We will finally get a llama, explore treats that unlock things like the evil chicken, golden animals and extremely powerful bonuses you'll have from the animals and objects in the pack.

I loved the Jean Grey Super-psychic attack chicken I couldn't stop laughing for over 10 min! I can just imagine your Sim busting into song, ".... don't fear the reaper .... "
Still looks better than most recent packs we've gotten, but yeah it would be so easy to cheese the game with birds and rabbits, not unlike dust bunnies. Although I still can't get over the fact that you can get 10,000 simoleon artifacts from not sweeping your floors.
Present piles are my op item of choice. You can just keep opening them and getting free stuff

@@oldvlognewtricks Not sure. Like Carl said this isn't the final product, so I'd rather wait until the full pack is released and reviewed before I decide if I'm gonna buy it or not. Given EA's track record though, I'm gonna go ahead and guess "no".
Looks like pets 2.0. Reusing resources you already have in the game is only ok when it feels different. I don’t think this is that different from pets and other previous pack that are already in the game.
@@deezy2k1 It definitely does have a Cats and Dogs vibe to it, especially with the foxes, but I'm hoping with more development time it'll be more of its own pack. Not saying it will, but I'm hoping.

This is a joke that dates back to the days of newspapers. There used to be ads in the comics section for giant fruit plants. My brother actually ordered the catalog and found out they were varieties bred for jelly companies. They were about as common as Sea Monkey ads.
Agree! I came here to say this. I wish they would have just expanded on gardening by adding tons more things to grow and more garden/ farm stuff… the fertilizer you collect could have been what makes plants potentially “overgrown” and the quality of the fertilizer / your skill could help make them even better over time….
I wonder if part of the reason is they would have had to incorporate the oversized gardening in a free update if they had made it part of normal gardening.

Wild animals like bunnies and foxes are confined to the new world only 😉 its like with stray animals only appearing in Brindleton Bay

@@flrn_999 Yeah but you have to specifically select these lot traits in order for that to happen, while stray animals roam around all of Brindleton Bay by default; I guess that's what I wanted to communicate. I imagine the wild fox lot trait/challenge to be quite amusing in a place like San Myshuno 😂

14:30 my grandpa once won second place at our county fair when he had the only entry in a category. He talked to the judge and the judge could name no flaws with his work, the judge just didnt like giving 1st with only 1 entry.

Exactly! Especially when it's supposed to be out in a couple weeks too? EA is not really known for putting off Sims long enough to make it better so I don't see them changing the day. Most likely they are gonna fix a painting and call it done. 🤣🤣

I just wish there's more skills added like "Cross-stitching", "Foraging", some skills related to taking care of the animals like "Milking"and "Feeding" or whatever. I want more skills!!!
You know if this was the sims 3, you’d have several farming related skills, several different lifetime aspirations (for crop growing, for the different animals, for the 4H shows), and some gardening, farming related traits.

Unfortunately they consider herbalism and finding herbs/ore in the wild "foraging". IGN, when reviewing this pack called it foraging and they've listed it as a gameplay feature since the camping expac. I don't think it'll get more in-depth than it is without mods

I appreciate you give all sides of the expansions. I feel like a few other game changers get excited about certain things and gush about them rather than giving a well rounded review.
true. I don't follow many simmers, but the ones I do are so excited about this pack that I haven't heard 1 bad thing about it. I can always trust Carl to give an unbiased opinion.
I find James Turner isn't too bad. He usually does a rags to riches play with the packs and picks up all the bugs on his steams whereas few others don't seem to unless it's a huge game breaking bug. But he does tend to play with everything the ep has which is really good.
Your narration style not only makes these videos informative as heck, but a absolute blast to watch. And really appreciate your detailed coverage of Sims info!
Also, turns out the real farm was the friends we made along the way. Y'know. Birds.

It seems that birds and rabbits are the new dust bunnies. Some modder will fix that, and the animal lifespan thing too. I hope. Evil Chicken beating up Grim and Dale was hilarious. I am tempted to make all chickens evil because I can. So if you have Evil Hen and Evil Rooster do they make Deviled Eggs?

The way those "rewards" are being given are pretty much like many other packs, they act like loot boxes and give you random crap without any context or sense like it's hard to grind simoleons or something, I really can't get it.
Yeah, it seems they didn't learn anything from the dust bunny glitch. I really hate that random creatures just gives you great reward with minimal work, the game's easy enough as it is we don't need stuff to make it easier.
There are a few other “rags to ritches” LPs that are being tried with it and some are definitely not having an easy time! Lol While these videos make you cry from laughing, you almost feel bad for the other simmers because it’s so intense.
At least this time you have to select receiving the gift rather than them just appearing, so it’s completely up to you if you want the random crap

I wish they would integrate Sims' personalities into these packs. Like queasy Sims would not like planting or milking cows. Lactose intolerant Sims will be uncomfortable milking cows. Sims who dislike children will also hate chicks. Goofballs can juggle eggs. Clumsy Sims are prone to dropping eggs. Foodies are naturally better at canning. The game does an underwhelming job of tying their packs to the Sims themselves.
Edit: For those pointing out that I may be generalizing people who hate kids or are lactose intolerant, please be aware that these are just *suggestions* . I made the suggestion about disliking kids because the original trait may imply that Sims who dislike kids may dislike the responsibility of caring for any young. I don't know why they even added it when the only effect it had in my game was to make Sims uncomfortable.
As for lactose intolerance, it is honestly such a unique trait that I don't even know why they included it as a personality. I think the game would do better by implementing a separate inheritable/congenital trait category.
TL/DR, these are suggestions based on the game design we currently have to work with, and they do not reflect my personal views on other people's conditions/situations.

Mostly good ideas, but disliking children doesn't mean you'll also dislike chicks. Most of the people I know who aren't kid people absolutely love baby animals, as do I.
As far as a life sim goes the game seems to be forgetting it's 3 "main" features.
Emotions (barely implemented outside of things like the ghosts in the new pack)
"Smarter Sims" one element is multitasking, something barely utilised

TS5 is a different team than TS4 team. They work separately, just like with Sims mobile

People who aren't happy with the current direction and model of Sims 4 are hoping a new game will reboot things. In particular, there's concerns that the base code of Sims 4 becomes messier and harder to work with the more they add. So, the assumption is that a whole new game will be built on much stabler code while still being able to run on newer computers.
Personally, I'm not holding out hope for Sims 5 because it's likely to be subject to the same piecemeal sales tactics as most of EA's products. The best we can hope for is Sims 3 style integration for new content.

On console I predict all the animals frozen in the same animation, twisting for 30 sim hours until a sim stops trying to pet a cat or some random sim decision that crashes the whole world.

You mentioned your guide offhand in the video but it’s a good time to say I used the Carl’s guides RELIGIOUSLY for years and years and years as my go-to encyclopedia for all things Sims. The day I realized this video was the same guy, I nearly died. I love that you have a channel on top of the guide!

As a QA and software tester , I'm pretty sure Carl would be the dev team's nightmare at EA Games.
Carl, your level of scrutiny is what they need to fix this game for good! I hope they pay attention to your observations.
Thanks, Carl. This actually looks a lot more fun than most of the other recent packs. And it seems like you enjoyed playing with it, in spite of the limitations. Hopefully, they'll polish it up and add a few more features before it's released.
I'm hoping it integrates with everything else better than other packs. Way better than DHD!

EA in 2009: computers are so advanced now, we are going to create a game with an open world - my old laptop deals with it and so does my new one
EA in 2014: we are not going to make and open world cause it makes the game lag too much

My Acer Nitro 5 should be able to handle it. But then again I do have lagging issues every so often but that is probably game related.
I think if I combine the gameplay in this pack with a playstyle that is a bit more story driven instead testing out every feature immediately, I will get a lot of fun out of it. Like really, the building stuff is nice, the CAS is nice, I absolutely love that the sims in the town have a story and relationships and the world is great. It seems to also have more gameplay than the island and the snow pack, but I am not sure because I skipped both of them. I feel like sims is getting a bit better at creating appealing dlcs lately, but of cause it has it's flaws and it is still expensive. It's definitely better than I expected tho, I will get it on sale.
Yeah- I kind of want that bicycle reward (I'm sick of just using the university bicycle). I like how many more crops there are and more pies etc and that none of the rewards seem super overpowering. I do wish we had a way to make worlds so I could have more 64 x 64 lots. The crosstitching seems fine, though I'm annoyed by the "finger prick" being what holds you up. True sewers will prick their finger and just think "oh I hope it doesn't bleed and stain the fabric". They should have gone with "hand cramp" instead bc that can be a thing

Now seeing those chicken's roaming around makes me happy that the animals aren't tied to a object in the way they only move around in a tiny area. Sure it will be interesting to see how far they can roam, but it's a start!
Yes. That was the biggest problem with chickens in Sims 3. The actions were cute, but overall you were stuck interacting with a single object. That is the way they went with rodents in Sims 4, so it's nice to see they didn't repeat that.

Although it's not included in the game itself there are mods to create death on command I'm sure death by chicken will be included.
You would think that in what essentially constitutes a farming pack, The Sims team would honor Lassi's memory by making Pets interact with this DLC in a way that you could use Sheperd dogs to YOU KNOW Sheperd your animals? Or maybe, just protect them from foxes? I will insist till my dying days that sheep were a much better idea than a llama and that The Sims has opportunities to make this game better handled to them in a silver platter and yet choose to ignore it time and time again. It's adding little details like the ones mentioned above to the game, that I know take time to create, but that adds so much to the quality of the product that you would think the company would care 💀
There's a running joke about llamas throughout the entire Sims series. That goes back to the old SimCity games.

it definitely should not be nonsensical gifts like books. If they gift him random objects like rocks or berries or something most of the time then a shiny gem or lost earing once every few months, i think i could vibe w that.

I'm wondering if you can place the animal pen objects indoors tbh, could make a proper barn or some sort of shell for it
man.... makes me think how much I wish barns were something you could make with cow pens PER cow. You know, you can have 1 per cow you can fit and it's up to you to make sure there is enough feed slots etc to keep the cows happy.

I'm glad I'm not watching any of the other game changers because they'd just swoon about how cute and such everything is. Like come on, seeing you play made me worry about the pack because it looks like it'll be just boring and stressful very quickly

Did you happen to notice the life expectancy of the new animals? Similar to dogs/cats?
I think a chicken lives like 10-12 days and a cow lives a bit over 2 weeks.

I'm actually hoping the cross stitching stays like that on this pack. being able to do one in a while because on the knitting pack my Sims just kept stopping what they where doing and start knitting . it was a nightmare
They can solve the knitting problem by removing autonomy. I had to get a mod that removed autonomy from woodcarving because their inventories were full of half-finished projects.
I liked having the ability to finish one knitting project and start another because I was filling up a flower and gift shop and I could dedicate a day to producing products. Will probably add cross-stitch to the inventory if I get this pack.

I do hope there will be either a farmhand (like the maid & gardener) or the butler will actually do their job (they have tendency to do nothing but wipe the white glove covered finger over everything and complain about being hungry, at least they’re not leaving their butler book all over the place).

honestly, i think i'd love this pack as standalone. it's almost like a more involved farmville(anyone remember that?). but i don't think my laptop can handle it
Honestly to me, this feels like a cheap copy of Stardew Valley. I think that game costs as much as this pack alone, and it's, like, leagues better. Worth considering if you're into this kind of gameplay :)
@@emilyredbird7497 Stardew Valley costs $14.99 (and $7.99 on mobile which runs really well), while this pack costs $39.99, not including the base game!
Sims 4 has more realistic graphics and is more customizable, but I agree that Stardew Valley is better for farming gameplay (at almost a third of the cost).
Total chaos. Now that's a game~!
The golden hen appears to be the substitute for the unicorn from Sims 2/3, with it's blessing power. The llamas prancing, and cows snickering, are fill-ins (or advertisements) for horses.
Finally I can live out my cottagecore fantasies.
It would be nice if like gardeners, we can hire people to help clean our coops and such.

Actually I do know why - EA will probably have horses as a separate game pack to increase their profits ... bloodsucking vultures!

I can verify that it is very possible to lose at the fair, despite having the best animal or harvestables. Fair Judges judge not your entry, but typically who your parents are. Is the Judge friends with your parents? If so, you will win, if not, tough luck.
For example: when showing hogs at the Fair, the point of the judging is SUPPOSED to be selecting which animal they believe is the best. Best should be how good the meat is after butchering. In my first year showing hogs, I did not have any hog place in the top 10 (you bring 3 hogs). But, after the Fair, in the mail, I received a breakdown of how the hogs faired (pun intended) as far as actual meat goes. One of mine was 2nd! I got a trophy and a dinner at a fancy restaurant. At the Fair I had got NOTHING.
Moral of the story, Judges typically are not qualified for what they are judging. So the Sims 4 Cottage Living judging sounds pretty realistic to me.

I love to use the golden milk to evolve all my plants to perfect quality. It's called Golden Pulse. It's amazing, especially if you have expensive plants. Works on all crops as well. It's super lucrative!

Yes! Thats what I want to know, how or if it works with other expansions!!! Because thats what TS4 does so badly over all the other iterations. The fox comes after chickens/eggs and the llama spits at it to make it go away, but if I have a territorial dog will he make the fox go away? It should, but will it? I have doubts. Apparently manure of all kinds is now going to be fertilizer, but will dog poop be made into fertilizer? It should, but I have doubts. Will I be able to can plasma fruit? That would be awesome, but again I have doubts (it didn't do much as "juice"). Lot traits were the cause of the problems with the Haunted House residential lots (until the most recent issue of them not going home after finishing their job). How would all this work with them, hmmm? Will spell casters be able to upgrade the stalls/henhouse? Will they be able to upgrade the giant plants like they can regular plants? How will the chickens react to winter? I have questions! And I'm terribly afraid I won't like the answers. Because, generally, it seems if they test at all they only do so with basegame, so then when we play with all the expansions it goes POOF. I actually LOVED the paranormal pack, and its so broken now. Did NONE of them think to test with the lot traits of other expansions? I'm scared, really scared, because I really really want this one. But I want it to WORK so very very badly.
