- Disney Star Wars The Acolyte trailer reviews are out for Leslye Headland's latest Disney+ show set in The High Republic. George Lucas didn't design this time period but it hasn't stopped Disney deciding some Sith vs Jedi battles went on during this time. Disney Star Wars wants The Sith to be seen as the underdogs fighting against the benevolent Jedi, but this time with the Jedi being the bad guys. Pitched as Star Wars without wars. Is The Acolyte trailer worth watching?

The Acolyte trailer is out for Star Wars latest Disney+ series from Leslye Headland. The Acolyte is a series that has gained more red flags the more information we find out about it. Thinking it's clever by setting the story from the evil peoples perspective as the underdogs vs the Jedi. But rather than some moral ambiguity as Disney Star Wars is pitching, being an underdog against an institution doesn't make you good, your actions are still the same. So as George Lucas supports Disney, they consistently go against his vision for Star Wars. Far from the Good Vs Evil story that Star Wars always was. Now we get a fan fiction empowerment story of the sith as the good guys, could there be a bigger red flag? But what do you think? Disney has hated the Jedi since day one
George was probably threatened and bribed to say those things about Star Wars and Disney as damage control after recently kind of saying that Disney's stuff isn't canon.

For her to be "morally grey" would require her to have a conscious, and in turn have her turn herself in. Which she hasn't.
I've read stories of former SS members being repentant and turning over their life while not denying what they done nor excusing it with the "I was following orders."
By comparison, there is no repentance for her. She is just portraying a different shade of evil pretending to be good, which I see as more disgusting than just being outright evil.

The issue here isn’t giving us a Sith-driven story where it’s from their perspective. We’ve had that before: Darth Plagueis novel, Darth Bane books, Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader, Darth Maul books, etc. Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic. Those are good stories. Every “villain” is the hero of their own story.

What makes me laugh about her description of this show is her insistence on how unique-nay, revolutionary-her “morally gray” take on the Star Wars story is, using a _sith_ to do so, when there are literal _gray jedi_ that already exist (Ahsoka tano, anyone?) for that explicit purpose. This woman’s head is so far up her own rear she can’t see anything that extends past her, even other shows in the same franchise she’s now working on that came out just a year ago or so.

I'm glad I grew up in the 70's 80's when Star Wars was cool, I got to enjoy the movies and the toys.
now I'm turning off star wars for my kids so frickin sad.

I used Star Wars to teach the Hero's Journey in a world history class. It has all the classic pieces. It might as well be written by Joseph Campbell.

Don't be silly - her version has a poor African-American girl (cos even though it's set in space in a galaxy far, far away, we still can't say black) who just happens to be a mass-murdering psychotic who wants to destroy a religious institution completely because she has a slightly different view of how to practice her worship. That's a highly redeemable character, don't you know? Very good storytelling, doesn't come across as being at all ridiculously farcical.
Seriously: if they want to do a story from the POV of the bad guys... perhaps try telling us Palp's story? He's an unrepetent villain, and it'd also fit their agenda of "White cisgender men are evil", while also being something the fans would actually embrace, cos he's a character we like.

The issue isn’t that they are trying to tell story from the villains perspective. They’ve even stated that the protagonist is the villain, and the good guys, the Jedi, are the antagonists. That’s a cool concept. But they’ll probably mess it up.
Also, the “someone is killing Jedi, it doesn’t make sense” line works because this is the high republic era which was a golden age where there was mostly peace

"Protagonist" and "antagonist" are not synonyms to "good guy" and "bad guy". A protagonist is simply the main character, and an antagonist is the one opposing the protagonist. Those terms have nothing to do with morality.
Though I doubt that Weinstein Jr. over there knows that distinction and they're just gonna do Sith = Good and Jedi = Bad.

The Sith, while not all inherently evil, gain their power and eventually lust for more power through the use of the Dark Side. Any exceptions are VERY rare
Meanwhile Jedi are just Space Samurai Monks who are kinda assholes most of the time, but ofcourse they are still better than the Sith
