The bolt that looks like it isn't attached with the ring around it is the same for 5 series saws. It's what helps give better anti vibe by isolating the engine, but gives a stop if pushing or pulling hard.
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle czcams.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. Would be honored to have either of those saws . i just love chainsaws especially the non electronic 1s but for but for operating in constant varible elevations could see the electronic saw being the go to
Working in BC Coast logging, the Husky guys are in the saw shop more, they just like the tougher mounts, we jab em, why, more pinches. I started 30 years ago packing a 092, still a great saw, we have them for when we need a 60" bar, heavy but at end of day we aren't beat. But get what you get better service at dealer if you don't do your own. We do our own in evenings, and it's about the same, the Husky has a stupid repedative throttle cable issue on the big saws, still a couple generations, still not resolved. They pack a elastic band, true story
@@troymeredith9528 yes it does. The Stihl dealer I go to is a good one. The guys that work there are genuinely good people, service is good, and they'll order anything you need for your saw. I'm sure it'd be different if someone was an ass to them, but that's with all people.
I use Stihl dealer here in NZ. Service is sublime. Parts are on shelf or arrive next day. Typical 1-3 day turnaround. Professional industry here is dominated by stihl. We have high density first cut by high production crews who are paid per tree. Some sites working 24hrs under lights. We got 4-5 years at 8hrs a day out of previous generation Stihl. It seems Husqy have caught up a long way in recent years. And many new Stihls are still in the proving stage. Industry here was annoyed to loose bullet proof products like ms200t, 0460 and 0660 which we considered basically faultless. We are not very interested in vibration control or so much intetested in ergonomics here. Power and reliability are the paramount components of production.
@Michael Fresh personally I wouldn't buy chainsaws online. I get that it's just a personal preference, but that's my reason for dealer location relative to your location being the deciding factor.
@Michael Fresh If your 180 starts running too lean after breaking it in and using it for a while, replace the carb with an adjustable one. Here's one on Amazon right now: www.amazon.com/Walbro-Carburetor-replaces-1130-120-0603-C1Q-S57B/dp/B00PRT5IY2
As a Landscape gardener, I only ever use Stihl,, chainsaws,, blowers,, hedge cutters,, stone cutters etc etc.... Just reliability and parts,,, I have tried other brands including Husqvarna,,, I was quite impressed with the Makita chainsaws(especially for the price)...
I'm a Stihl guy all the way. I have dozens of stihl. And a few huskys. Now I will freely admit the husky 395xp just might be the best big cc saw ever made and that's the only reason I have a few of them. Not trying to sound like a prick but it seems you wasted this whole video because of the muffler mod, shouldn't it be stock to stock, is the mod just a deflector or does it free up resistance. And most of these comps use the same exact chain. In your defense you do come off as totally unbiased in this comparison and I do love your videos.
those 572xp's are just demons!!!!! and I mean that in a good way! just picked mine up yesterday and made a few cuts today with it as tomorrow I will run it pretty good to clean up some good size red oak! but WOW what a ripper!! 24, 58 ga bar on mine also.
572 is 2cc smaller saw than the Stihl, but Husqvarna is 5.8 hp and the Stihl is 6.0 hp. Compression wise I would think the Husqvarna would have more with air stratification / x-torque engine. Great video!
I’ve run both brands and always thought the the stihl saws were better in terms of how they’re built. I just went and bought a new saw and after using both saws in this review I chose the husky. Feels much better built than the stihl, the 462 I feel they took a step back with the quality of the saw. Could be wrong but I feel the husky was better built and will be a step above their previous models.
Quick question does the stihl have the magnesium frame or no? I'm not sure. And he did say in this vid that the stihl has a muffler mod and the husky is stock.
I run both brands and have for 42 years. The chain tensioner deal isn't even an issue. They both have good and bad. Huskies have better clutches, AV , air filtration, carbs and oilers. Stihl has better ergos. Both reliable. Echo is actually putting out some good saws now. 7310 n 620, both good saws, without the auto tune bs.
To my ear the Stihl revs higher and sounds more stressed. However it seems to cut faster. Husky is the hard core lower cost option. What do you mean by “smoother”?
On the Stihl you have a dowel rod next to the oil adjustment screw that needs to be pushed down with a hammer and punch so you can turn the oiler up to the full maximum. I don't know why Stihl even put that stop dowel pin in the first place. They should have given the oil adjustment screw full range from the factory.
Looks like Stihl has finally got around to putting a proper air filter on their saw’s! I really like that nice big filter! Are they the same cc’s? Sounds like the husky is actually spinning the chain faster...cutting faster! Husky definitely sounds smoooth!!!
I've been doing some looking on youtube at saw comparisons. Hands down anytime they put a comparable Stihl and Husqvarna head to head. The Husqvara cuts faster every time.
The husky does run a higher rpm but lower kw output stihl runs same cc but higher kw. So stihl can run a lower chain speed but have a more consistant power during a cut/load.
Great comparison I would take the Stihl my local dealership sells both makes says they sell 12 Stihl to 1 Husky but maybe there selling more homeowner ones, be interested in talking to mechanics that work on both to see which break down more. Only problem if you sell more STIHL's probably going to fix more.
Actually the opposite could be true. If Stihl made their current range as reliable as the older models they would spend less time in the shop, hence they will sell more, etc etc.
462 bogs under load, fuel-thirsty, and I have trouble keeping the chain tight maybe it's the Australian hardwood. for a 72cc its a couple of pound liter starts up nice, love the carby air filter.
My experience compared between this 2 saw, stihl plastic cover more hard/stronger than husky if fall but husky engine is more durability and endurance. The crankshaft of new stihl model not so good for daily use ,sorry my bad english
I have a 660 and a 572. One thing I can say is I hate a dirty air filter. My 572 stays clean all day. That 660 will be dirty fast. Never had a stihl before.
Very biased.... Very. But there's a reason. Put both in wood.... for 7 hours a day.... The bias gets magnified. No contest. Husky dropped the ball. Plain and simple.
@@leapnlizrd67 I tend to disagree as to i have owned both and will never go back to Stihl. Husky just has way more torque from my experience, not to mention build quality is better, and starts way easier. And yes this is based off of running them all day 5 days a week. But whatever bro
I guess u missed the one where he crapped all over the ms311 for the 455 rancher?? Hes not biased. Imagine knowing someone for 5 minutes and making a total judgement of them . I can do it too.. you sir, are a total toolbox
I got hung with a stihl. It's not a bad saw for sure. It was the last of the 660s with a dumb carb. Lol. Came with a 36 inch bar. I bought a 24 for it. It's the only stihl I've ever owned. I'd trade for a 572. I saw the 572 at the bunyan show for 775.00. Tuff getting out of there without one but I did.
@@masonstearns9519 He put a deflector on it to send the exhaust foreward away from his hand, its not Walkerized or a special tuned pipe, if anything it will further restrict exhaust flow and rob power from the saw! lol
@@janismuzikants9320 They both hold about the same amount of fuel and oil, how does the Husky magically lose weight? This video clearly shows the Stihl cutting faster, and how did you come to the conclusion that the Husky burns less fuel?
@@nathanadrian7797 if you actually use the saws yourself, you can compare. But keep watching videos, you wouldn't be wrong to pick either saw anyway if you ever needed one since both are great.
Just slide the bar back and forth until the cover slips on. You had too slide the bar back and forth on the Stihl to slide it on all the way. For what it’s worth, if I was in the market for a new saw 70cc class saw it would be the Stihl.
Ye i like the chain adjuster on my stihls alot more, wish they did it similarly.. Huskys are nice saws, got a brand spanking new 550xpg which i adore! Its such a beautiful saw, just want to never use it and frame it in if it were possible :P
Husky’s heavier power head when on its side only is due to the bigger angle of the handlebar. When on the side - the point a person would hold it by is closer to the bar - hence the power head becomes “disballanced” because it becomes further away from you... I was never too keen on those Husky handlebar angles... Stihl and Dolmar handlebars seam to make more sense... I’d say. But maybe there’s some secret advantage in husky’s design there - which is yet to be discovered - I don’t know... but so far - husky’s handlebars are a bit weird. 😏
when you checked the throttle response you didn't nail it as much as the shihl. but the stihl wins hands down you got to hold onto that saw. maybe the husky need tuned a bit who knows.
Put a lighter or shorter bar on the 462. I put a 24 inch bar on my new 440 and it kept falling on its nose. After a while I took my 20 inch Total bar (laminated) off my Ms 360 and put it on my 440. It is now an excellent balanced saw. I am sure it would do well with a 24 inch Sugihara bar, but they are to pricy. I hate nose heavy saws.
The Husqvarna is heavier because it has more metal in it, more heavy duty and better made. And you did not even touch on the gas belching problem when refueling Stihl saws are having. The US Forest Service has quit using them due to the problem and are now buying nothing but Husqvarnas according to several reliable sources.
It's user error. They try to open the fuel cap before the fuel has settled. Most people run a saw till the fuel runs out so there shouldn't be any issues with fuel spewing out. User error.
Thanks for the great review. As I am trying to decide between the 2 my main concern is longevity and durability. A dealer in my area that sells both said they are both great saws ( of course he would say that) However....the Sthil is cheaper to repair and parts are more available. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you.
Go with whatever is likely to not require any extensive maintenance or repair and if past performance is anything to go by the Stihl will outlast the husky. If you want a land rover buy a Stihl. If a Ferrari buy a husky.
My experience compared between this 2 saw, stihl plastic cover more hard/stronger than husky if fall but husky engine is more durability and endurance.the crankshaft of new stihl mtronic model not so good for daily use
My friend it kind of looks like your making the huskvarna appear weaker than its counter I personally think that the huskvarna blows the door off of the styhl and I own all of them I cut wood daily there both great saws but gotta love the huskvarna now go to smaller chainsaw I might say that I prefer the styhl
Bulldust if you think pro stihl aren't heavy duty. We have high density forest here in NZ with Stihl dominating due to reliability. Fellers are paid per tree and skid site saws do 8hrs a day for 4-5 years just filter and the odd fresh plug.
@@daveyboy6985 haha. Here we go! Huskys are not robust through the body, chainbreak etc. Traditionally had a stupid chain tension screw position. And hated hot starting. To the point profesional industry here threw them aside in the 90's and became about 95% stihl dominant. 395 was always a good grunted but then the 064 066 was faultless in its reliability. As was the 044 046 and the 200t, that thing was bullsgit strong in every regard. I dropped one 15m once, new bar and good as gold. When I first decided to stop buying cheap box store stuff I purchased a stihl weed eater and it was worse than the cheap stuff. I have purchased echo ever since. Husky is a brand I would consider
The Husky weighs more because it has more metal in it and is a better saw. I own both, Stihl has way to much plastic on it and don't hold up in the woods like the Husky's do.
@@fml5910 If you go out and look on line at people like Ironhorse who restore and build old chain saws, all you will see is old Husky's, McCullough's, Echo's, etc...that should tell you something.
WWDiesel is that right?? You can pull a husky apart if your not careful. Stihl has and aluminum plate to reinforce it. How are they cheaper??? Husky aren’t balanced like the stihl. Plus the stihl bogs less than the husky. I used both for a lot of years. Don’t care for the husky. Stihl runs better and performs better.
My research isn't matching up with yours. That saw from the still site weighs 13.9 lbs. The Husqvarna site states the 572 at 14.5 lbs. That's not near the 1.5 difference you stated in this video. Seeing that the saws are both very capable and similarly powered (the Still with a slight advantage on paper), the issue for me comes down to price. The Still saw where I live in Michigan (USA) is over $120 more than the 572 and even more if it's purchased with the new lighter bar they offer. Here's my conclusion. The old time reliable staple, the Husqvarna 372 XP is also an equally powered and weighted saw and retails where I live for under $900. To me that makes more sense than spending $995 for that Husky or $1129. for that Stihl. Just sayin.........and, it's the most reliable saw I have ever owned in my life. Yes, I'm sure their were other variables I overlooked, I didn't do your research but why give away more money just because something new hits the market. In most cases, new things fail more often than old products that have been refined and perfected. Just look at that new Stihl 201T top handle.....it's by far the worst saw I've ever purchased, literally 11 shop visits over 2 years between the two of them I purchased for my business. Just sayin.....
Love my 372s yes I have many, but my MS201T is a warrior too. Other than my ground guy completely pulling the handle off if one when he got the bar pinched, I haven't had any problems.
I hear you but if you cut in all weather conditions and different elevations which I do, I really like the idea of the auto tune. My local Sthil dealer who is more old school had nothing but praise for the autotune which surprised me. I came in with the hell with electronic shit and he changed my mind on it. I'm picking up a 462 as soon as his order comes in.
Mark W just don’t run one empty in order to put it into storage condition. You will have a hell of a time getting the sob to run, again. I have never ran one empty using it but can only imagine what it would do. I put my 241 CM in storage condition, where I left it for 13 months. I like to never got the sob to run again. I got so mad that I just put it in my shop and left it for there for a week. I assume it flooded itself when I first tried to crank it, because a week later it lumbered to life and I mean lumbered. I just let it sit on the work bench for 15 minutes to stabilize, filled it back up and it cranked right back up. It has behaved decently ever since. ☺️
I broke lots of Stihl saws dropped my husky lots a better and more durable than a Stihl and It can all day in many temperature and altitude with out having to tune or adjust. Better quality my opinion.
Lets be honest the new filter set up on the stihls is top notch, they seal well and can be removed effortlessly. People replaced the hd1s and 2s with max flow because without grease they would most likely pass a minute amount of fine dust. I have has similar issues with my 572 as-well . I just add a small amount of grease to the sealing surface and go about my day…

Who ever put those "bungie" cords into the oil and fuel tanks obviously are behind a desk. Fist thing I cut off are those saw dust collectors that put trash into the tanks.
I run both saws. Mainly 661 and 72xp. Husky has better ergos. The stihl distance between the bar and handle is too short meaning the saw feels heavier especially if u need to undercut. The top handle runs at a more 90' angle over the top of the saw which makes less natural to hold. The chain adjuster is better on the Husky also. The inboard adjuster is a pain in the ass to put the bar and chain on. U got bad technique sorry. Also the wider spacing of the bolts which fit the bar I prefer also on the husky. It is a stronger design. The air filter on the stihl as u take it off drops so much debris in the carby which is also annoying. 661 has a great engine and gets rid of saw chips well. solid design but annoying to live with opposed to a Husky when you gotta do it everyday.
I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. A tick to getting the husqy side plate on and off easier is to just loosen it a good 2 3 turns before u take the cover off. When you go to reinstall it, just more the bar forward or backward a little bit and itl drop right into place every time. Hope that helps!

Both brands are good, so when it comes to which one to buy, it depends on which has a dealer closer to your location.
jT that's right ,it also comes down to how you are treated at each dealer.availability of parts.good service can often be hard to find!.

572 is 2cc smaller saw than the Stihl, but Husqvarna is 5.8 hp and the Stihl is 6.0 hp. Compression wise I would think the Husqvarna would have more with air stratification / x-torque engine. Great video!
stihl462 is lighter too.

Japan bar.Super strong Katana
Wow nice looking saws i love those bars its amazing how much a lighter bar feals
I thought you said uppercuts i was disappointed when i didn't see no tree chin punches
What kind of premix are you running in your stihls?
I run both brands and have for 42 years. The chain tensioner deal isn't even an issue. They both have good and bad. Huskies have better clutches, AV , air filtration, carbs and oilers. Stihl has better ergos. Both reliable. Echo is actually putting out some good saws now. 7310 n 620, both good saws, without the auto tune bs.
Auto tune on newer models are not that big hazzle anymore, sure.. the older iterations were bad.
Good 572 Xp
Stihl ms 462 👍👍💪💪💪💪

@@jpmongo61 Guess you better go back and time this video. Stihl was lighter and faster.
Great comparison I would take the Stihl my local dealership sells both makes says they sell 12 Stihl to 1 Husky but maybe there selling more homeowner ones, be interested in talking to mechanics that work on both to see which break down more. Only problem if you sell more STIHL's probably going to fix more.
mcdonalds sells the most burgers lol.

So, the Stihl is lighter, better balanced and cuts faster(I timed all the equal cuts) No surprises here.
Maybe you missed him mention the muffler mod
@@masonstearns9519 He put a deflector on it to send the exhaust foreward away from his hand, its not Walkerized or a special tuned pipe, if anything it will further restrict exhaust flow and rob power from the saw! lol
Actually fully loaded they are about same weight, husqvarna cuts faster and eats less fuel.
What are the black strips on the bottom of the saw along the metal casing?
@Ivana Notyers that’s good when you are young but at my ageI like ‘em light and well balanced.
Thank you.
Obviously, but there must be a more elegant way of doing that, like on the Stihl ;)

That whole extra pound on the Husqvarna is the massive bottom end it has the bearings and crank are much more heavy duty than the Stihl
Bulldust if you think pro stihl aren't heavy duty. We have high density forest here in NZ with Stihl dominating due to reliability. Fellers are paid per tree and skid site saws do 8hrs a day for 4-5 years just filter and the odd fresh plug.

Got one on mine and love it! Also did their 3 point dawgs, very nice beast!
You a bag of saw dust
Stihl 13.9 is with wrap handle
17:50 was weird. You held the throttle up slow on the 572. Weird. It will rev slower if you don't go wide open
my thoughts exactly...
Agree, that was dumb to do. To “create” a difference is no comparison. Edit the video and squeeze the triggers the same.
I noticed the same.
The 462 was noticing you faster ripping than the 572. I am not a fan of Memtronic or Auto Tune, because I like to adjust my own saws.
...yes, I don't care for the high tech on saws...simplicity and durability for me..give me an MS-440, MS-460, 372XP, or 390XP instead...
