However one key point to think about with the supposed 'english' invasion of Ireland is that it wasn't anything of the kind. It was a Norman invasion, as England itself was invaded and conquered by the Normans in 1066. When the Irish invasion is going on over 90% of the country was owned by Norman French, and the English themselves were slaves in their own country. Northern England had closer ties to Ireland than the South as they were both Viking colonies.

The Conquest of Ireland arguably wasn’t fully completed until the Act of Union in 1800 when the Kingdom of Ireland (after centuries of constitutional and regime changes) was forcibly merged into the British state (though our civil service and courts remained separate, and we retained our legislative representatives). Those representatives forced to sit in London instead of Dublin, but went back to Ireland in 1919 and declared independence in a reconstituted Irish Parliament (copying the Hungarian walkout of the Austrian parliament in the 1860s).

Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.

Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows,
How you bravely faced each one with your 16-pounder gun,
And you frightened them poor natives to their marrow.
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,

From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.
Come let us hear you tell how you slandered great Parnell,
When you thought him well and truly persecuted,
Where are the sneers and jeers that you bravely let us hear
When our heroes of '16 were executed?
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away

Well the day is coming fast and the time is here at last,
When each yeoman will be cut aside before us,
And if there be a need, sure me kids would sing, "Godspeed, "
With a verse or two of Stephen Behan's chorus:
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,

The UK made the right decision. “Brexit” will be a success. It will take a while due to the current climate but we will get there. The border is a problem because the EU is making it a problem. The sooner the people in Ireland realise that the better. I believe the RoI will also leave the EU.

    • @aidancollins1591
      @aidancollins1591 Před 2 lety +1

@@noodlyappendage6729 I keep seeing you folks say this, but how is the EU making it a problem? Lets run through the logic of Brexit real quickly.
Brexit means a British exist from the European Union. This means it will leave all EU institutions, mainly the single market. I am under the impression that the main problem the British had with the EU was the single market, since it allowed the free passage of immigrants into the country. Therefore, the UK needs to disallow the free passage of goods, capital, services, and people in order to be sovereign from the EU. With all this in mind, the following must be true.
      1. The UK will leave the single market, stopping the free flow of people onto the island.
      2. This necessitates a border where individuals will have their papers and goods checked to see if they comply with standards.
      3. With the other two points in mind, a border must be put somewhere between Ireland, an EU country, and the UK. It can't be put between North Ireland and the Republic of Ireland because the Good Friday Agreement forbids this. This leaves just one option which is to put a border between the Irish sea and the UK.
This is what the UK wanted, right? A border separating the UK and EU to take back sovereignty. The EU is being perfectly reasonable when it does not want goods to flow from the UK to the Republic of Ireland without passing the standards of the single market. If they let that happen, importers could bring sub-standard goods through the UK and up into Ireland without passing any EU customs or tariffs. This is unacceptable.
Also, no, Ireland has one of the highest approval ratings for the European Union at 84% of the population. In fact, Brexit has been regarded as such a disaster by other EU member nations that support for the EU has grown in most member states since 2016. Even Le Pen, the opposition leader in France, dropped her "Frexit" stance.

When talking about the war people seem to only talk about Dublin
These lads didn’t fight the war. They were politicians.
It was the tipp brigade who formed the flying columns and created the first unit.
Cork brigade had 25 percent of ira guns. All together ira were 4 divisions 450 battalions.
Donegal where it was the last time British used heavy artillery to shell a village by lost against half the ira numbers.
Cork brigades fighting for the docks and turning back British navy.

Neil Follett ok granted it left out a few things like the Curragh mutiny. But on the whole I didn’t think it was to bad. Maybe your opinion differs, explain why if you want .
