The Twilight Zone is my most favorite show of all time.
if ur a big tz fan check out the twilight highlight zone podcast and the twilight pwn podcast!
Welcome to another dimension =))
Mine too. Well, at least, it's my favorite 50's/60's TV show. Have you seen "The Six Millimeter Shrine?" if you haven't, you should. It's a great episode and has a heart warming ending. I also like, "The Midnight Sun."
Me Too
You should watch The X - Files (if you haven't already)
Get Smart should've at least been an honorable mention.
There could be lots of others too. Lost in Space, Flipper, etc.
@@Knaeben 10:00 was lost in space, but your right Flipper should be there.
Absolutely!
My dad used to watch these when he was a kid. Now he watches all of these on MeTV. It always makes him happy :)
Get Smart should be on this list, at least an honourable mention!! (I thought it was going to be #1) !!!
No love for Get Smart? That show's a classic!
But it was NOT funny or entertaining.
@@joemarshall4226 in its time it was
Star Trek, the Twilight Zone..superior masterpieces .
And how many of us can name the episodes they show the clips from?
I prefer Batman and bonanza

***** they mean the show reflects the time period or was hugely popular at the time and continues to have influence
yeah i know what you mean. personally thought this list was pretty good, but i guess its harder to gauge 00's.
completely agree. also when are they going post anything over 480p
The British import The Avengers from 65-68 w/Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee was near perfect and they hold up very well to this day.
I agree, although I always preferred The Avengers with Linda Thorson. I feel The Prisoner, Danger Man, The Saint plus others should also be mentioned. People still meet in Portmeirion for The Prisoner convention even today.
Bloody right! And The Invaders (A Quinn Martin production)! Wild Wild West. Man From U.N.CL.E.. Hawaii Five-0. The Prisoner. Outer Limits.
How can they not have "Get Smart"? It was witty, slapstick, was political and social satire, and is all-time favourite. Don Adams was classic in it, and 99 brought some glamour.
It was terrible. Don Adams was never funny, INHO, although the Chief and 99 were charming. They were spoofing the Espionage shows of the time: Mission: Impoosible, the Man From UNCLE, etc...those were good shows, I thought.....
Though Star Trek wasn't the most popular one, it definitely was the most influential on the list and my all time fave show.

I want to know if soap operas will included in one of these videos. I feel that there's a bias against daytime television. Also, I hope that General Hospital is on the 1980s list.
Top 10 Eyedea songs!!!
Alejandro Ram
That'll never happen bro.
EJ BOXING LIVE Yeah I know you'd think the Monsters would be in here.
Mr Ed.
And I can't think of another show that spawned as many popular catch phrases as Get Smart:
"Missed it by that much!"
"Sorry about that, Chief!"
"Don't tell me... I told you not to tell me that!"
"And loving it..."
"The old [so-and-so] trick."
Star Trek should have been number 1 or 2. Star Trek has led more Americans interest into science and space travel short of Moon landings.
Star Trek didn't get popular until the 1970s. nobody was watching it in the 60s
The Moon Landings should have been mentioned as a great fiction show.....
@@youtubeistryingtocensorme Science fiction fans were watching it in it's original prime time run. The same core crowd that followed The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, and to a lesser extent, One Step Beyond, Thriller, The Alfred Hitchcock Show... A massive letter writing campaign to NBC saved Trek from cancelation after its second season, producing Trek's third, and basically awful, final season. It's true, however, that Star Trek in reruns attracted a massive mainstream crowd that made it the legendary hit it's thought of today. Why that's so, has never been adequately explained. It may have been due to the rise of commercial UHF stations, and the fact Star Trek had only been off the air about a year when it started re-running on those stations.
@@williamanthony9090 alright you’ve convinced me
@@williamanthony9090, a little known fact about the write-in campaigns; *_all of them were paid for out of Gene Roddenberry's pocket_* .
Star Trek #5 ??
You're out of your Vulcan mind =))
Lol
Best Username ever. Kudos to you, sir!
As important as Star Trek: The Original Series was, it defined the 70's and 80's to a far greater degree. I have no doubt we'll see Star Trek: The Next Generation on the 80s or 90's list too.
You username and comment are both of epic win!
***** It wasn't that popular in the 60s
I can't believe Combat didn't make the list! it was one of the most popular shows of the 1960's.
Yeah, shows glorifying war were big...remember Garrison's Goriilas and Custer?
I don't think it ended up in syndication reruns like the others did.
This list made me think of TV when I stayed home sick. It was all the morning reruns on network TV in the 80's. I feel all nostalgic now.
I'm disappointed to not see The Munsters on the list but overall a pretty good list.
Addams Family is clearly superior.
I thought the Munsters were better than the Addams family, but the Addams family movies were great.
Nana Amuah
I agree it had many layers and meanings, and was slightly subversive. The Munsters were straight forward.
Nana Amuah I've always liked The Munsters more then Addams Family but both were pretty good and i guess it's a toss up to which one people like more as both are similar.
I agree with this. If "The Addams Family" is worth honorably mentioning, then "The Munsters" is as well.
How could you not include "The Prisoner?" That one was way ahead of its time.
Not many people know about that show, it seems.
The Flinstones was a cartoon version of Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners.
The Beverly Hillbillies was one of the first shows to launch successful spin-offs with Green Acres and Petticoat Junction.
The Carol Burnett Show probably should have made the top ten as Burnett helped pave the way for female leads in the decades to follow.
Finally, the cartoon Johnny Quest should have earned an honorable mention, as it also paved the way for more serious cartoons to follow.
Good points, all. I thought Green Acres and Petticoat Junction were better than The BHs...they had their moments, but they could really drag you dwon, too. Nacy Kulp was funny as the banker's secretary
As many viewers noted, Get Smart should have made the list. It was certainly a better show than Batman! It's interesting they included Star Trek, but as another viewer noted, Trek achieved most of it's fame in 1970's reruns. And what about The Outer Limits? That show was so shocking for it's era, that local television stations regularly censored its content to protect viewers from being too scared by its assortment of "monsters!" Although the original show only lasted two seasons, the 1990's version produced seven seasons.
@@williamanthony9090 Batman was way better than Get Smart. Don Adams was one of the worst actors ever in a tv series. Batman was hilarious, one of the great comedy/farce shows of all time, and a huge step forward in visuals on a tv show
@@joemarshall4226 - That's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it, but that doesn't necessarily make it so. Adam West was an awful actor. Anything he was ever in was dragged down by his lackluster performances.... EXCEPT Batman, where his terrible acting skills didn't matter. As for Batman the show... It certainly wasn't very well received by Batman comic book readers, who weren't wild about the "worlds greatest detective," a super hero almost as popular as Superman, being reduced to a zany, pathetic, parody, on ABC. It's also worth noting Get Smart had a longer run than Batman, although Batman was unique in that it ran two episodes a week its first two seasons.
@@williamanthony9090 Batman was camp humor, spoofing everythig that the comic book took seriously: over macho-crime fighters, government control lunatics, super-rich elite weirdos....it was just wonderful, and one of the best, and most original shows in tv history....like the Simpsons, it appealed to both kids and intellectuals. Everyone in Hollywood wanted to guest star on it, just like they do now on the Simpsons. Adam West was brilliant, with his understated performance, and his bizzarre masculinity.....Get Smart spoofed....what? Other secret agent shows, but it was typical borscht-belt 60s tv comedy, and had really nothing to offer. Don Adams was a decent stand-up comedian, but he was lost as an acting comic, despite the presence of The Chief and Barbara Feldon, who gave some life to one bad script after another.
Yeah, Star Trek was the sleeper. We didn't know how just damn good it was until it was rediscovered and appreciated in syndication. I mean, THAT CAST, THOSE STORIES! It's still ahead of our time. So, too: Speed Racer, the Prisoner, Outer Limits, The Invaders, Jonny Quest, Eighth Man, Gigantor, My Favorite Martian, The Fugitive, Gunsmoke, Man From U.N.CL.E., Wild Wild West, Danger Man, The Avengers, The Time Tunnel, Space Ghost (the original), Alfred Hitchcock, Columbo, Mannix, Hawaii Five-0, The Saint, Dark Shadows, Get Smart, The Monkees, I Spy, Flipper, Mr. Ed, It Takes a Thief, Top Cat, Password, Underdog, Chiller.
Any show from the 60's was better than today's .
I am so glad to see that The Andy Griffith Show made the list. Personally one of my favorite shows of all time and I am nowhere close to being born when it was originally released. I recently looked on the Rolling Stone Magazines list of 100 best T.V shows and noticed it was not on there.
They missed it...one of the best sit-coms ever
Holy crap, I remember posting this and watching it I just didnt know it was a year already. Thanks quarantine
What about the Avengers? It pretty much is 60s Britain personified.
That's the epitome of 60's London
Ahh, the Avengers. All I remember is that Diana Rigg was HOT! And they had some crazy, sometimes sci-fi-ish storylines.
Ahhh John steed and Emma peel my favourites
always pulled off with aplomb, style and class....
I agree, great writing and acting great comedy
That was cool! Thanks! I would have added some taken away some but loved the presentation
Haven't seen the list yet but Star Trek should be #1. All the predictions made in Star Trek (solely by sticking to the Science part of Sci-Fi) defined at least two decades of technology in which Star Wars fan is holding a form of predicted Star Trek tech :)
Per example : the first interracial kiss on TV. Hardly mentioned yet groundbreakingly trancending the brainwashed.
The Monkees? The Munsters?..also a show like Carol Burnett and actually Doctor Who really belong in the 1970's. When people think of Doctor Who, they 1st think of the Tom Baker period, hence Doctor Who was most "Decade Defining" in the 1970's, not 1960's. Also I would have included The Monkees over Batman. If you include Batman, you may as well include stuff like Dragnet and Get Smart frankly.
Everybody's tastes are different, and the 1960s was one hell of a decade for television. I don't agree with several of the shows included, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people wouldn't agree with mine. (Twilight Zone would be second, Star Trek would be first.)
The one show missing, The Fugitive.
The last episode was the highest rated episode at the time.
It beat the ratings when The Beatles made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
T.H.E. Cat, starring Robert Logia. The way ahead of its time forerunner to The Eqalizer. Only played for one season, but was a great show!
I love the Batman and Green Hornet Crossover episode
I thought the list was excellent. Thanks for giving I dream of Jeannie a honourable mention. Though people thought the series should be canceled after the 5th season, the season Tony and Jeannie married, I don’t think the series lost the comedy. It could have lasted longer. Get Smart was also a fine series, but I thought it dipped in the 3rd season - it got a bit repetitive.
Where the hell is The Monkees!?
I think, they mention very popular 60's
This is a great list. Andy Griffith and Twilight Zone REALLY deserve those top spots. Way to go, Watchmojo!
agreed
I'd suggest _Star Trek_ as number 1 simply because it's had more spin-offs, movies, comics, RPGs, computer games, and conventions than everything else on the list put together.
And as has been mentioned, _The Monkees_ should at least have been an honorable mention. The 50th Anniversary Tour is underway as we type.
No Get Smart or The Prisoner?
Yes! I loved get smart!
Missed it by that much
I watched every single one of those shows except Dr. Who, which wasn't on any of the channels we received. They left out Gun Smoke and the #1 show ever....The Munsters. Good list, brought back many fond memories.....Barbara Eden, Mary Tyler Moore and Elizabeth Montgomery were really hot!
Gomer Pyle Gun Smoke,Lost in Space , The Land of the giants, Get smart, Petticoat Junction, Lucy O Ball, Bonanza, Daniel Boone ,Green Acres, Car 56, Dragnet, The Munsters and Adams family and others
My favorite show from that decade is The Fugitive, which I've watched on reruns some years ago.
We loved The Fugitive!
Honorable mentions: Adam-12 and The Munsters and we cant forget The Brady Bunch
Brady bunch was in 70's
I would've added "Peyton Place"- America's FIRST primetime soap , and "Dark Shadows"- a daytime soap that went to become a cult classic, inspiring several feature films, fan conventions, endless merchandising and even a brief primetime remake in 1991 on NBC!!
Peyton Place was a real breakthrough...we were told not to watch it by our clergy!
well star trek went on to do something no other show has done because they made a 12 movies and then 6 different tv shows and had one of the few actors to keep working through the 60s
I was hoping My Favorite Martian would be on here. It DID create the whole "supernatural/extraterrestrial character living with me" sitcom.
ALF, Bewitched, and I Dream of Genie owe their existence to it.
didn't they get more popular in the 70s?
@@youtubeistryingtocensorme
Which is why My Favorite Martian should be on here.
Great list! I would also include Patrick McGoohan's "The Prisoner" as, at least, an honorable mention.
Absolutely....one of the best shows ever.....a real work of art....still can stun today...what a great actor he was......did you realize he played the king in Braveheart?
Duuuuude. The Prisoner is so classic!
Yes. Classic program about the enslavement of humanity by the A.I.-driven future.
BRAVE NEW WORLD.
I grew up in the 1980s in the Detroit area, which I consider to be the greatest time and place to be for media. Radio and television in that area was great back then. WXON and WKBD played 1950s and 60s shows all through their daytime schedule, so you could watch all of these back to back on days when you cut class. Which I did often, hating my school as much as I did.
all wonderful shows thank you for the upload
Thunderbirds should have been on the list. It's one of the best 60's TV show!
That was what I was expecting as well
It was more a British TV Series however It was all made of Puppets, I remember everyone I knew who grew up in that generation always talked about the Thunderbirds
***** How have you never heard of The Thunderbirds
***** Britain
***** I'm Australian ,I've heard of it.
Being that I was born in 1960, I'd have to say Hitchcock was just as defining as any TV in my childhood. That was where all my tantrums laid as it always came on at my bedtime.
They put Alfred Hitchcock Presents on their 1950s list.
10. Bewitched
9. The Fugitive (different)
8. The Beverly Hillbillies
7. Bonanza
6. Gunsmoke (different)
5. The Dick Van Dyke Show
4. The Andy Griffith Show
3. Doctor Who
2. Star Trek
1. The Twilight Zone
Honorable Mentions
Gilligan's Island
The Virginian (different)
The Man From UNCLE (different)
It Takes a Thief (different)
McHale's Navy (different)
The Addams Family
"Lost In Space" 1965-68, I loved the Robot!
The twilight zone is one of my favorite tv shows
What about The Monkees?
That was fun TV!
How about my mother the car ,that was a real hoot( not
My fam love the original Star Trek series, I got into Bewitched and I dream of Jeanie when I was 8 back then.
The Fugitive should have been on this list, probably #2 (I agree with the #1 choice) since it did have the biggest audience share of all time for it's two last episodes when Dr Kimble catches Johnson the one-arm man, with the help of Lt Gerard who had been his nemesis for four years. In my opinion The Fugitive set the tone for social justice topics of all 60's TV shows and put forth the quintessential American male role model: a man wrongly oppressed by society's mistake, who's mission is to right not only the wrong done to him and his wife, but who risks his own life and that mission to help his fellow man in time of need. Dr Richard Kimble was the all-time "Greatest American Hero".
Never got to watch it, wasn´t alive. Heard my Dad say it was great. Would like to see re-runs of it but have never seen it being re-run. Loved the 1993 movie though.
Absolutely,,,how could we forget? And Teh fugitive movie is one of the best films ever made, iMHO, but because it was a tv spin-off, people don't take it as seriously on its own merits
"I didn't kill my wife!" "I DON'T CARE!"
Twilight zone is my favorite show. I have watched every episode at least once. So glad it made number one. :)
What about the outer limits
Can't wait to see what the 70's TV shows are like!
The real number one T.V. show of the Sixties was, as any child could tell you, The Wonderful World of Disney!
And the Mickey Mouse Club !
@@christelheadington1136 More 50s than 60s.
A thing or two about Doctor Who.
If you ask me, I'd put it in the 70's defining shows list. With Jon Pertwee and the U.N.I.T years which was followed by the iconic duo of Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen as the 4th Doctor and Sarah-Jane Smith. While it was popular in the Patrick Troughton years after Dalekmania of the early Hartnell years, the show was facing cancellation after 3 seasons.
Cult following? Maybe in the classic era. Now the following is brimming with teenage girls who only watch because David Tennant and Matt Smith are hot, Rose Tyler exists, Donna Noble is sassy and they think it's cool to be a nerd girl. They say the classic era is too old to watch? Well get over it, the Doctor is a silly old man who plays the recorder, not a romantic heartthrob with ridiculous hair.
While I agree that they are annoying, I know plenty of young, female Doctor Who fans who DO watch it for the content. They see hot actors as a nice plus. Hopefully this transition in Peter Capaldi's Doctor will rid us of some of the fake fans.
Was a Silly old man and also WAS a "Romantic hearthrob" (I hated the later one)
Now? He's a Scottish arsehole. And it is GLORIOUS!
***** Oh my goodness I love Peter Capaldi. He works so well with Clara, and he's so refreshingly different from the last few seasons.
@@jupiterrocks24, why are these young teenage female fans 'fake' to you? And why is it you and everybody else has to bash teenage girls? Especially for liking David Tennant and Matt Smith?
She says "titular" how many times?
In every video. lol
If anyone missed, it (or interested), that was a very young Captain Kirk who thought he saw the man/gremlin on the airplane wing. The name of that particular Twilight Zone story is called Nightmare at 20,000 feet" I always thought Mr Shatner was a nice looking young man!
thanks to a good toupee......He is an amazing actor, IMHO.....the things they gave him to do on Star Trek were impossibly difficult, wrestling with invisible aliens, being taken over by invisible forces, fight scenes, love scenes, commanding scenes. He carved a truly believable character who just drew you along in those plots.....maybe the best tv actor ever...and he was great in the other shows and episodes he starred in as well.....
omg i love the twilight zone!! it reminds me of new years cuz theres always a marathon playing and its soo addicting!
So, will Doctor Who be on this twice? In this list, and in the 2000's list?
Probable mentions in the upcoming lists:
'70s- Wonder Woman, Charlie's Angels
'80s- Diff'rent Strokes, Star Trek Next Gen, Blackadder
'90s- Twin Peaks, X-Files, Friends, Seinfeld (I'd say Buffy is more early-2000s)
'00s- Sopranos, The Wire, Lost
'10s (so far)- Thrones, BrBa, Walking Dead (even though it's an awful show)
You can safely bet that Seinfeld will be #1 in the 90´s list.
Since we are talking about 'defining', to the 2000s I may add shows like South Park,Arrested Development, maybe battlestar gallactica, the office, scrubs. And even though I despise the later seasons of how I met your mother,it was quite popular during the later part of 2000s.
'90 - The Simpsons
Simpson's and Family Guy should be somewhere on these lists.
Cthulu1985 Not Necessarily Their is also The Simpsons and Friends which were huge in the 90's
I love the way I have seen every single show in this video. :)
Awesome list!
Top 10 Twilight zone episodes please!
Can Doctor Who be on multiple lists?
I think not.
Technically it should be on the list for the 1960's, 1970's 1980's 2000's and 2010's. The only list it can't be on is the 1990's.
Doctor Who Nerd Doctor Who's decline started in the 1980's. I wouldn't say it really...defined that decade.
***** The 'TV movie' was a failed attempt at a revival. ergo not a TV show.
Yetaxa I liked the TV movie
I think of The Carol Burnett Show as more of a 70's show than a 60's one.
Why? Didn't it come on the air during the 1965-1966 season?
Bill Anthony It started in 1967 and ended in 1978, so the majority of its episodes were set in the 70's. I also have some vague memories of watching some episodes in its later seasons. Those two reasons are why I consider the Carol Burnett Show more of a 70's show than a 60's show. : )
I dream of jeannie was one of my favourite shows when i was a kid, it made me dream of jeannies every night
Oh my God Television of the 1960s was soooo good. Nothing like it today and there never will be either !!!!!
where's Get Smart?
No Get Smart? I loved that show
The Spy genre was huge in the 1960s, so much so that most sit-coms would have at least one spy related episode. (The Flinstones, Gilligan's Island, The Patty Duke Show, The Adams Family, just to name a few). So there really should have been room made for Get Smart in the top ten list. Other shows in the genre were Man from U.N.C.L.E, The Avengers and Mission Impossible.
What about "Mod Squad"? (1968-1973)
It was good I thought, link wanted to let all the jailed people go.he would fit right in with the Democrats today
I was hoping Doctor Who would be #1 but I don't mind it being beaten by The Twilight Zone.
Great video loved it.
Honourable Mentions
Some more shows from outside US and Canada lol
I agree with this list! Very happy to see Twilight Zone and Andy Griffith. Two of my favorites!
These shows have stood the test of time, that's why I keep watching them 50 years later. sorry to say the modern stuff is bland and pretty much pointless.
With sitcoms, s
With sitcoms, many are using the same plots/gags as 50 yr.s ago. There a few good ones still.
How is Hogan's Heroes not on here? Not even an honorable mention!
My all time favorite, probably victim of the thought police, remember, they showed the swastika often
OMG I was literally sitting here at my computer hyperventilating at the fact that 9 spots went by with no Twilight Zone. SO glade it made number 1. FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME.
Good choice
You can't pick ten shows from that era and not leave a LOT out. Just not possible.
My first thought, too.
2000s number 1 will clearly be Breaking Bad
Premiered in 2008, didn't become popular until 2010s.
***** Game of Thrones began in 2011
Breaking Bad didn't define the 2000s..It didn't even have that many viewers in 2008 and 2009..Sopranos should be no.1 as it had a huge impact on future drama shows and Vince Gilligan himself
Sorry I did mean 2010 :D
I'm not agree. LOST should be 2000s number 1! ;)
I'm calling it "The Twilight Zone" will be number 1
My great-grandfather died when I was 3, so don't remember him hardly at all. But I'm told he always liked watching the Flintstones with me as a tyke, so Fred and the gang are a favorite of mine for that reason alone.
How are you doing?
I may of been born in 1088 but I watched these shows growing up, heck still love them.
The Munsters
Doctor Who not number one? It was at it's best in the 60's IMO.
Love these top10's
Great Countdown!
Where is THUNDERBIRDS
Get smart?
I was born in the 90´s but my granma always play Batman in TV and I love everthing in the show in special the onomatopoeia
Batman,
Star trek,
Doctor who,
The Andy Griffith show,
Lost in space,
Bewitched,
The Addams family,
The twilight zone.
Batman should not be corny. "shudders" The sixties. But, Carol Burnett is a legend! And I did like The Addams Family and The Twilight Zone.
Batman was great for what it was. What, do you think it was like the Schumacher movies?
actually batman should be corny in the 60s
since that is how he was in the comics at the time lol
"shudders" Schumacher sucks. Thank God he did not stay corny.
I just don't like campy things. I still prefer dark Batman. That is metal.
Hahahahaha!
My favs are Doctor Who, The Twilight Zone, Star Trek: The Original Series, Lost In Space, Bonanza, The Flintstones, The Addams Family, Gilligan’s Island
Sometimes, I think it should be called Mojo's top 15's. Great list, though, this is my favorite decade for television !
No Thunderbirds, Hogans Heroes or Get Smart?
Monty phyton flying circus?!!??!
I'm hoping for it to be in the 70s list instead
Although is started in 1969, "Monty Python's Flying Circus" made its smash it in the 70's.
Naythen Lowe
Similarly, I would have put the Carol Burnett Show on the 1970s list, and made sure that it was in the top 5. That show was classic!
I feel like it will be. The CBS was huge and had a huge impact on the comedy scene in the early 70s.
Just checked the "Top 10 Defining Shows of the 70's", and "Monty Python" came in at #5...
Damn you "M*A*S*H"...
Damn you...
Man, ALL of the honorable mentions should have made this list.
VERY happy to see Lost in Space as an honorable mention at least
Where is the Monkees?
jackhightston I agree with you where are The Monkees we won't Monkees.
You never know where they'll be found.
