Andy Griffith is undoubtedly one of if not the most remembered and or still remembered today out of the bunch in my poinion and my personal fav and this is from someone born in the 90's
Father Knows Best? Gomer Pyle? My Three Sons? Hogan's Heroes? Petticoat Junction? Hazel? That Girl? My Favorite Martian? Mister Ed? Mchale's Navy? Gilligan's Island?
Missing 'Your Show of Shows' with Sid Caesar. Not only did it have a great cast it's writers included Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Larry Gelbart, Neil Simon and Carl Reiner.
I had no idea the Jackie Gleason Show had such a short run. For the influence it had on television and pop culture, I assumed it had been around much longer.
It did not have a short run.....I hear this mistake all the time "The Honeymooners" was a sketch on the "Jackie Gleason Show"....starting in 1951.....in 1956 it became it's own half hour show....but at the end of 56 Gleason went back to a full hour format...and "The Honeymooners" continued as a short sketch..There are at least 112 segments.........
For once I agree with your list. The Dick Van Dyke Show and Lucy are the best! I like that you got Abbott and Costello and the Honeymooners remind me of the Flintstones.
I loved your choices. But..and there's always a but..lol I thought Burns and Allen would be there. Gracie was such a silly dim witted woman, I loved how she played that part. I had also thought Father knows best would have been mentioned.
My favorites (from the 20th century) 10 Father Knows Best 9 Bewitched 8 The Lone Ranger 7 I Love Lucy 6 Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C 5 The Cosby Show 4 The Dukes Of Hazzard 3 The Patty Duke Show 2 The Dick Van Dyke Show 1 The Andy Griffith Show
I don't think you could've put anyone else at Number one but "I Love Lucy." '"The Honeymooners does come awfully close, though. Kudos to WatchMojo for including Abbott and Costello and Donna Reed too.
My Favs 1. I love Lucy 2.Andy Griffith Show 3.Dick Vandyke 4.Honeymooners 5.Leave it to Beaver These are still all over TV today....this should tell you something...some of the others on your list can hardly be found anywhere anymore, though i'm sure during their time were award winning.
totally agree with " I Love Lucy " at #1 but where are Gilligan's Island, Hogan's Heroes, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and The Flintstones, yeah was a cartoon but it was prime time and aimed both kids and adults being basically and animated I Love Lucy on the stone age
I liked The Andy Griffith Show that was so funny Barney was funny nip it Andy nip it in the bud!!!!!!...lol..!!!!!!!....or Gomer Pyle said shazam!!!!!!!..or goooolleeeeeee!!!!!...wonder why All in the Family wasn't on this list I guess this was sitcoms of the '50s and '60s huh????!!!!!!
as part of its 60th anniversary TV Guide in its May 20th issue had a list of the 60 greatest comedies number 1 was I Love Lucy number 2 was All in the Family and the Andy Griffith Show was number 11...Dick Van Dyke was number 12 y'all agree with their list????!!!!!!!...oh and M*A*S*H* was number 7..and the Honeymooners was 4 behind Seinfeld at number 3
yes nothing against Lucy however she was funny...that was funny when she was stomping grapes or when Ricky said Lucy you got some 'splainin to do..lol!!!!!!!
+Caroline Murphy --- Because it wasn't shown on regular "Yankee" TV, you must be daft. Plus most British humor is too deep & too dry for us dull witted, beer swilling, American idiots, most of whom had to have the stale corn fed jokes on HEE-HAW explained to them... at least 3 times.
None of those were from the "classic" time period. I do love me some good Britcoms though; One Foot in the Grave. Yes, Prime Minister. The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (and Reggie Perrin). Till Death Do Us Part. To the Manor Born. Black Adder. Fawlty Towers. French Fields. 'Allo 'Allo. Open All Hours. Keeping Up Appearances. Last of the Summer Wine. As Time Goes By. Black Books. The Good Life (Good Neighbors). Waiting For God. My Family. Outnumbered. Damp Rising. All of these, (just the ones I remember off the top), were so much better than any of the best the US had, or has to offer. If it weren't for PBS I'd be so much less.
None taken - entirely a matter of opinion. As a matter of interest, are you American? I've always found British and American senses of humour very different, and sometimes Americans don't get British humour and vice-versa.
No, I don't agree with this list at all. Some of the sitcoms you've mentioned aren't too remembered today and aren't even in reruns. You should've including shows like The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and so forth. I don't even know anyone that even watches some of these shows anymore.
Wow! You're right! The addams family, the Beverly Hillbillies, and Giligan's Island were all made into movies, if I'm not mistaken. Some of those shows I had never EVER heard of!

All great shows. Still running reruns on MeTV.
Great list. Reminds me of when I was a kid. I loved watching the old shows. Now i'm off to scour Ebay for DVD collections.
hard to believe that the honeymooners only ran for one season
Only as it's own show....it was a sketch for many years..
The best comedy of the 60’s is “Hazel”
Father Knows Best? Gomer Pyle? My Three Sons? Hogan's Heroes? Petticoat Junction? Hazel? That Girl? My Favorite Martian? Mister Ed? Mchale's Navy? Gilligan's Island?
Yep. All great show's too.
I've watched every episode of all 10 plus every episode of all the shows that you mentioned, I'm running out of shows to watch.
I remember watching the Andy Griffith show with my pawpaw he's in heaven now and I miss him those are good memories
we often forget how funny they are i've never watched one but the few jokes i saw in here make me kinda look them up
All these shows are still on the air THEY ARE CLASSICS.....and are a great break from the TRASH we see today..
"Father Knows Best" and "The Andy Griffith Show" are my Favorites from the 50s then 60s.
Missing 'Your Show of Shows' with Sid Caesar. Not only did it have a great cast it's writers included Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Larry Gelbart, Neil Simon and Carl Reiner.

Heck, I remember when George Reeves was on [TV's Superman]
Nothing beats I love Lucy
For once I agree with your list. The Dick Van Dyke Show and Lucy are the best! I like that you got Abbott and Costello and the Honeymooners remind me of the Flintstones.

Was "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters" too late for this list?
The Honeymooners made spousal abuse hilarious.
I loved your choices. But..and there's always a but..lol I thought Burns and Allen would be there. Gracie was such a silly dim witted woman, I loved how she played that part. I had also thought Father knows best would have been mentioned.

My favourite one from that time is the adventures of Ozzie and Harriet but those are good to
Burns and Allen?
what about Bewitched
the andy grifith show should have been more higher
Don't know why you didn't put Three Stooges in there dude
i ♥ lucy
totally agree with " I Love Lucy " at #1 but where are Gilligan's Island, Hogan's Heroes, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and The Flintstones, yeah was a cartoon but it was prime time and aimed both kids and adults being basically and animated I Love Lucy on the stone age
they're diffent the three stooges or 5 stooges were shorts and this is a list tv show list
you cant have a golden age sitcom without a British one like Dad's Army or It ain't half hot mum.
yes I'm American I in Houston Texas ever been there????!!! or in Texas where there's a lot of cattle and cowboys????!!!!
Ozzie and Harriet deserves to be in the top 10.
To the moon Alice!!!
The Avengers
I'm starting to think some of these commenters 8 years ago didn't understand what golden age meant lmao
i would have put the honeymooners at number 1 and the andy griffith show at number 2.
Bullshit list without " All in The Family " come on now !!!! I am 55 and that show is #1 on many a list !!

Is All in the Family too late to be considered Golden Age?
At least The Donna Reed Show is on this list.
Andy Griffith should of been number one
yes nothing against Lucy however she was funny...that was funny when she was stomping grapes or when Ricky said Lucy you got some 'splainin to do..lol!!!!!!!
Why didn't you include any English comedy? On The Buses, Are You Being Served, Steptoe And Son and Dad's Army to name a few.

British ppl are too proper and sophisticated to be funny. Mr. Bean is literally the only exception.
ok
What about the Addams Family?
Rochester was NOT treated as an equal by either Jack or Mary.
Sure he was Jack didn't pay him as much as he didn't pay all the others..
#1 THE THREE STOOGES!!!!!!
three stooges, giligans island
@cooljoeny69 I'm with you , Honeymooner FTW
wheress dads army or porridge
Does Golden Age mean it has to be American? Because as an Aussie, I've always found that the Brits do comedy better than the Americans.
What about the Addams family
private pile? anyone?
No, I don't agree with this list at all. Some of the sitcoms you've mentioned aren't too remembered today and aren't even in reruns. Andy Griffith should be Number 1!
The Three Stooges doesn't count?
