Thanks for watching!
Randy's smile at 11:24... he's so proud of his fan, I love it!
He's a smart guy and knowing so much electrical stuff is a huge bonus.
for those of you saying "too complicated, or would be easier in an RV." Think of it this way, many times in nomad life, part of the fun is bucking the system, not buying an RV but building one. As for complicated, sometimes using your ingenuity makes you feel like you defeated something or a system. Also the fun in being a nomad is passing time by doing these things. It may take time to set up a shower or a solar system to both vehicles, but passing time doing something vs watching TV or just withering away in a chair.
Dave & Muppy RV & Vlog Channel, besides- everyone is different! What is overly complicated to one is actually simplified for other reasons to another. Randy’s problem-solving and ingenuity is inspiring! People are just so stuck in themselves :)
A cargo trailer gives more efficient use of space & available weight value.
AMEN, Dave
Yep. Plus totally custom. Yoy can make it your own. You can get more for less weight.
The problem with Cargo Trailers is that they are so expensive compared to an older camper that might need a a little maintanance. 5 years ago I bought a 16' 1973 Shasta Camper for $40 at an Estate Auction. We live in Jacksonville beach and both have Show cars and travel 2-3 weekends to shows to Savanah, Pensacola, Daytona and Tampa, we even go to Miami a couple times a year, and we've been to Montgomery and New Orleans when were on vacation, go to a show and we'll just spend the week. The other reason people say "It's too complicated" is because they just go off the deep end and go all at once, We started slow, I took us 2 weeks to gut and rebuild, including tearing out and rebuilding the rear wall which is where we moved our door too btw and completely flipped the floor plan. We started out with just the bare minimum,, basically a bed a kitchette, including one of those small college dorm style refridgerator and a microwave and spending weekends at state parks while we were attending car shows and we have added on to what we need to live in it at longer periods of time. We now have one of those 9 function Air Fryers that does Air Frying, Convection oven, Broil, Bake, Toast, Dehydrate, Keep Warm, Rotisserie, One-Touch Fries, microwave and 3/4 refrigerator that I bought from an appliance wholesale warehouse for $100 because it had a scratch on the side because that small fridge just wasn't cutting it, on our week long trips we have to go to the store atleast 4 times in that 9 days. At the end of this years car show season were going to buy one of those solar set-ups at Harbor Freight with the money that we save from not going to hotels. We don't need nor want a bathroom because we stay at state parks and they always have bathroom and shower facilities. We are planning on living the Nomad life when we both retire in 3 and half years floating from state park to state park between Missouri where I'm from and New Mexico where my Gf is from. My point to this long winded comment is take it a step at a time and figure out what works best for you and your situation and don't just jump in with both feet.
I am so impressed with Randy. Thought and ingenuity went in to every detail. And it looks great, too. Randy you rock!
This is a very interesting guy. I like to just watch him talk about his rigs, and how he smiles when he explains something he loves, and his hand gestures are mesmerizing.
Hither'n'Yon lol
I think you have a crush lol
I agree.
Randy, you are a genius. I admire the way you fearlessly take on any project.
Randy is a REAL SMART guy !!! He did all the right things, but still "customized" his trailer to BEST suit his own needs :) :) :) :) Hats OFF to Randy !!
I'm new to the ideas but I see great possibilities and it is a comforting to see what can be done. My question is this what seizes do the cargo trailers come in thus far I seen, though video, I believe it was a 10'x6' cargo trailer, and believe this one is 17'x6'???.... so what are the different lengths and widths? Also what size vehicle will it take to haul the different sizes of trailers. Thank you in advance!
@@karend.cureton-gordon6731 the nice thing about a trailer you don't have to have insurance on it, in Most states a one-time license plate fee and in a few states no tax. And these pull-behind basic trailers hold their value far better. speaking of interior inside dimensions for instance mine is 8 foot wide inside by 32 foot long mostly stripped down enclosed race car trailer. It's 8.5 wide outside And it's about 76 or 77 in tall with a unfinished ceiling right now. And my payload is 10,800 pounds. Payload is what you can haul inside the trailer. I think the one in this video was 7 ft wide by 16 ft long with about 76 or 77 Inch Tall and a gross weight of 7,000 pounds and pay load im guessing is around 4,000 pounds or a little more. Payload is everything you haul - add in the trailer cabinets bed water Etc and you subtract from the payload weight. Or if you don't want to do that weigh it at one of the scales I mentioned for free so you're not overloaded and possibly tearing up things. I think they make a 6-foot wide x 10 foot long inside dimensions enclosed single axle cargo trailer. They generally make trailers in equal lengths for instance 8 foot long, 10 foot long, 12 foot long 14 foot and 16 foot single and double axles. And these single and double axle up to 16 ft links are generally 3000 lb gross single axle and the double axle is generally 7000 pounds gross weight. Then there all usually 8 foot wide inside x 18 foot long - 36 foot long bumper pull trailers and past that all the way through 52 ft long gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers. And these trailers a 4-cylinder all the way through a dually diesel and more can pull these trailers. Also depending on the gross weight, what you plan to tow with and how often you plan to pull it is what I would keep in mind too. Most landfills and rock quarries don't charge anything to weigh your truck and then weigh the truck and trailer together to get your figures and subtract to get your trailer weight. Just tell the scale you don't need a ticket and generally they don't charge anything. But don't go to the Department of Transportation scales that can be sheer Terror fines and harassment. Because you don't want to be overloaded it can lead to hard to steer - control, flat tires, not stopping, wheel bearings going out, more problems and even possibly Wrecking.
Randy is an amazing, imaginative, creative, capable, smart, man. Thanks Randy for sharing your vast knowledge & know-how with us. And thank you, Bob, for doing this interview.
I have respect for people who live like this.
Great video. Randy, you've the hands of an artist, the mind of a scientist, the presence of a bard. Great work, gentlemen.
Great video..Very impressive! Randy has done a fantastic job with converting this basic trailer into a useable, livable space. One of the best I’ve seen.
A very smart man. That would be one person to meet and just talk to.
He's so ingenious. I love the driveway security system and the second fan system. Great job. Can't wait to see the washing machine video!
That bucket water heater is awesome!
I love Randy's setup. He can sleep in the van or have a home base in the Cargo Trailer. He has it all figured out.
It's awesome Bob lead the way to making it acceptable for people to live in a dignified alternative way
Super bright guy. Totally impressed with his creative ideas and talent. Happy travels Randy.
Outstanding job done by Randy on both his van and trailer. I find his set up to be the most interesting one that I have seen yet.
He sure had fun creating his space. I admire his setup.
Love this, I have a 7x16" cargo trailer. Not as well organized, but I have all the solar I could ever need. 4-6volt batteries made into 1-12volt supply with a 110volt inverter. 55gallon drum for water, collecting old Travel trailer parts. One piece at a time.
I have a 31ft dutchman in rough condition. I bought it a a doner trailer to build mine. I want to use the frame, shorten it to about 20ft and build my own trailer. Already got everything in the trailer, stove/oven, sinks and fixtures, refrig, even a big shower. The 31ft weighs over 9000lbs so it got heavy frame and axles. Even got new edpm roof ready to install. I just need to get to it, its slow recovering from BEATING stage 3 lung cancer Nd my house will be paid for in 4yrs. Good time to go see what all this country can show me, lol.....I had thought of a bus conversion but with a trailer I can pull it with my pick up and have the truck for day trips out sightseeing....yappers, that's the plan......
Looks like Randy's got it Dead on all he needs is a wireless camera system and he's got it totally covered on my cargo trailer I have the 4 wireless cameras and I also have the same driveway alert system he has at least in the middle of the night with the night vision on the cameras I can see what's out there good job Randy
Man he has a complete rig in the van and in the trailer. That should be enough room. I like the washing machine. thanks for sharing with us
I know I am watching a year late.
Please pass my thanks to Randy for sharing his ingenuity with the rest of us. Giving many, many great ideas.
So much knowledge and talent, it's inspiring but not readily imitable. I'm in awe.
Randy is a Nomad Guru, total genius.
I really like the video with Randy and how he has made for himself two options for living. I am still stuck in a house trying to decide how I want to live once I sell it. I still have to work because I am only 62 and have some bills to pay off before I can move forward with the rest of my life.
I appreciate your videos showing so many options to choose from. Thanks so much.
You are herby called 'Handy Randy'
Great job and I liked all your ideas. Gonna get started on my own cargo trailer set up.
This guy is a power genius for all his comforts. I can see the pride he has for all his inventions!!! I think he should be a mobile electrical technician for RV living. He clearly has a skill he could make a living off.
He's one of those guys I have witnessed in the workplace that can build anything and fix anything, Mastermind.
I'd like to see how MacGyver is doing these days. What an unassuming genius!
Nice guy, lots of great ideas, very functional. He has a knowledge of electricity that I don’t have. I’d struggle with the DIY project. Loved the security system and everything else I must say.
i dont comment on many videos but i just like to say you are the real deal sir. damn i wish i had time and actual motivation to be like you. my hero. this is awesome and has made my soul happy.
I have one of the same portable washer in my apartment and I love it it works great it almost spins the clothes dry I hang them up for about a half hour to 45 min and there dry....

He's certainly a handy guy.
He is very thorough to say the very least.
Security? I'm gettin a prepper vibe...
Prepper? Not really and the guy has been around. I have lived and experienced life in very remote areas. If there's trouble, the Police are not going to be there quickly.
Randy needs to sell that mini hot water heater. He is such a smart guy.
LOTS of cool ideas here! Thanks so much Randy!
Bob I hope ya interview Randy in 6 months to see if he's come up with another ingenious ideas 🤪

Wow! Except for the placement of his propane tank (that kind of scares me), his whole set up is amazing, and he did such a great job talking the viewers through the nuts-n-bolts of his build.
