  • There is no 8gb ram limitation! As long as you get ram that is brand name and spec matched, even the 2010 model will support 16gb with GREAT speed gains!

    thanks dude - just upgraded Mid 2010 13" MBP to 2TB SSD & 16GB RAM - awesome....makes such a difference. Ended up using Time Machine backup to restore Mac OS, and whilst probs not the most efficient way to go about it, a small price to pay for insane speed now. Works like a charm! Thanks heaps dude - very helpful

    you need to plug your old drive into an external case (usb) and then you can "clone" it using disk utility off your mac boot cd, to the new drive.
    Step 1: install new drive, and old drive into usb case. insert mac bood cd dvd. turn computer on hold c. let it boot from the cd.
    step 2: open disc utility, and format and partition your new drive like you want
    step 3: use disc utility tools to make a copy of your drive ( i made more partitions and cloned mac hdd and my boot camp seperately)

    To the doubters, I have this same Macbook Pro running 16GB RAM and it works perfectly. Next to my new battery replacement, the easiest money I have spent on my Mac that has yielded the most results. SSD next. (when I get some free $$$, about a month). Good job on the vid...

    As long as you get the owc kit, i can say 100% zero issues. Its been what a month now? my lappy is on 24/7 with sleep mode in between, restarts etc, never locked up, never froze both in windows and mac os. I highly recommend!

    Any mid-2010 MacBook Pro i5 or i7 is limited to a maximum of 8GB RAM. If you have a 2010 MacBook Pro Core2Duo (13"), then you are in luck and you can upgrade to 16GB RAM. The type of RAM needed is DDR3 PC3-8500 1066.

    the reason why you want matching ram sticks is for dual channel. Believe me it very noticable when dual channel is not running. Much slower system response

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 10 lety

    the 13" mid 2010 runs mavericks + this upgrade perfectly. It was the efi update that enabled support. Unless they release another efi, there is no fear of it not working.

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 11 lety

    You have the EXACT same computer I have in the video. Watch out for low end ram, it doesn't work. As long as its a good brand name , it should work perfectly. The main reason why i went with OWC was because it was tested. If it was local at a store I would of probably gotten a cheaper kit.

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 11 lety

    yes, no doubt but when you put in 10gb mixed ram for example vs a dual channel 16gb the speed difference is very noticeable!
    I believe your machine is identical other then cpu clockspeed, so as long as its identified as a 7,1 the kit WILL work.

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 11 lety

    Not yet, Its EFI blocked from supporting it by apple. Its been tested by others already. The weird part is that that it WILL support it in SAFEMODE, but on full boot it will kernel panic...
    If you are ok with running in safemode, then it will work.
    AS for the 2010 c2d 13", apple released a EFI update to fix some issues and accidentally enabled 16gb :D

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 11 lety

    It should recalibrate. See I found the original drive was louder. Heat? not sure, I always run the fan on max. Don't go back to 5400, once the drive settles and organizes parts into the ssd partition itself, you will see a massive speed boost. Can't go back after that!

  • @mi16t
    @mi16t  Před 11 lety

    The only thing you need to do is update your efi. DO NOT buy cheap ram. I BET that 8gb kit you have is not messed up, but its not compatible either. I had the same issue with the first cheap 16gb kit i bought. Worked fine with either a 4gb or 2gb module mixed in. Kernel panic and windows blue screen of death with two 8gb dimms. As for hdd, i am using a hybrid ssd 7200 rpm drive with 32mb cache and 8gb ssd. Highly recommend it over a small ssd and no optical. the OWC 16gb kit will work in yours.

    Mine is MBP 6.1 identifier 2.53ghz i5 17" 2010 model, and I do not think it is possible to upgrade to 16gb of Ram from 8gb I already have.
    It probably would take 16gb if I had a higher identifier.

    Won't this overload the processor? I put a 480 GB Intel SSD and 8 GB of Corsair Mac Memory in mine and it runs pretty well. I was tempted to do a striped RAID array with a second drive but the guy in the shop advised me not to. I suspect it might be the same for RAM. I don't want to blow the little bastard up - not when it's running well now with macOS Sierra.

Or should I just get 8GB (2x4GB) for half the price? Money is not an issue, but I don't like spending on things I'm not gonna use.

    Will this improve my fps in a game (cs:go) at all? If not does anyone know any better options to get a fps boost on a MacBook Pro mid 2010 like the one in the video?

    Hi again, by upgrading the RAM and OS X to Mavericks not necessary allows you to use the airplay feature for this particular MBP model right? Thanks.

      Ram has nothing to do with airplay.

    does the OS matter? i have a mid 2010 13" macbook pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running snow leopard 10.6.8 my original 4gb of ram is not enough i decided to go with the 'limit' 8gb but one ram module was messed up so right now im using one original 2gb module with one 4gb module. they say thats not really good but its faster than 4gb. i would do the upgrade if 16gb worked with mine. im also thinking about removing my optical drive and getting a 128 or 256 gb ssd to go with my 1tb hdd

    I have this MBP, 13.3", 7,1 , A1278, Core2Duo. 4 GB (2+2), 1066MHz. A seller told me if he installs a 8GB 1333MHz and leave the original 2GB 1066MHz, it does work and I'll have 10 GB of RAM. The 1333MHz is much cheaper these days. Any one can confirm if I mix the 1333 MHz and the 1066 could work? Thanks!

    hey, thanks for the vid! but do you know, if that has something to do with the osx version you are using? i am using 2 ssds in my mid 2010 13' model, one with yosemite and the other with snow leopard and would like to keep it like that... so the rumor was that more than 4 gb only works with lion, or newer!?

      +srdjankuz According to this website, yes, you would need to run at least OS X 10.7.5: www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/macbook-pro-unibody-faq/macbook-pro-13-15-17-mid-2009-how-to-upgrade-ram-memory.html
