  • 2011's are sooo 2019" - Mark Boardman. In this episode, Jimmy and Mark sit down with Adam Maxwell and Reuben Aleckson to discuss the fuss about these fancy 2011 pistols and why so many competitive shooters and even other marksmen are becoming so entranced by their performance vs the classic polymer-framed options. What is the best type of pistol to start shooting with? Are 2011's unreliable compared to their polymer counterparts? At what point can someone say they're "Good enough" to get a nice custom 2011 pistol? What the heck even is a "2011"?? Just a few of the many questions we get to on this podcast!

This video has probably delineated the best arguments for high quality 1911/2011 platforms over polymer framed guns. My favorite point is when Adam mentioned that military/duty gun choices are often made not on the merits of the gun itself, which is to say, those decisions are probably on other factors like economic factors and reliability in various areas of operations. I'm convinced that if someone is looking for heirloom, multi-generational quality and reliability, a high quality 1911/2011 is the way to go, which is not often talked about in gun purchase considerations.

I went thru several brands of poly 9mm pistols until I found a Rock Island 17+1 doublestack 1911 commander. The grip angle just feels more natural to me. I found they made the 22tcm/9mm that can change with a barrel and spring swap in about 2 minutes or less. I have 15+1 round 45ACP and they make 10mm and others. I haven't looked back and haven't touched my poly guns since. The triggers are soo much better, and the 9mms hold 17+1 in flat base mags just like poly guns. RIA's are the poor guys 2011 much like the Paras before it. Most doublestack base models are about $500.00, their top models are about $700.00! RIA is the largest manufacturer of 1911s in the world but isn't that well known in America because they are Philippine company. They have an ammo plant here and make a ton of their ammo here in the USA as well. Just putting this out there for those that don't know. I wish someone would have saved me from buying all those poly guns.

Can't wait for my Infinitys to get here. Damn STI/Staccatos were just the gateway drug to the REAL shit.

there are also double stack 1911's made by Para-Ordinance and later Rock Island Armory and Springfield and Remington (and I am thinking Kimber for a hot minute made some) that have a one piece frame but is just wider to take a wider magazine. basically a wider frame on a 1911. These are generally not as expensive as the STI types, but some models are no longer made, so .... you cannot buy all of these new any more.
Different design from the STI/SVI 2011 frames (STI trademarked the name "2011"), but a similar idea.

@Tanya Rodriguez STI ones (and I think SVI as well) are called 2011. It's a trademarked term, so Para ordinance and Rock Island are technically not.
Also the 2011 normally have a two piece frame (frame and grip section are seperate) while double stack 1911's have the grip assemble as part of the frame.
But functionally, yes, a double stack 1911 is a 2011 (or close enough unless you want to be technical about the terms)
      :)

@@theoverunderthinker I'll mention (very late, it seems) that Rock Island calls their 2011 a 1911A2. I've got one, and 17+1 rounds of 9 in a 1911 platform is nice to have indeed when at the range.

@@gcanaday1 nothing wrong with replying late! 😊
I have heard them called by many names, depending on where they are being spoken about, but you can almost always tell by the capacity; single digit capacities tend to be single stack and double digit capacities tend to be double stacks.
I have a lot of different variations (calibers, barrel lengths, brands) and all seem to be pretty good choices.
oh yeah: Bul Armory also has them now too and they are not horribly expensive either.

2011s in 40 tend to be very picky as far as OAL and nose profile go. 2011s in 9mm are much more forgiving. But, each 2011 is a rule unto itself.

Last time I looked a prices for STI mags they were like $80 a piece. So him saying he takes 12 mags along with having lots of practice mags that's insane. It seems like you have to be at a high level or have loads of money to be doing this kind of shooting with these types of handguns.

2011s are range toys. Too fussy, too expensive and too fragile for self defense use. Glock will still be shooting tens of thousands of rounds after your 2011 breaks or fails.

    • @daytonsmith8910
      @daytonsmith8910 Před rokem +2

Yep and in a shtf situation glocks will be a better option for the reliability, simplicity, the abundant amount of spare parts and magazines and with 2011 handguns like staccatos you have to lube them every 500 rounds or they won't function reliably. You don't have to clean or lube a glock for 5,000+ rounds.
