- Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira squared off in a highly anticipated Light Heavyweight title bout at UFC 295. And through nearly two rounds the fight was living up to fan expectation. Until an unusual sequence happened when Pereira dropped Prochazka and seemingly knocked him out momentarily with additional elbows. Referee Marc Goddard would step in to end the fight but Jiri would attempt to continue fighting which created confusion. Bec he was out of u watch it from the angle Gilbert burns posted u see his whole body go completely limp from the elbows and that’s when the ref rushed in. The impact of him hitting the ground is what woke him back up but fight was already called off when the ref saw him go limp

People need to recognize what Jiri means for the UFC and MMA as a whole. He is a consummate professional and true man who does nothing but give and give for the sport. Great fights, great attitude, great message.

Refs are in there to protect the fighters not only from their opponents but also from themselves. Some guys are too tough for their own good.
Marc Goddard is an exceptional referee. It is one of the most insanely tough and thankless jobs on a world stage. There is sometimes a matter of seconds before permanent brain damage and even death in these fights. The fact we have such talented referees to step in and stop the bout when the time is right is honestly amazing. Sure sometimes they may get it wrong. Fighters will say “let me go out in my shield” but that’s not the referees job. They want to see you go home to your family.

It wasnt an early stoppage he was definitely out. Counterpoint, dude took a left hook flush from one of the deadliest strikers we’ve ever seen so he might not be 100% in the head when he got interviewed.

Reffing is a such a difficult job. No one is going to recognize a great stoppage, but only give criticism on a bad stoppage. When a guy is on the brink of losing consciousness, you cant argue a stoppage. These reffs deserve respect

Bad stoppage. Jiri said later he could have kept fighting. Jiri makes come backs in all his fights. Then Goddard stops it when Alex falls in a sloppy mount that jiri could have reverse and scrambled out of. Jiri probably would have been ko but we don’t know and the past says he may of had a good chance.

Jiri wants it and from history you know he is the king of turning things around so I would disagree with this stoppage. I would say 2 or 3 good unanswered shots or a sign of going out one more time then I’d call it, but I just say you have to let that play out I’m 50-50 whether Jiri scrambles and survives with his samurai instinct or if Pereira brutally ko’s him from mount. Securing all the control he needs from big ground and pound.

It was not early, jiri was out cold when the left hook hit him. Woke up when he hit the floor. He’s just such a warrior that he kept fighting. He prob could have survived and kept fighting if it wasn’t stopped, but he was taking a lot of damage while going in and out of consciousness. It was the right call.

Future HOF for sure. Look at his career so far, all he really has to do is keep fighting for a little bit and he easily gets a spot one day. He made LHW entertaining in a time where it wasn't the greatest division.

The way Pereira vs. Prochazka 1 ended, and the look on Prochazka's face after he lost, you knew these two were gonna fight each other for the title again. Pereira vs. Prochazka 2 is gonna be a hell of a fight. This could be the start of an amazing trilogy between the two.
It would only be a Trilogy if Jiri is able to get the 2nd fight against Poatan and beat him. Otherwise, no reason to fight again.
If you watch the stoppage, Jiri's hands actually fell back to the mat right as or right after Mark waved the fight off, proving he was indeed out.
