In this video, we're going to talk about blood sugar and what's normal for a blood sugar level.
What is a normal blood sugar level?
    • 80-100 mg/dL (could be less if you don't consume sugar)
This is the ratio of how much sugar you have in your blood.
The average American consumes 31 teaspoons of sugar every day, which is 130-145 pounds of sugar per year. This is why most of the population is becoming prediabetic or diabetic.
    Symptoms of prediabetes:
    • You get tired after you eat
    • You crave sweets
    • You're not satisfied after you eat
    • You can't go many hours without eating, and then when you eat you feel better
You don't need a lot of glucose (sugar) in your diet to have normal blood sugars. I believe you shouldn't be consuming any sugar at all. If you don't consume sugar, you could clear up so many different health problems.

Hi Dr. Berg..I used to have 105-110 sugar levels constantly. Two months into keto and blood sugar levels are at 88 after 1 hour of eating. Guess at fasting will be way lower. I'm asthmatic, COPD and chronic sinus. Cut sugars, carbs and bread next to cero and started gym thanks to you. With the Lord's help and following your advices will become asthma, COPD and allergy-free soon.

Just an fyi, on a very low/zero-carb diet the fasting glucose is often the highest of the day. Don't be surprised if you find your fasting levels back in that 105-110 range as a normal... and your after eating-glucose dipping a bit... Dr. Ekberg has a video about this.
Keep us updated. Thank you, and good luck.

I'm a former pre-diabetic. I went Keto (initially Atkins) about 3.5 years ago when my doctor told me to be prepared to start taking diabetic medication (Metformin). Now I'm no longer pre-diabetic with stable blood glucose.
Simply changing your diet is the best way to avoid or control diabetes. It's criminal that doctors don't change their patient's diets, instead telling them to eat whole grain, low fat garbage and prescribing them drugs to control their blood glucose.

    • @u8sumthinbad
      @u8sumthinbad Před 7 lety +19

It is criminal to not tell patients about keto diets, but a lot of doctors are still in the fog about what is best for their patients. I wish more knew about the fat myths and how helpful ketosis is for our bodies instead. Congrats to your 3.5 years. I have been just over 3 months eating keto and already down 30 pounds. yes. this depends on life style. i had nearly one year sleep disorder because staying in poor housing and mosquitoes bites though i was using mosquito net. i drunk cola in liters and liters few months back continuously. then accidentally it happened to check my blood sugar level ...then i found it was above normal. doctor suggeted me to drink ayurvedic medicine made off turmarick as main ingredient in that. i started eating low carb millets in the place of rice and wallnuts...garlik....surprisingly sugar level came to normal stage. in the initial stage if its type two...u can reverse it by replacing rice or wheat with millets. eat wallnuts..egs..red grape..cinnomon..garlick....turmarick here and there and more exercise like swimming...climving steps...more sleep....enough to control and reverse. hats off to these videos. great job. think rationally ...live happily. I think I'm a hopeless case when it comes to getting a normal blood sugar reading. I follow all the advise Dr berg instructs. I have damaged my pancreas (5 pancreatitis attacks) to the point that it produces some insulin but not enough. Normal for me is 145 to 150. I do IF twice a week and keto and this is a MUST. The bottom line is I believe if a person doesn't have the pancreas damage that I have, normal blood sugar numbers can be achieved with proper diet & exercise with IF.

My morning glucose is 65 mg/dL. It rises to 85-87 throughout the day after I eat. This has been fairly constant. I started keto 2 weeks ago. I’ve heard that once glucose rises, typically Keytones decrease and if glucose drops then Keytone’s increase. For the past two weeks when my glucose is low my keytones are low and when my glucose rises my keytones rise. Can my body still burn fat in this scenario? (Example: My morning glucose was 65/ketones 0.8. Ate a keto-friendly meal around noon and 30 minutes later my glucose was 85/keytones 1.1).

Dr I googled said my body is protecting it self basically with the suddenly withdrawnal of bad carbs. The cholesterol pills will lower the Cholesterol but I need this elevation of cholesterol for now. Just think all the years of stored cholesterol and junk in my cells got dumped into my system in large quantities at once daily. So my body is repairing and doing its thing. I found out why my a1c was 5.8. I was grazing all day and so called healthy snacks. I purchased a glucose meter and test. Test. And test. Premeal. 1 hr after snd 2 hr after. Eliminated all foods that caused me to go over 130 or 140. I mostly like u have 67 to 75 morning fasting. I stay under 100 during the day. I lost 12 lbs in 6 weeks by accident.

Thank you Dr Burg! You have convinced me to begin “IF” and I can’t believe how good I feel. I lost 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks doing 20/4 Intermittent Fasting, eliminating sugar from my diet, and following Keto. I’m a type 2 Diabetic that started out at 202 lbs and daily, morning fasting sugar reading in the 130s. I was on 500MG of Metformin and just started cutting my pill in half because of readings of 90/100. One questionI I do have is what to chew or eat during the day, while fasting to manage that empty stomach bad breath? In the last 2 weeks I haven’t been using any artificial sweeteners. Is there a type of gum or breath mint that won’t break my fast or throw me out of Keytosis?

Now it's down in the 80s and 90s in the morning which is good. the other day I pricked my finger and it said 83 and then I picked the finger next to it and it said 96. Why is that do I need a better machine and do you recommend in more accurate machine?

My blood glucose has always been around 77-95 for the last 5 tests I've done. I did a lifeline exam, it was 125! I did eat a piece of candy on the way in because I didn't want to have bad breath. Would that affect the results. I did the blood test about 25-30 min after i ate it.

i was just thinking that till 1997 the blood reading upto 140mgl was acceptable-this was reduced to126 which was further reduced to 100 in 2003, though WHO continues to accept 126 as the normal limit one wonders whether all our testing on glucometer and Of course tension
    is worth it?
Then I am reminded that a life with no panic, eating right and enough exercise and every thing in moderation is the key. Above all to remember that our days are numbered... Have faith in God and enjoy every movement.

@@Mariem090 Menopause or not, it makes sense to test after the meal. Think about it, what can one do short term to correct post fast or pre sleep, etc? The answer is to police the carbohydrate intake, i,e,, the meal. I have been low carb since 2011 and lost a lot of inches around my waist. What is interesting since I have a glucometer and did post prandial testing of my blood sugar (I am not diabetic nor an I overweight) I experimented with intermittent fasting. The first time I did I went for 24 hours without eating and of course after 20 hours my blood sugar dropped to 60. Then in a couple of days I fasted again and I had no cravings or weakness checked my blood sugar throughout the day and it never went below 85. And anytime I fast like that it's as though Im not fasting and my blood sugar is what my average is (when eating)which is between 90-100. What I am hearing from researchers and MD's who study low carb and paleo is that if your body needs more sugar to function the liver will make it anyways. When I first started low carb I was very strict with only 30 grams of carbs a day. My HbA1c was exactly the same 6 months into lowcarb as it was when I ate a high carb diet.

Years ago I started getting serious about health and changed my diet completely. I eat right and make it a point to get exercise and I feel better. My weight is normal, though I was never obese to begin with. I do consume sugar in the form of hidden sugars, but it is little and does not go over the recommended daily allowance.
Once in a while I do reward myself with some Lindt Edel Nougat chocolate. If I am going to sin and abuse my body, then I may as well do it correctly with something tasty.
