- Side by side runs to see which saw is cutting faster! A course of multiple species and sized logs are set up to test the 461 and the 572. #firewoodmidwest #chainsawcuttingcourse
So far I've got two different companies that tried a 572XP and decided to get another.
One was running two of my MS461s, and ended up trading one of those saws in on a 572XP. The word is that so far there has been no issues with the 572XP. The saw is easier on the man running it for days on end over a saw with rubber AV. RPM in the cut is fantastic after break in. Although the MS461 has more torque, and will carry a longer bar, they prefer the 572XP.
The other has a MS462 that I built, and the 572XP. He's planning to get another 572XP.
Real world feedback........no brand bias. Just men making a living with a saw.
I guess it's preference. I went the other way. Ran my husky too lean ( I didn't realize it until it was too late). I ended up buying a stihl 461 as my replacement, and I couldn't be happier. I like the balance and feel so much more. I'm not biased at all, as I run both companies, but my 461 is my first choice (out of 7 to choose from) unless that much power is unnecessary or completely overkill. I used to cut 40+ cord a season as extra cash to pay for my hunting and fishing obsession (understated) lol
@@maddawgnoll what husky were you running?
@john walt 570. I started with an old 44 model. Was my grandpa's. I also have a 262 or... 260 sormething. Can't remember off the top of my head. The rest are StihI. I made the switch in 2014. The main factor was the mechanic. The saw shop that sold husqvarna only cared about selling and weren't helpful. The other shops where I lived were more into customer service and broke down the information on both the husky 372 and stihl 461. In the end, I chose the mechanic and then the saw. I was leaning towards stihl anyway since that's 1 what I saw in the hands of most the loggers I knew
Not the first time I have heard about this switch, a good one.
572xp's lower bearings go out prematurely. I own 2 of them. One lasted 392 hrs and the other just ovr 300 hrs. I have been a hand cutter for 34 yrs.
An oldie but a goodie! Had to come back a year later and watch again 🤣
FM Classic! 😆 Luv hearing those two saws running side by side like that. Thanks for stopping by Mike!👍🏻
Hey Rod, that was the best comparison video I’ve seen, cool split screen. The Stihl overtook him on the big double-barrel oak, says something about her raw power. Your movements were identical awesome vid, cant go wrong with either saw, great machines. Seger ain’t having any of it , looks like he s thinking about working on his “Night Moves”
I noticed my movements were pretty close. Nothing I did on purpose either. Guess that’s just how I run a saw.🤔 Thanks for watching Mike!👍🏻
Great comparison. Shows what a difference the chain can make. And that's supposing they both were sharpened equally well. Which it looks like both were cuttin well !
Yep, both chains hand filed to the best of my ability. And yes, both cutting well. Both great saws and a lot of fun to run! Appreciate ya watching Glen!👍🏻
Rod , the split screen was awesome . The whole video was good . Best side by side comparison . LIKE SHE SAID , LOL !!! I really appreciate you showing the pictures of my wood stacks . Del
Thanks Del! I’ve been wanting to make this video ever since getting that Husky. Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
Excellent. Torque, the Stihl has the Husqi beat. With that said, the USFS Hotshots all run Husk's because of weight, vibration and their air filtrations systems. I still like my 20 yr old MS460. If I was younger I might consider a Husqui, but my years are limited because of illness. I exclusively cut live oaks in TX for firewood.
Great video!
Both great saws. Both have their pluses. Appreciate ya watching Eric!👍🏻
People will always bash one over the other. I love both brands but I have always preferred to run husqvarna over stihl. Absolutely nothing bad about stihl at all. It all comes down to personal preference and what’s comfortable for the operator.
BINGO!! Your absolutely right Kristopher! And also who carry’s what in your area. Absolutely no Husky dealers in this area except for farm stores which only carry the home owner models. I’d never ran a Husky. Finally broke down and bought one online just so I could run one. I haven’t had a problem with mine yet! I just love running chainsaws. Brand don’t matter. Although being a Stihl guy makes it fun giving the Husky boys a hard time!😆Thanks for watching! Appreciate ya!👍🏻
Well said
That was enjoyable. Thanks
Thanks for watching 461!👍🏻
Like Husqvarna but Stihl is where it's at for me
Yep, me too. Appreciate ya watching Doug!👍🏻
Great side by side, both saws are very nice!
Yep, both are fun to run! Thanks for watching!👍🏻
Thanks for putting me in your video rod!! I want to do a comparison video with the 400. I want to compare the 20 inch bar to the 25 inch bar, but in all honesty I can’t tell a difference between the two when running it!
No problem! You should do a side by side with that 250. Show how much faster it is. Bet you could run a 28” with no problems also.👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest great idea! Oh yeah judging by how it does with that 25 it would definitely run a 28!
Hey Rod, cool comparison. Me, I am a Stihl guy in and out, but as you know by yourself, the brand is not tooo important and the HP etc. also not. Its the sharpness of the chain. My MS 260 with a new chain does perform much better, than a "medium sharp chain" on my MS 440. BR from Germany
Chain sharpness is number one. In this video both chains were freshly filed and equally sharp. I can say I find myself filing chains to relax now.😆Sharpening one now as a matter fact. A full chisel for the 461. Going to compare full and semi in my next video. Appreciate your comments and thanks for watching BR!👍🏻
both companies are neck and neck. I have a local shop for Husqvarna so got the 572, I also have a Stihl 50cc. At the end go with what you have a good place to get it serviced, both are top tire
You are correct! Can’t go wrong with either brands pro models. Both top notch! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
That was cool to see the side by side video.
Thanks! Glad you liked! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
They both did a fine job! I've always thought the Huskies started a bit easier and the Stihl's were built a bit better. Can't go wrong with either brand really.
Yep, both are fun to run! Thanks for watching BuildALot!👍🏻
3 pulls and my 461 is warming up. Anything above zero (F). I ran her this winter at -20. That took a little more effort. Summer time and she starts in 2 every time (choke then run).
I do love the ms461 but the 572 is the better saw all around. I should admit I am one who's owned them all, because "I needed it" 🇺🇸😎🖕
Awesome 😎
Thanks!👍🏻
No contest. The 572xp smoked the Stihl, always will. LOL! Am partial to the 572xp as I just bought one. I thought my broke-in Echo CS-590 was fast in silver maple, then ran the brand new 572xp in the same wood... not even close.
Your partial? Say it ain’t so! Lol! Either that or you watched some other video! 😆Appreciate ya watching HF!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest, well, in the side by side video the Husqvarna finished several days ahead of the Stihl.
And the Stihl has more 5.5 more CCs
Nice!
Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Well executed comparison.
Just having some fun running the saw the way they are now. I’ll have to put another full chisel chain on and see how much of a difference it makes. Thanks for watching Bill!👍🏻
Great video man. Nice saws you got there. God bless you
Thanks! Yes, both are great saws. Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
Great video
Thanks Larry! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
Either chainsaw would be a good one to put in your woodyard!
You are correct Stanley! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
The difference between the 2 looks negligible. Which do you prefer to use and which seems to hold up better?
I’ve been a Stihl guy for 20 plus years so I’m a little biased. Haven’t had the Husky long enough to know about longevity. I’ve heard nothing but good from the guys who have them though. Probably couldn’t go wrong with either one. I’d go with whoever has the best dealer in your area. Appreciate ya watching John!👍🏻
Yell the stihl has a bark box on it and it has 5or6 more cc I think that’s a big advantage
Also I don’t think the Husky is fully woke up at this point. But in this video the stihl was running a semi chisel so that kinda gave the advantage to the Husky. I did a video after this one where I ran both with full chisel. Appreciate ya watching Mary!👍🏻
Excellent ! 🪵👍👏😎
Thanks LTD!👍🏻
Just picked up an ms462. Would love to see that against a 572xp.
I’m pretty sure the 572 wouldn’t stand a chance!👍🏻
Two great saws, both are work horses
Yes they are. Both are fun to run! Thanks for watching EJK!👍🏻
That husqvarna putting laps on that stihl lol figured it be close on the double barrel oak seeing the husqvarna cut the bigger end and threw the hardest part of it but still cake walked threw it stihl got nice low end torque but can not out cut them husqvarna on sure speed due to the high rpm gap
Your idea of a lap must be a little different than mine.😆 Thanks for watching smiley!👍🏻
Great vid.
Thanks! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
Top this video... 😎😎
Great video. Only complaint I have is the 572xp looked stock where the 461 had different muffler. I'd like to see thenm both either stock or have same mods and have both same chains. But other than that good video. Cheers.
Hey Rod! Nothing scientific here. Purely for entertainment purposes and the pleasure of hearing saws run! These are the two 70cc class saws I run cutting firewood. I’m a Stihl guy givin Huskys a try. Both great saws. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.👍🏻
Great video 👍
Thanks! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
That would be pretty sad if that stihl has a semi chisel , and almost caught the husky in the knotted log . Obviously it still lost. Husky sounded a tad higher on rpm
Stihl had the semi chisel. It’s got a little more grunt than the Husky. Thanks for watching Daniel!👍🏻
Great comparison! I have a 572 also but i do think the 461 has more torque in big wood.
Thanks! More comparisons to come. Just finished filing a full chisel chain to compare to the semi chisel. Appreciate ya watching Claude!👍🏻
Nice comparison Rod! Not really sure who the victor was? I just know which one will be running long after the other one is worn out. 🤣 I let you decide which one I mean! 👍🏻👍🏻🍺
I’m thinking you know which saw had the semi chisel Todd. I’ll do another video sometime of them both with the same chain. Would like to see that 400 run against these two saws. Appreciate ya buddy!👍🏻
I've got an old MS 460, 24" bar. I put a barker box on it and schooled myself up on square ground ... it's a beast ...runs 30%+ faster through the wood ... its scary. Not sure if Husqvarna has a mod but go square ground and you will be happy.
Think I’m gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for watching Tom!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest Woo something I didn't say ...noise ... its through the roof from the barker box ... you have to get ear plugs AND grade 5 muffs or you'll never be able to hear your grandkids.
@@stihlnz ya definitely louder. My ear muffs seem to do a good job !👍🏻
I'm guessing the stihl had the semi chisel but either way that bark box sounds good !
You are correct. Next one they will both have full chisel. See what happens! Thanks for watching Hunt!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest that stihl is gonna take that husky for a walk with a full chisel chain that bark box is gonna scram Lol
Definitely two nice saws! Awesome job on the video, I didn't realize I wasn't subscribed, I'm in n now Lol ! Been watching you guys for a good while love the content, take care 👍
Ya I’m enjoying running both of them. Thanks for subscribing and for the feedback. Appreciate ya watching Dave!👍🏻
It looks like the stihl is modified. The husqvarna still has it beat.
czcams.com/video/MDozD9u7D04/video.html Yes the Stihl has a muffler mod.
Great vid bud
Thanks! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
great video Rod. Both saws did great. The side by side was cool. The Stihl seemed to sound a little deeper this time, did you do something with the muffler? Either way sounded great
Thanks! Ya I put on a West Coast bark box. Couldn’t handle that Husky sounding so much better than my Stihl! 🤣 Appreciate ya watching Lee!👍🏻
which one to you think is better built and will last the longest?
Hey Fred! I’m a longtime Stihl man so at this point I gotta go with Stihl. This is my first Husky so I don’t have enough experience with it to make a call on that. It seems like a great saw though. Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
That was a close race. Good video! With the pictures at the end, I want to know how Whackin Axes got his hands on a MS400??? All the dealers I talk to say you can’t even order one???
Thanks Mike! They got it at the local farm store during a no tax weekend! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
I love me a big piece of ash . . . She did say that. I heard her . . . 🤣
Glad I’m not the only one who heard it!😆 Thanks for watching!
@@FirewoodMidwest You betcha! I love me some TWSS and Dad jokes on my channel. I recently purchased a Husky 572-XP and love it so far. Thanks for your great video work . . .
Are 28 or 30 inch bars?
28in. Appreciate ya watching Murray!
Me gusta siempre husqwarna
Husky makes a good saw!👍🏻
Does anyone know how the 461 compares to the ms462c?
I’ve heard the 462 is a little quicker. Haven’t ran one myself though. Thanks for watching Shotty!👍🏻
461
full for husq ???
Yep! That’s for watching!👍🏻
Hey man just wondering what you’ve changed on your 461 to make it sound so awsome I wana do the same
Hey Cody! It’s a WCS bark box. Just remember to adjust your carb after you install it. Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest awsome thank you where can I order one of these??
All good I’ve found it 👍🏼👍🏼 thanks a lot
I like your new video this was really cool video I think the Husky one this was really cool video buddy 🍺🍺
Thanks Travis!👍🏻
Good night too you guys buddy
What Is the point if not using same chain
Sorry, if your new to the channel you probably don’t know I’m a Stihl guy and I like messing with the Husky boys a little. Here I gave them the victory only to cast some doubt on it in the end. It’s just me kinda amusing myself! Plus I thought it was i tight race and fun to watch. We’ll be doing a Full Chisel showdown between the two saws soon. Thanks for watching Wesley!👍🏻
The 460 has an adjustable carb did you make sure the hijet was tuned to 13,500 RPMs to match the husky?
It has been adjusted but not sure if it’s matched to the Husky. I kinda got some crap after this video for not using FC on both saws. I guess I was kinda having some fun with the Husky guys. 😉 In my next video both saws have a FC. It’s a better side by side comparison!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest either way both saws are awesome... Even though I am a hardcore stihll guy huskies are just as good
@@kennethrobinson5151 I am also and yes, both are great saws and both are fun to run. 👍🏻
Is this a fair comparison given the 461 has a non standard muffler!
Anyway the 572 is a clear winner as to be expected!
No it’s not a fair comparison at all. Just for fun. I like both saws. Love hearing them run side by side! Thanks for watching Mark!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest 😊 i can see you favour both Husky & Stihl?
Both have their followers-
Take care friend!👍
@@marklobbett455 been a Stihl man my whole life. Nothing against Huskys. No Husky dealers in my area at all. Had to order this one online!
@@FirewoodMidwest hi yep i get that- the first saw i used was a jonsered on a chainsaw training course (cs30) here in the Uk -back then?- but ive always had & ran Huskys which i still do- my local dealer supplies both Husky & Stihl- its a personal choice & what suits-
My boss has an ms500i which ive used on big hardwoods & i must admit i do like!!- but id still opt for the 572!-sorry 😆
Could of hit a nail finely Husqvarna wood cutting machine
Own both husky runs faster, stihl has more torque. Prefer Stihl with enclosed clutch. Either saw gets the job done
Spot on John! Thanks for watching!👍🏻
Sthil getting it done, no Husky needed! Lol🪵👍🏼🙏🇺🇸
Of course it not needed but it still fun! Thanks for watching Larry!👍🏻
l also keep a 572xp how are you ? Andò what difference do you find the 462 sthil ?
Hey Andrea how are ya? I’m doing fine. They both seem to be great saws. Stihl might be a little better in big hardwood. My next video will be a better comparison of the two. I run a full chisel chain on both saws. Thanks for your comment and appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest I’m fine thanks👍💪 , l’m glad you’re fine too 👌you’re great . The video is one of the best l’ve ever seen trust i did a great job to highlight the qualities and defects of the chainsaws !! I’m curious about your next video however your videos are the top 💯❌💯❌💪🏆
Do you have a bark box on that 461 ?
Yes I do. Thanks for asking and appreciate ya watching Aubrey!👍🏻
There's a better saw than both of those... 73cc Makita for size comparison.. I personally like the ea7900prz1 Makita and the 6400 dalmar... Their chainsaws cut just as fast and are so much smoother running, no vibration in your hands and they are dependable.. it's a shame they never took hold in this country... Best chainsaw ever made..but don't take my word for it. Get yourself one and put it to the test.. you'll text back and thank me in a couple years..
Everybody has a favorite. Wish I had the money to have one of each! Thanks for watching Clayton!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest I don't really have a favorite so to speak. I just chose what proved to be the Best all around overall saw in my experience of a lifetime of running chainsaws. Thanks for sharing your videos

Awesome! Glad to have ya here! Appreciate ya watching!👍🏻
The Stihl is a slightly bigger saw by 5.5 cc and it looks like that same saw has a bark box or an opened up muffler. It should have an advantage.
You are correct. Also, the stihl is completely broke in. Husky’s not. Both are great saws with their different strong suits. We’re just having some fun running saws. Thanks for watching!👍🏻
@@FirewoodMidwest which one had the semi chain?
@@glennn440 Stihl had the semi chisel. Thanks for watching Glenn!👍🏻
Great comparison rod, that ms461 seems to pull real well down low. What bar lengths you running here?
By any chance do you think you could provide the dimensions of the powerheads of both of these saws? I'd like to buy a Husky powerbox to store my m461 in, however the only fitting guidance they provide is that it will fit 'up to a 572xp'...
Thanks! I’m running 28” bars on both. Dimensions for the MS 461 are 10 1/2” W x 11 3/4” H x 18 1/2” L w/dogs. My Dogs are 3/4” newer ones may be longer. XP 572 dimensions are 9 1/4” W x 11 3/4” H x 19” L w/dogs. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching Drew! 👍🏻
