O boot do mac não mudou tanto, mas os renders e o uso dos plugins ficaram ótimos. Tbm agilizou a placa de áudio externa que uso pra captação. Tmj.

The video worked for me. One point to make. Try and find a well fitting phillips head screw driver. You do not want to strip a screw head. Second, my MacBook Pro (early 2011) screws had a liberal amount of thread locker that had been applied to the screws. It was a little nerve racking to break the screws loose, the first time. FWIW, I also replaced my HDD with an SSD, for a couple of reasons. There are 4 short stubs that are fitted to the side rails of the HDD. These need to be removed and transferred to the replacement SSD. NOTE. The screw head on these stubs required a #6 - Torx screw driver. This is really small. I had a torx multi-tool that did go down to #6. Fortunate for me. I could have improvised a way to remove the stubs, but the #6 torx tool is the proper way to do it, for my make/model machine.

    Hey Justin,
Thanks for taking the time to post this video. It's very helpful. I have the exact same computer and I've found the exact same RAM (I think). I'm really tempted to buy it and upgrade the RAM but I'm scared of one thing. A lot of reviews I read on the sellers website talk about how it doesn't work, or worse yet, how the RAM fails after a year of use or so. This video is three years old now, so I would like to know, how long did the RAM in this laptop last for?

There are a couple of things in my video that help show how the memory lines up in the slots with the plastic retaining clips. Also it's good to note that the front 4 and 2 side screws go in at a slight angle to help prevent stripping! :)

One thing that should be advertised is the discharge of power. And grounding yourself by touching some metallic point on the computer. I thought you did that but I don't remember. My main concern is that the battery still feeds power and while its safe to assume the power release is minimal, you may want to advertise the dangers of replacing RAM with a powered system.

  • @rhymeister

Just an FYI, whenever you are tightening screws do not tighten them down all the way on one side first. Start them all over then rotate as you tighten, i.e. as in this example, tighten down one the way at 12 o'oclock then one at 6 then 3, then 9, back to 12, etc. Just like you would a car wheel. ; )

I'm not sure if the ID based Crucial has offices in CA, but Corsair, based in DE has an office in CA pretty close to Apple so they send their RAM to Apple for testing. Therefore Corsair is another considerable brand. Kingston is completely CA based so I guess it sends RAM to Apple although I have no idea. Corsair proclaimed that they get Apple to test the RAM if you buy the (surprisingly cheaper than standard branding) "Mac Memory" branded version on the back of its packaging.

I would never recommend placing your computer on a carpeted surface for repairs. That's just asking for ESD issues. Unless you know your surface is made to be ESD free, then you have reason for concern. At the PC manufacturer I worked for we always would scrub any contacts with an ink eraser or spray the contacts with contact cleaner. Best way to ground yourself is to grab the chassis of the system you're working on. If you a touching the metal chassis, you are the same charge of the system and stand little to no risk of zapping sensitive circuitry.

The best RAM is cheap and has a good rating. The max is 16gb but, I would recommend no more than 8(2 x 4gb) for the non professional. I have a 2011 15 inch macbook pro and 8 gb when you are skyping, watching a video, and using photoshop really comes in handy. Just make sure it is 1600mhz DDR3 SDRAM :)

If you don‘t mind me asking 11 years later, why would you recommend 8gb over 16?

Dat slowing down Darude Sandstorm doe
btw i remember trying to fix a macbook with a data doubler. tried sticking a dvd into it, wont go in. take apart and see the problem.
Warranty of that laptop was instantly voided and the owner had to be charged for it and also had to get the optical drive reinstalled before i could work on it.

Depends on what you use it for, but generally speaking: yes.
