I love how Peter Sellers is in three of the top ten. He was an amazing and hilarious actor.
I liked The Party and A Shot in the Dark. But to me, Sellers played a similar part in both pix. Plus, there was a lot of mishmash in both near the end, like he didn't know how to end the films.

Mr Rogers
Yes, everybody heard you the first time! :P
Tom Octopus I wanna make sure WatchMojo gets the memo. It's not like they read every last comment.
Mr Rogers
When you put it that way... Fair enough :P
well, no surprise, Peter Sellers holds 3 of the spots on this list. The man, the myth, the legend. He was pure genius.
...but only ONE Jerry Lewis flick? REALLY Mojo? What were you thinking? Lewis and Sellers could have, and should have locked this one up.
Well I for one think it is sad that even one Jerry Lewis film is on this list.
@@makinapacalLOL. Nutty Professor and It'$ Only Money(The dollar sign is not a typo)

top 10 funny cameos
Peter Sellers with the Hat Trick of movies. He was Brilliant I tell you, BRILLIANT!!!
Dr.Strangelove is one of the very few movies that the more I watched the more hilarious it gets its a natural number 1
How the hell did It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World get so low on the list?! Number 7 doesn't cut it!!
The Apartment is one of the most sophisticated and witty comedies of the time, and it will hold up pretty well against modern day comedies - and you put it under #9?! With slapstick put higher?! Ridiculous
Are generation doesn't find these comedies funny because we can't relate to it. The age gap causes problems
Papa stu We can't to relate to what? A film like the Apartment? If it's that what you mean then you probably haven't seen the film. It's a film about a boring, monotonous offfice job, cheating and adultery and love. It's held up brilliantly and would be appreciated by most modern audiences if only they were interested enough in cinema to even discover it.
Tom Waits spot on, man
Love your music, by the way ;)
The Apartment is my favourite comedy on this list. Its hella relate able.
Could someone explain to me why Shirley McLaine's character was so in love with Fred MacMurray's character? I never understood that.
Peter Sellers was a damn genius, I miss him!
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World should be higher.
I preferred Sellers in the Pink Panther films, I wasn't keen on Dr Strangelove. I loved It's a mad mad mad world and The Nutty Professor when I was growing up 😊
THANK YOU for putting my all time fave movie (both musical and non-musical) "The Producers" on the list!!! Thank you, too, for putting so many Mel Brooks movies on the lists.
I live The Party and The Pink Panther. They are some of my favorite comedies of all time. I own some of the sequels and lives watching the cartoon in the 90s. Favorite scene in Pink Panther is the old man trying to cross the street and everyone is chasing enough in the cars. The Apartment and Old Couple are good too.
One of the most underrated is the briliant blend of Hitchcockian thriller/action film/espionage film and romantic comedy called Charade starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (and also Walter Matthau and James Coburn). Pity it didn't make the list, but great to see the Producers get some major credit. Mel Brooks' funniest film.
Hmmm I saw Charade is on Netflix, may check it out.
Hmmm I saw Charade is on Netflix, may check it out.
Amen. Charade is a fantastic film
Pls tell me this is the actual Tom Waits?
Trevor Fawver He'd have more than 28 subscribers, lol.
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is the funniest of them all by a mile. I've seen all of these great films more than 10 times. The REAL list- 1. Mad World 2. The Graduate 3. The Producers 4. Dr Strangelove 5. The Odd Couple 6. The Pink Panther 7. The Party 8. The Nutty Professor 9. The Apt. 10 . Bedazzled
The Odd Couple is, in my opinion, the funniest comedy EVER. Every time watch it i still laugh out loud.
May I just say, watchmojo, that your number 1 choice was perfect. Spot on. A Bullseye. Spectacular. You know, all that good stuff.
I could add: Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, The Great Race, After the Fox, The Wrong Box, The Russians are Coming, and many more.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb isn't just the best comedy of the 60s, but the best comedy of all time!
Agree
Yeah
1. Dr Strangelove, I'm calling it.
sweg
becuase its not like you can just watch the video and then comment
Jacques Tati's "PlayTime" is the number one in my opinion
Your list is okay, but mine would be more like this:
The Ladies Man - Jerry Lewis
The Bellboy - Jerry Lewis
Cinderfella - Jerry Lewis
The Disorderly Orderly - Jerry Lewis
Etc etc etc. I only wish I had grown up in his time, that man is an absolute genius! SO funny, and adorable ^3^
Missing from this list:
The Great Race, one of my all time favorite movies
The Bellboy, a WAAAAY better Lewis vehicle than Nutty Professor
Donovan's Reef, a personal favorite of mine
A Hard Days Night, "Hey mister can we have our ball back?"
Support Your Local Sheriff
Whats Up Tiger Lily?
The Italian Job, "Your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
I would put most of these way over The Graduate, which to me is much more a drama than comedy.
Playtime is also neglected
Donovan's Reef was a great movie, and it was a comedy, but it wasn't a great comedy.
the Nutty professor is a funny version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
very good actor to play 2 totally different roles
Dr. Strangelove is possibly my favorite movie of all time
My favorite is it's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
My favorite part of Dr. Strangelove was George C Scott tripping backwards while ranting -you know that was a flub that they just kept in the movie but it was hilarious!
No A Hard Days Night? I guess 99 over 100 on Metacritic doesn't mean nothing :(
I laughed a lot in that movie that is why i love The Beatles
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the WAR room" =))
"Gentlemen you can't fight in here, this is the war room!" Was there ever any doubt about the N°1 spot? I don't think so.
Loved #7 and #2, but what happened to all the classic disney comedies like That Darn Cat, The Happiest Millionaire, and Blackbeard's Ghost?
It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World is like my favorite
Movie of all time
Mine too!
Sellers was the best.
Hell yeah... many good ones back then. Pretty pathetic that what's been considered funny over the past few decades has been nothing but cliches and toilet humor.
nice list
The graduate is a comedy i didnt know that
Why everybody forgets about Norman Wisdom comedies? :(..and Luis de Funes :P
At the very very end when he finishes the 'next twenty years' line, you can hear some of the cast laughing.
graduate a comedy? thats a massive laugh
My uncle was briefly in mad mad mad mad world.
Dammit, A Hard Day's Night should've been there, in the top five.
You know, I understand the Pink Panther being in there, but its A Shot in the Dark thats the clear winner here. Its a Clouseau-centric film, full-stop, and one of the funniest slapstic films of all time.
I don't see how 'The Graduate' is a comedy. The way Mojo describes it, it is just funny now because it seem campy. I don't think the producers and director set out to do a comedy, nor was it one at the time. But that is my thought.
It's listed as a comedy-drama, but I'm really surprised it made this list at all. I do remember it had be best soundtrack (Simon and Garfunkel).
I never found it funny. It was more sadly awkward at best.
Yeah The Graduate is good, but definitely not a comedy.
Yeah The Graduate is good, but definitely not a comedy.
Therealhatepotion I only find it funny when the film was made fun of in 'Wayne's World 2' "Oh Jesus, God no!" Just thinking about it makes me laugh.
Casino Royale and What's new Pussy Cat were equally huge. Munsters the Movie .. Ghost and Mr. Chicken and especially The Fastest Gun in the West, Muscle Beach Party deserves honorable mention. How about Kelly's Heroes??
This absolutely gets it right! The only one that's missing is "A Hard Day's Night."
You forgot "A Hard Day's Night"
1-Dr Strangelove 2-The Odd Couple 3-The Fortune Cookie 4-The Producers
Add in Barefoot in the Park and The Fortune Cookie, but don't take anything out. Hell, just make this one a top 12 list.
Bedazzled was pure HORSE MANURE.The Apartment, one of my favorites. The Producers was a RIOT. Should b in the top 3 of the decade. Graduate hilarious at times too.
This list is half right , and the great race where jack lemmon plays more then one roll and one two three should be on here with james cagney. Graduate is a drama , bedtime story with david niven
And marlin brando would be good on this list
Top 10 hardest songs to sing
Number 1 is Dr. Strangelove? Well who wouldn't have seen that one coming??
The idea that The Graduate is a comedy is absurd.
1. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (best flying stunt ever)
2. The Pink Panther
3. A Shot in the Dark
4. Doctor Strangelove
The rest of the Mojo list.
Honorable mentions: Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, Oh! What a Lovely War
It's a mad mad mad mad world definitely deserves higher
The ladder scene where everyone falls from great height alone is freaking brilliant
Although the new Pink Panther movies with Steve Martin are absolutely horrid, the originals with Peter Sellers are amazing. "That piano was priceless!" "Not anymore"
The acting in (Dr.Stranglove ) was incredible. But i can't see why is it so great
It's a great movie. There's no reason behind it.
are you kidding?
Top 10 hardest songs to sing!
No Louis de Funes' films ?
Each of these lists seems to have one actor who shows up again and again. For the 40's it was Cary Grant. For the 50's it was Audrey Hepburn. And for the 60's it's Peter Sellers.
What about "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum?" That film is great!
Ditto.
Ones I recall:
The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964)
Who's Minding the Mint? (1967)
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969)
Back when comedies were good enough to win Oscars.
Based on your character i never knew you liked comedies
Harry Banova I guess everyone likes a good joke.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966)
It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World is the greatest movie of all time
"Where's Major Kong?!" - "He's on board that nuke that's about to drop, if ya wanna tag along".
I love Peter Sellers 🤣
None on this list holds a candle to It's a mad, mad, mad world.
3 I think belong on the list: "The President's Analyst", "Lover Come Back" , and "Smashing Time".
Oh come on. Not even an honorable mention for The Great Race? It's got Jack Lemmon! So funny.... :)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang(1968) should be on the list.
Not a P Sellers fan but I did laugh at Cactus Flower, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and A Hard Days Night.
It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World is the greatest movie of all time
Bedazzled is on the list. I'm happy now.
I have a feeling that the 70's list will be dominated by Mel Brooks films.
Brooks only did five movies in the '70s, and only two of them are commonly recognized as great (Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein). That's not bad, but there will still be room for other films.
The original nutty professor is so much better than the remakes...
no it wasn't....
Hey, hey! Opinions, opinions. We all have opinions here.
The Remake did win a Oscar. So now it has competition!
it's a mad mad mad mad world is the best comedic film from the 60's and should have been #1 I mean you had all the best funny people from that decade in one film
Blazing Saddles better be number 1 tomorrow.
Damn it. My clock is 58 seconds too slow.
The original Nutty Professor is no doubt a better quality movie than the remake with Murphy, I'm more divided on Bedazzled but it's maybe because I saw the remake multiple times before seeing the original few years ago...
You guys need to watch La grande vadrouille with Louis de Funes, Bourvil and Terry Thomas. I laugh with tears every time I watch it. It's a British/French movie. The American title is Don't look now... we're being shot at!
I'm surprised "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" wasn't on here.
The Shakiest Gun In the West (Don Knotts)
The 60's simpler time in life. Wish it was like that again.
Peter Sellers was a genius....
Unless I have the wrong decade...."Good Neighbour Sam" with Jack Lemon, Louis Nye, Edward G Robinson, etc. Loved Sellers in the Panther movies and Cook and Moore.
Apparently, it's Peter Sellers for the win.
alltime genius Peter Sellers
Top 10 Twin Peaks characters.
i´d have loved to see charade near top of that list.
Take a look at "one, Two, Three" starring Jimmy Cagney. "Setzen Machen!!!!"
Okay. "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" better be somewhere on this list, or I will send Jonathan Winters to take care of them. We all saw what he did to that gas station.
No Hard Days Night, Help, or The Love Bug (the highest grossing movie of 1969)? Shame...
Lover Come Back, what a way to go, one, two, three, Sunday in New York. All missing.
My favorite is A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, from 1966. If you like Zero Mostel, this is a can't miss. He is much better in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum than The Producers.
Watch Mojo do top 10 best ron burgdany moments
all the pink panther movies
No mention of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum?
rowan aktinson was twelve in that movie! :O
Which movie is the one in the thumbnail?
Dr Strangelove is my all time favourite movie. I would put the Producers in second here and Take the Money and Run should have been in the top ten. A Shot in the Dark I think is better than the Pink Panther IMO
1. Dr Strangelove or (How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) 2. the Apartment (1960) 3. the Sweet Life (1961) 4. the Pink Panther (1963) 5. Kidnapping Caucasian Style (1967) 6. the Producers (1968) 7. the Nutty Professor (1963) 8. Breakfast at Tiffanys (1961) 9. Make Mine Mink (1960) 10. the Party (1968)
I have not seen the video yet. But I'm here to say that if "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is not high up on the list, then that's it. Everybody dies.
Well, I guess 7 is okay...
Mad World is by far the funniest movies of the 60's....
0=Axel=0 I don't agree. It deserves a much higher spot.
realar
Well, getting 7 on this list is better than getting 8.
Still too low.
