  • Many owners love their horses so much that they tend to humanise them. Although this sounds like a lovely idea, it is not good for the horse, or for the horse-human partnership.
A horse needs to feel like a horse in order to feel confident in himself and to feel secure in the relationship dynamic of you being the respected and trusted leader that he can look toward for guidance.
As animals of prey they are wired to look toward a leader for boundaries and when to move their feet. This is the role the human takes on with their horse to create a safe partnership, that can take you out on a trail, to a stressful competition, or into a small dark trailer without any issues.
You’ll often see me use the "Changing of the Eye" exercise with horses, this is a very important tool to work with, you’ll find out why near the end of this video.

Think (picture) - ask - Support - PROMISE = The escalation of request process that you suggest (in different words) is I think one of the most important principles in horsemanship. You cover it perfectly. Thank you!!!!!

They get the almighty treat of release every time the step into my clear mental picture . They put the release in so that it is consistent and the same every time. I never feed treats out of my hand I think this kind of treat is what horses use to train people with .

This horses doesn't look healthy to me. His coat and hair are in poor condition, and you can tell he doesn't have good energy. The owner should address his health and nutrition first.
