You are working on my dream sled, back in the fall of 82 I worked in a Polaris dealership got to uncrate a few of those 600s I wanted one so bad I could taste it but the price was a bit steep for a high school kid. Out here they are next to impossible to find but I'm always looking. Thanks for sharing can't wait to see the first rip.

Wish polaris continued the name on top of the cylinder heads. The engine and sled look clean for a 83.

I think I've got a 650BB piston for one of these. Had one when I was younger that had a 650 (newer) crank with big bore 600 cylinders and heads. Super unreliable but very very quick.

The 1983 600 had all cranks replaced under warranty . Instead of the usual PTO crank seal they used a sealed bearing . It was then recommended to pop that seal out once in a while and repack the bearing with grease . The muffler should not have any welding on it . I have a brand new Polaris piston and ring for the 600 if you might be interested . Its in the original box .

If you change your mind on the motor I have piles of 600 cylinders . I also have 600 big bore cylinders with the pistons. I'm sure we can make some kind of deal out on them. Someone needs to put them to use. 🍻

Yamaha used that sealed bearing on there triple engines from 97 to 2005 ish when they quit making 2 strokes. Those last a long time, mine has 20000kms which is approx 11000 miles and as far as I can tell its never been opened. Many get another 10000 miles out of those cranks without any work done to them. That said Yamaha also used a normal crank seal behind that sealed bearing. This is on the pto end , the mag side uses a large ( very exspensive ) needle bearing and a regular seal.
My whole point of that is that the sealed bearing should work out good for a long time.
I am planning on seal replacement in my motor this fall.
    Nice sled!

Love the humility... willing to show us all that you're human too, and still make big messes! Thanks for sharing the idea because I'm going to have to try that myself next time, only not with the hose is on the wrong side... we hope! Can't wait to see her done and tearing up some snow!

Hey! Right on! Was hoping you’d get to this sled! I have one myself that’s in really good shape! One of my favourite sleds! The 83 is a little different beyond the color scheme. 83 motor definitely has some differences from the other years-head Polaris casting, crank, no oil injection, different clutch, pistons as well,
If you have any questions I do have one, so just ask! Can’t wait for the next video! Cheers!!!

Hey Nutter, any chance you would know what (clutch) part number I need to replace the original closed face clutch, that's on this snowmobile. I'm not finding much on it but confusion.

  • @thespeeddemon2

What options do I have for primary clutch replacement upgrade for the 83 I know it is a odd one when it comes to the primary clutch

    • @nuttersspeedshop
      @nuttersspeedshop  Před 6 měsíci

I had to phone a friend on this one. Big shout out to Patron Mike. There's probably nothing that is a perfect match as far as new clutches go, though it wouldn't hurt to call Wahl Brothers and see if they have anything. A 32mm clutch from a later Polaris 600 with CFI fuel injection, call it 2010 or newer 600 since I don't know the exact year these started, is pretty close but will hang out further from the engine. Maybe 1/4" or so. I use these CFI 32mm clutches on TX340, TX440 and TXL. Same deal they hang out a bit further. I just shim the secondary out to match. If you can't live with this other options include rebuilding your current, rebuilding open faced parts onto your current fixed sheave and getting it balanced or getting a 30mm clutch bored to match your taper. With Micro Belmont closed I don't know where to go for the custom machine work.

I’m restoring an 85 to be a rider. What size lug can these chassis take ?
    Any crank rebuilder recommendations?

Pretty sure I'll get the 1.25" rip saw in mine. I've been told they can fit more, but I haven't tried it. If you are near Cambridge Mn check out JW Snoweld for crank rebuilding. A lot of people like Northern Crank in Thief River Falls too.
