  • I've updated and improved my Sims 4 Gardening Guide for 2020. This guide features everything a new player needs to know about one of the Sims 4's deepest skills. It should be useful in some way to both beginners and veterans to the Sims.
    Gardening has an extensive plant list, fertilizing, and evolution that may be difficult for new players to understand. This guide explains how everything works and provides helpful tips to making the most of all these features.
    We go over how to finish the plant collection, make a greenhouse, and make a massive garden that flourishes whether the player owns The Sims 4 Seasons or not.
    This is to replace my original gardening skill video, which was a bit out of date due to recent changes and was not up to the standard of quality I'm attempting to set for my guide videos. Let me know how it turned out, and if you see improvement in my work. It definitely helps me get better. I hope it was helpful to any newbies out there.

    You can remove the floor in the greenhouse, and plant directly in the ground, additionally, you can remove the ceiling to make it feel even more of a true greenhouse. My plants evolve just as quickly either way. I was actually really irritated when I bought seasons, as most of my sims use gardening for income, and it restarted half of their crops, and I had to re-place each plant within a green house built. Additionally, I have found that you can position the plants to be closer, two rows tightly place together, then leave space to walk on each side, this allows for faster harvest and care of the plants.

  • @anthologyofwhat
    @anthologyofwhat Před 4 lety +20

    Gardening has been my favorite skill since day 1 of The Sims 3. I think TS4, despite its various flaws, added a lot of improvements to it. I've been keeping up with your guides and videos for a while, and the fertilizer information has been extremely useful. Patchy yields growfruit (and PlantSim emotion seeds) surprisingly often, but this time around I won't bother keeping them around, since there's nothing special about them and they only unlock the collectable panel. I'll stick to the little rosebush in a pot that I store on my sim's roof-covered porch. I am a little disappointed that Sulani's fish don't make better fertilizer... Most fish I catch are either in the 10-20$ range or over 100$. Using romantically gifted roses as fertilizer will never not be hilarious to me.
    I do spend a lot of time thinking about what would make the ideal small garden, in terms of good crops to have around for cooking higher quality food. Tomato is a good starter, but unfortunately it only grows wild in that one community garden in Oasis Springs.
    ...Edited because it just occurred to me that it would be *hilarious* if they added a special fertilizer mechanic in the Vampires DLC, since in reality bat guano is such an effective fertilizer for crops nations have literally fought wars over the right to mine it.

      @CarlsSimGuides  Před 4 lety +12

      I didn't go too far into the gardening career but yeah, just take it up on day 2 of your gardening ambitions. Give a little time for snapdragons etc. to spawn (or others depending on Season) then go for it. Search the hood, and if you have to rely on the seed packets to get the more valuable plants.. but I find it more enjoyable to try to hunt down the various plants, research them etc. Lean into those plants that are worth more than $15 or so before they are evolved, they will be worth more. The $2- 3 ones are just work + Xp. Remember the only major drawback to greenhouse is lower yield. Good luck.

  • @2CraftySeniors
    @2CraftySeniors Před 4 lety +11

    I love gardening and usually have my Sims have at least a small garden. Since I don't have Seasons (yet) the plants grow all year no matter what they are. I use the various flowers to decorate the property and put the other plants in groups, usually only having one or two plants of the vegetable or fruit varieties but lots of the various flowers.
    In my Legacy family I have them attempting to have at least one of each plant somewhere in their yard or greenhouse. The lot is one of the very big ones, so that will help to give enough room for them all. I used the lilies in the graveyard area to mark the graves... right now the headstones are decorative, but as the family dies off, I wanted a place to have them that I can lock if the rest of the family becomes too morbid. LOL

      Ebba Lytle I like to do it in my first generation - they have to go into space to get the space fruit, and some plants you can only get (in base game at least) by buying seed packets, but once a single household has everything, you just tell them to visit another household and plant one of each in their yard, or someone from the new household can visit the old one and take cuttings. For greenhouse I would use a gabbled roof and it would make the greenhouse look more greenhousish (its late, I couldn't think of a better word). I would also use the roof tools to make the roof rounded some and flatten it, but that is just what I do in my game. Always do what you think looks best. My last greenhouse I made was attached to my house and I used the windows from Moschino stuff pack and the base game glass door with a rounded gable roof flattened down some with a roof trim that goes to the edge of the wall. That is usually what I do and it looks good. Great video Carl, can't wait to see the rest of the guides :)
    One tip for Greenhouses...medium height walls are tall enough for trees, but you can also make a building with a foundation and raise it to make the roof the same height as a medium height wall and you can stick a tree in that greenhouse if you remove the floor from the room. Firmament foundation looks the best to do that with though, because it doesn't have that thick piece that sticks out. Anyway, hope I helped someone out :)

    • @CarlsSimGuides
      @CarlsSimGuides  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah good advice. It looks like a bad shed in a way.. and I couldn't use the short walls I wanted without lowering the entire manor's wall height. Wish those were separate!
      edit; Oh yeah - I wouldn't have been able to use trees in there with short walls. Good reminder!

    • @jmelovesGod
      @jmelovesGod Před 4 lety +2

      I wish they would separate the wall height like they have the foundation height separated, if the building isn't right next to each other that is. I hope with Sims 5 we can have split level floors without having to do what we do now with removing the floor. I think it is too late in Sims 4's lifespan to add that in Sims 4.
      What do you think they will do for the 20th anniversary of The Sims franchise or do you have a video planned talking about that?

      It would have made the game more fun and compelling to play. I find staying motivated to play in S4 a challenge all on its own. :/

    I would just like to add that you don't need planters to grow plants inside a Greenhouse. You can create a room, remove the floor and plant directly on the ground. If you create a building with two levels and remove the floor from the second level, you can even grow trees inside (I haven't tested with max height walls instead of a floorless second floor, but maybe that works too).

    Greenhouse doesn’t need walls. Just needs a roof above to cover the area (not glass roof is ok). So tiny house can have a big area of green house and also this doesn’t cost (when poor, walls are expensive). This makes plants sheltered.

    Greenhouse roofs no longer work properly for me. Usually they don't automatically remove the view of the ceiling from above or below unless I make a fence around the roof area.

    I got season and city living at the same time and so I decided to run an indoor garden in the city. They never got to be evolved even after 2 generations. I didn’t use the glass roof (was living in the apartments) but did use massive windows. As such, I dont think you need the glass roof to make a greenhouse, but that might also be why I never got to evolve any of my plants.

    I'm also pretty sure you can delete the floor in your greenhouse so you don't have to buy planter boxes. It can be kinda hard to get it right with either the plants telling you they can't be planted indoors or them being put in the household inventory if you make the room around them
