominent family's horrible financial situation, the desperation to break through his constraints and become a successful and powerful man in the Capitol. It's as the movie progresses that you see the man he truly is.
I went into the book skeptical and ended up ADORING it as a character study. Due to that reason, I've argued that it won't translate well onto screen. Plus, I generally have no interest in seeing another Hunger Games movie. That genre was driven into the ground and there hasn't been enough time for anyone to really miss it.
I love Snow after this book as a man and a case study of what the world can do to potential heroes like him and Kadniss ...he never lied to her and now we know why, he's tired of lying .

The Hunger Games were Ok films that I haven't gone back to nor have I felt the desire to. I can't imagine what would drive me to see any film with Rachael Zegler at this point much less a franchise film that's now out of it's time like the Hunger Games
It was a good movie about a narcissist and a toxic situationship. Rachel was goofy with her southern accent, but had her moments. When she defacto broke up with snow in the forrest with just her expressions, that was peak.
Yeah, the series had its flaws, but wrapped things up and told a decent yarn with some great performances and gritty action. A prequel to it, spearheaded by an actress who keeps antagonizing both fans and showbiz people, feels like a hard sell.
Doesn’t matter, man. The people who don’t like RZ and the people who like Hunger Games aren’t the same people. I think the box office will be whatever it was gonna be, no matter who was in the movie.
My girlfriend and I are planning to see the new Hunger Games because we liked the originals and the novels. As for Marvel, after watching the Loki finale and reading some reviews, they wrapped up the episode mentioning the defeat of a Kang variant on 616 (not sure if that is correct, didn't watch the last Ant Man), so it leaves Marvel open to disregard Kang and change directions, or bring in a different variant of Kang and be able to easily re-cast the part. Either way, I feel like there are not a lot of people excited on the direction Marvel (or DC, or a lot of other comic adaptions) are going in the near future!

When I first heard there even *was* a Hunger Games prequel my immediate thought was that it would be Haymitch's story. I like Donald Sutherland but I don't give two shits about President Snow. I'd rather see a backstory for a character I actually care about so I can't help but feel this was a missed opportunity.
Haymitch was my favorite too and I was excited when the second book opened the possibility that he would do the games with Katniss - almost like a father daughter mentorship thing and that would’ve been awesome but NOOO. We had to suffer through boy toy again because that relationship is so fucking interesting 🙄
Woody Harrelson kicked that role's ass too. It's too bad I don't remember if he really got a lot screentime in the first film, it just felt to me he fit the role so well (even if his appearance was entirely inaccurate to the books which sucks lol)

I read The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes. Honestly, it really should have been broken up into two books. The back half with Snow falling to the Dark Side, which I'll agree was potentially more interesting could have been fleshed out into a full story of the downfall of a man, but was pretty rushed in the book.
I mean yes, ideally they needed two movies like with Mockingjay, but in Hollywood, especially these days, two movies are never guaranteed. They did a fairly good job showing all the main points of the plot and the development of Snow. It could've been a tad longer which I'm sure extended cuts exist of, but they also needed it digestible to a wide audience. Overall, the adaptation did very well and did not miss any main points or side-characters.
@@roccocardinale6112 For the record, I said two books, not two movies. The story has two very distinct sections and a blindingly obvious break point. Collins could have easily leaned into the 10th Hunger games as the meat of the first book. And let's face it, most of the audience is here to watch the Hunger Games, so spending a full book exploring an early tournament and Snow and Lucy's witting and unwitting contributions to the over-produced spectacles we'd later see would be an audience pleaser (both book and movie) that could easily be capped off with with Lucy's victory in the climax and Snow learning of his exile at the conclusion. Then Collins would have had an entire book with Snow as an officer in District 12 to explore his path to the dark side in full.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq Ok I definitely see your point. Wow, now you're making me see what we missed out on lol. Honestly though, having one which ends with his exile would've been amazing cause that gives us a lot more time to see his character, the bad with all the good and redeeming qualities. Then to see a second movie where he begins slipping would've been awesome. Think the ultimate problem lies in the fact he wasn't actually in exile for very long. Just long enough to make him desperate.

They obviously didn't have a big marketing budget as no one I knew saw ads for it, but we still all knew it was coming out. I did enjoy it and sorry to tell you, but Hunger Games is a mainstream franchise with a strong fanbase. $150mil should be easy to hit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it managed to hit $175mil as word-of-mouth spreads.
I think the first one was solid, the second one slightly less, and the third one oscillated between being quietly uplifting and loudly incensed; limiting its action by keeping its characters tightly rooted in the same place, even as they were shuffled about different positions. The franchise overall definitely did identify a gap in the market that it could fill though, so you could definitely say it's economically commendable both aesthetically and financially. But I don't think the franchise needs a prequel like this.
I enjoyed the series, though I wish Jennifer Lawrence could shut up with the woke crap. Fortunately she looks quite different now so the films can still be enjoyed. As for a prequel, why bother?
Fans who read the book thought it was hilarious in the way the trailers were edited. It was done on purpose to get anyone who didn’t know a thing about the plot to pull them in with a “love story”. I thought the book was pretty interesting. And yes there are still many fans from the original who are excited for this one. Many who were teenagers when the originals were released are pretty happy to kinda relive that hype again P.S. Lucy Gray (Rachel’s character) is not a hunter, she’s a singer from a group. Rachel actually described this perfectly, “Lucy Gray is a performer forced to fight and Katniss is a fighter forced to perform”
lol you guys hit the nail on the head at the end, no one is here to actually hear about the film it's far more interesting to hear about how badly it performed and the financial impact upon Marvel for it.

The male characters wearing dresses doesn't tell you something?

Totally agree. It was a great movie. Can't understand the massive incel hate response on this channel. Who knew 5 bitter middle-aged men could have so much contempt for a film simply because a supporting actress was sucked into a bad Snow White remake.
If you need the book in order to enjoy the movie, then the movie is not that good.

“They’re running out of franchises to ruin!” Best line ever!

Not only the population, the landscape has changed as well, and what's more, as far as anyone knows, there are no people outside of the country.
Prequels are for people who have no imagination and need to have everything served to them. EG: GenZ
@@azh698 Yeah, but considering that the land was ruled for years by an authoritarian regime, this may have just been propaganda. Who knows. 🤷♂️
@@AtariDad It's definitely possible, but it's never confirmed.
If they made Snow a "good, virtuous guy" at the beginning of this movie, I feel like they've already dropped the ball. MY reading of the book, at least, seemed to clearly show that every move he made was just an attempt to climb the social ladder.
Yes 100%. In the book he was never a good guy.
In Australia the new Hunger Games movie is being marketed as the story of Snow, at least as far as youtube ads go.
Imagine being such an absolute droid that you watch ANYTHING with Rachel Zegler in it.
That must be a terrible existence.
The movies feel like in universe propaganda films made by the rebels. It's not intentional probably but I enjoy them when looking through those lenses
I love Snow after this book as a man and a case study of what the world can do to potential heroes like him and Kadniss ...he never lied to her and now we know why, he's tired of lying .
@@Ike_of_pykefunny thing is a lot of people dislike the book cuz it’s all about snow haven’t read it but did read the poly synopsis. Sounds mildly interesting
@@blabla187I finished it a while ago and it's the least pleasurable so far. Unnecessary back story. Snow is interesting but there is not enough story to carry interest. Books are always better than the movies made from them, and given the lack luster cast, I'll wait the few months it takes to get to stream.
Agreed. It would be very difficult to visually portray Snow’s inner conflict on screen.
0:30 “the main character of this film is snow.”
So Rachel is neither the main character nor snow.. how ironic 😂
as a non comic nerd, i think chris might be one of the most genuine dudes ever...
What he was doing with Film Threat magazine back in the 90s was nothing less than heroic.
I always love hearing his insights. It always seems like he's objective and honest
He’s a thinker, and he has a gift for expressing himself without coming across like a snob.
@@RolandDeschain1 i disagree there take that there isn't interest in the Hunger games movie.
Yes I love Drinker and the boys as much as anyone else, but Chris is the most non-biased person they have on Open Bar.
I do NOT volunteer as tribute for anymore of this nonsense.
I have watched some of the interviews for the hunger game’s prequel and it seems like they aren’t letting Rachel do interviews alone.
Oh yeah, they've filmed part of that movie in some industrial museum in my hometown, the thumbnail reminded me of that, now that I know she was in it, I might have to do some exorcism in that area. Don't want the evil Disney spirits haunt my neighborhood.
And to think I rode my bike past there a few times when they were filming. No wonder I've got depressed.
Check under your bed for Kathleen Kennedy!
😂
*no one seems to be talking about it*
*you guys are talking about it* 😂
Amazing movie !!!! A true flick for December !!!
Even without her appearing in it. I still do not think it would bave done well. If the film came out 2-3 after the last film there might have some excitement but it has been what? 6,7Years ago?
That's true. If the movie came out a year or two after the last Hunger Games movie It would have been better but this is what studios do they always wait too long.
@@blabla187 Because this movie is based on the prequel book that was published a year or two ago. That’s why. Suzanne Collins got the movie deal for this as soon as the prequel book was announced. Her book adaptations were well received.
The critical hounds are as excited as all of us about the hunger games..
One of the pleasures of old-time radio and early TV westerns is that they tell a story in tight, concise manner. With these current $250 million snore-fests, it takes 45 minutes before you even get to the main plot line.
Agree with slow and unconcise narratives in modern movies. Whats funny duration of movies dint even increased just economy of storytelling is piss poor or unimaginative.
Dumb Hollywood thought making movies longer would make us take them more seriously. Movie theatres must be furious because they lose huge numbers of daily showings because they simply can't fit as many movies in a day like they used to.
@@cattysplat I checked! Movies are not longer just inefficient. I checked data fr fr. Beacuse i tought they are longer but theyare not. I can share exel sheet even. hence u think its longer beacuse boring script and slow pacing.
I am definitely more entertained watching you critique these movies than me watching the movies themselves haha
Same thoughts
Bro anything with Zegler's a no from me after that single "wEIrd, WeiRD" clip
I didn't know a Hunger Games prequel existed until now. I didn't see those and won't see this. Give me Godzilla Minus One already.
Hell yeah! Can't wait for Godzilla next month!
"she looks like a girl who runs" lmao. Love these guys.
The fact that I havent really had the urge to go see a movie since Maverick and Avatar 2 (yes, I held on to a glimmer of hope that it would be good), from being someone who watches EVERYTHING says quite a lot of how bad Hollywood has become.
Why and how could Avatar 2 be good, when Avatar was a dumpster fire held up only by pretty visuals and misanthropy that appeals to the nihilistic leftist?
When I first heard there even *was* a Hunger Games prequel my immediate thought was that it would be Haymitch's story. I like Donald Sutherland but I don't give two shits about President Snow. I'd rather see a backstory for a character I actually care about so I can't help but feel this was a missed opportunity.
Tho Sunderland definitely acted its role in previous instalment quite good. So yeah Haymitch movie would be quite interesting idea if not too late...
Haymitch was my favorite too and I was excited when the second book opened the possibility that he would do the games with Katniss - almost like a father daughter mentorship thing and that would’ve been awesome but NOOO. We had to suffer through boy toy again because that relationship is so fucking interesting 🙄
Yeah, pretty sure the majority of the fandom felt that way tbh.
Woody Harrelson kicked that role's ass too. It's too bad I don't remember if he really got a lot screentime in the first film, it just felt to me he fit the role so well (even if his appearance was entirely inaccurate to the books which sucks lol)
I read the books of the hunger games so i enjoyed watching the movies. Had i not read them, i doubt i could sit through them
I actually read the books because of the movies and I started to watch the movies because of Jennifer Lawrence. 😅 She was hot back then. 😅
Now I can't stand her. 😢
Is this latest movie worth watching?
@@MichaelCTruth From what I hear, it is not well made. But I know cases when people enjoyed movies which others described thrash. So...
Lol damn this is a crazy combo of people drinker!! WELL DONE SIR great stuff
I loved the book and I loved the series. I haven't actually seen any of the films past the first, so it's such a bummer to hear people aren't liking it so much. I want the absolute best for Suzanne.
People did like it. I really like Critical Drinker but I'm shocked how badly they got this wrong. This movie broke 100 million at the box office, and it's an amazing addition to the Hunger Games franchise. Unfortunately middle-aged men get bitter and these 5 dudes are taking their anger of Hollywood wokeism out on a great non-political movie.
@@roccocardinale6112 good to hear. I haven't seen a movie in like 5 years since I became a mother (if I have a couple of free hours, there's always something I want to do more). I want to see this one at some point, and I always worry that I won't be able to get it on DVD or check it out at the library if a movie I want to see really tanks.
Asks Chris for his opinion, even though he doesn't have much time - Continues to interrupt him constantly.
I read The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes. Honestly, it really should have been broken up into two books. The back half with Snow falling to the Dark Side, which I'll agree was potentially more interesting could have been fleshed out into a full story of the downfall of a man, but was pretty rushed in the book.
I thought it was executed well; though I don’t disagree with you about it being better as a split book.
I do think the book did really well, but yeah comparatively there was a smaller section on his exile.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq I will say on another note, I don't know if you saw the movie yet, but it's actually amazing how much of it looked how I envisioned while reading the book. With the first 4, I never was really like oh I recognize this location per se, but with this movie a lot of the settings during his exile I seemed to instantly click with.
I'm a big fan of the hunger games and even I almost forgot it was coming out, it feels like there is no marketing for it
I don't think anyone wants to waste money on Rachel Zegler.
Because of the strikes
fan and hunger games, those shouldnt be together in a sentence tbh 😂
I think it’s a mix of the strikes and that most people just don’t care for this franchise anymore except its main fan base lol
Back when Hunger Games was new I used to read and enjoy the books, the movies were good fun as well. When I heard that there's a new book and a movie adaptation of it on it's way I was kinda interested to give it a shot, but it's been too long. I was still semi interested.
But then I saw Rachel Zegler was in it so I decided to never see this movie, not even pirate it.
Rachel was fine in it, her singing was PHENOMINAL bone chilling perfection, her performance was a little restrained which was distracting. The guy who played Sejanus STOLE THE SHOW. His performance was perfect and I’d buy a second ticket just to see this friggin guy act
Literally no one said to themselves hey you know what the world needs a hunger games prequel trilogy. I doubt this gets past the first installment.
It shouldn't do...because it's based on the prequel book that came out not too long ago. Just 1 book... so if they are smart they won't milk it more than that.
As Cragus said, Susan Collins (the author) only wrote the one prequel.
The book is pretty decent. Shows how Snow rose after his descent into power hungry crazy and how he schemed around.
Yeah except me bud. Lmao your ignorance is pretty great. This book is a one-off prequel to tell Snow's backstory. There's no telling if another Hunger Games movie will ever come after this, as they have no other source material. Movie made 100 million dollars so that's a shit ton of no one's who went and saw the movie huh.
@@roccocardinale6112 The movies broke even the first weekend. Congratulations. That's a failure in the movies business. Hope you enjoyed that 💩 forgettable movie.
@@djpuplex Guess you haven't paid much attention to movies for the last 2 years, but Covid really did a number on movie attendance. People simply aren't going to see movies like they used to. What I can say is that this is the first movie I've gone to see opening weekend (other than Oppenheimer which was shit) which had a packed theater. That's success in my book considering 90% of the movies I go see have empty theaters. The vast majority of movies which have come out the last few years have not broke even, so covering your budget opening weekend is not a bad place to be.
I think the second one, Catching Fire was far and away the best one.
Agreed, though the 1st one was good as well. The 3rd one lost the magic for me, felt like a different series@@wildmikefilms
Look up, The Hunger Games Pitch Meeting, absolutely hilarious!
Maze runner had the same problem. First one was cool, them they just got stupid
Many who were teenagers when the originals were released are pretty happy to kinda relive that hype again
P.S. Lucy Gray (Rachel’s character) is not a hunter, she’s a singer from a group. Rachel actually described this perfectly,
“Lucy Gray is a performer forced to fight and Katniss is a fighter forced to perform”
lol you guys hit the nail on the head at the end, no one is here to actually hear about the film it's far more interesting to hear about how badly it performed and the financial impact upon Marvel for it.
