  • The 2016-2017 Football League season could prove a historic one for Leyton Orient, just not in the way their fans would want. The O’s currently sit bottom of League 2 - nine points from potential safety. If things remain that way, Orient will end a 112 year stay in the Football League. This video explains how the club have ended up in their current position.

    Even as a 18 Blackburn fan, my clubs run terrible but this is a sad story. Leyton Orient is a club that I like. Becchetti is an absolute coward. Hope Orient survive financial trouble and get fan ownership. From possible promotion to the national league in space of 3 seasons. Disgrace

    Even as a Sunderland fan with our situation being very bad I feel for Leyton Orient. Until recently I didn't feel that there were many if any clubs that had it worse than us but this disproves me completely even though I still feel as a club we should be doing much better than we've bothered to do for the last five years. Likewise there'll be plenty of clubs in football league who have it worse than us!

    The previous owner's xenophobia pushed them into a panic situation. Firstly: cheaper and/or better foreign players would have improved them; secondly: he probably only looked at foreign buyers when he didn't have much time left.

    • @StoneColdMan2294
      @StoneColdMan2294 Před 6 lety +5

      Master not really, they aren't the biggest club and foreign players can be more of a hassle than they're worth with clubs like these, since they presumably can't speak English upon arrival so they need to be enrolled in an English course or else they won't be able to communicate effectively with their teammates, look at a club like Athletic Bilbao, they are one of the most xenophobic clubs around with the fact that they only really accept their players if they're Spanish, but there isn't much wrong with them, they don't have to waste money on Spanish courses, or travel costs for a number of things. TL;DR it wasn't really xenophobia that was the problem as we don't 100% know if he didn't like foreign players, just that they could be pointless to buy when there is so much English talent currently in the market. Also English talent would always be cheaper (not necessarily better though) as there are many that go through academies for big clubs but slip through the cracks as they aren't good enough, but they are good enough for championship sides or especially league 1 sides, not to mention the grassroots footballers.

    • @hskqour
      @hskqour Před 5 lety +2

      Athletic Bilbao is not the best example. They only hire basque players (vascos) mostly from the spanish side, but sometimes from the french side too (for instance, Lizarazu, the former french national team left full back, played there a season or two) [admittedly with a stretch, as players formed in the basque country are allowed].
      Call it xenophobia if you will, this philosophy's purpose is not managerial, but rather political.

      westhamboy95 funny how only west ham fans remember that. as if orient fans are actually bitter towards west ham for getting the OS. It was just Barry hearn looking for a way to make money

    Funny how quickly football can change again. From the brink of Championship to the brink of non existence and into non league. Now we're back in the top half of League One.

    Poor ownership (all foreign,no less) have left clubs across England on their knees , Blackpool, Charlton, Cov, Blackburn, Orient.
    The FA and football league have failed these clubs, and they'll fail more clubs. We need to take control of our game. The fat cats at the FA, UEFA, FIFA , they are all dangerously incompetent. Yet are allowed to govern this great sport we all love?
