I do for me now. It's seems selfish to some, but only the one's who no longer get something from me, outside of friendship. I read a lot, go to museums and small day trips. I enjoy good homemade food, animals, long hikes and taking care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I am a natural introvert and I don't fight that anymore. I rid my home of so many things this past month, the idea that I had to have a home looking a certain way, with certain things, for what? Nothing. SO much happier.
Wonderful, thank you Benita. I’m so glad you mentioned “family” in the toxic relationship scenario. Too many people think you must continue those relationships regardless, bcuz they’re “family.”
Yes, i feel the same... even my homeopath and other healthcare profs told me to keep in contact with my ( toxic)family members, Just because we are family....but i know now it made me feel depressed and tired for many years!! So thank you for your thoughs about this...
Dear Benita! I absolutely agree with cutting toxic friendships, after almost 2 yrs of Covid I know love being more alone and concentrated on what I love! Hejdo!
The biggest mistake i made when divorced was moving to the Village where my family lives....but i had a severe burnout and didn t think much about it...but i stayed depressed and tired for many years, cause of my family mixing to much in my live...i still wasn t free....only now with lockdown i re-discovered myself....thank you so much Benita for the idea of toxic People!!...it helps me a lot not feeling guilty!! Greetings from Belgium.
I love all your videos. I start my day every morning with a cup of coffee and a Benita Larsson video. You are any daily inspiration to continue to slow things down and enjoy life instead of rushing through it. It is a work in progress!
How thrilling, Benita! Congrats on working for yourself full time and doing what you enjoy! I agree with number one on your list. As a recovering, highly-trained people-pleaser, I didn't figure that one out fully until age 40. It truly does make a huge difference.
I have a toxic co-worker. Thank you for mentioning eliminating toxic people from your life as the number one priority. It helped me immensely!! Congrats on the freedom to do your own thing!
Benita, You cannot imagine how important this video is for me. I am at the beginning of a massive change. Moving from one country to another. Leaving my job, not sure about my marriage, learning new language and it is at 37 years old. THANK YOU.
Congrats on making your decision to leave your corporate job! That was a high stressed type job. You have made some great choices in moving forward in life. Part of what you're experiencing is aging gracefully. It's wonderful to step into the next stages of life while doing self care. I love that you take long walks each day - good to clear your head and appreciate nature. I too have cut toxic people out of my life - Whew how nice is that?
Congratulations on the job situation! These are great tips. I really love your outdoor space. Its so cozy and neat. As for the tips, I had to cut my own sister out of my life because she was the worst energy vampire, and after even just talking I'd have anxiety issues. People thought it cruel, but sometimes we have to look after ourselves first and foremost.
Congratulations, Benita! I retired almost 3 years ago and because of the tumult of the last year and a half, plans were changed. But as a minimalist, it was ok and I used this time to pare down my life even more. I stopped having my hair colored and love the low maintenance (and the look) of my silver hair. Thanks to you, I went through my possessions and donated a lot of clothing and costume jewelry that I haven't worn in years. I run/walk every day-weather permitting. All these things contributed to making this period more serene than difficult. Thank you again for your continued inspiration, Benita.
Congratulations on your decision to leave corporate life. I recently left my corporate life behind after 40 years, and moved out of the city. With your videos as constant encouragement, I have let go of things that no longer serve me, and I am settling into a slower life routine. It has felt challenging at times, not having things fill up my time each day. But I feel this space I've created will bring new possibilities into my life. As always, I look forward to your content!
I just watched a minute and have to comment straight away.. People's time management skills are usually so bad that they can't realize how someone with a peaceful demeanor can work full-time and more. They fail to understand that it's exactly this approach that enables productivity, combined with simplicity and organisational skills. Benita, now that you're no longer in the corporate world maybe you could make a video about that experience? Just a thought - I like all your content anyways x
Congratulations! I took early retirement shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks & it was the best thing I ever did for myself. Since then I have kept busy writing, spending time with friends and pursuing my hobbies. I wish you the very best!
Congratulations! So happy for you! You have worked hard, been through a lot and deserve more time for you to do what you choose. So enjoy all your videos, have gotten so much out of them, admire you and your lifestyle. All my best to you.
The first tip is much more important than one would first think. Especially if it is about toxic family members, who _can_ be harder to deal with than friends. The 'breakup' is difficult, and can take quite a while to process, but it is absolutely worth it in the end. The peace of mind that comes with it is liberating on a whole different level. In my experience I finally felt that I could make my own choices without feeling bad about it. Now I can just be me, and my shoulders are not up in the ceiling anymore.
Oh my goodness - congratulations! I am so so pleased for you! I can only imagine how hard you have had to work doing 2 jobs, as well as dealing with your health issues (hopefully now doing ok with that??) so it is well deserved that you can continue to succeed on You Tube. I love your videos, they are so calming and inspiring. I have been a minimalist for a few years now yet I always get some motivation to improve or change things when I watch your videos. The tip about toxic friends is so so true. And I did this myself and never looked back. All the best for the future! x
Congrats! I lost my job last year and decided to retire at 51 along with my husband and who is 65. I don’t regret it all. I love living simply and on my own terms.
So pleased for you. Amazed you’ve managed to do both jobs so long, your cats will love having you around more. When I remarried & moved I just didn’t tell quite a few people, including some relatives, where I had gone. My time since then has been so much more peaceful.
@@suzy1750 A couple did on social media so I just ignored them / blocked them. One sister pestered the one sibling I am close to regularly to get my address but he just said he didn’t know it.
It was so nice to hear from you about letting go of toxic relationships, I've been doing that recently but still felt so guilty about it. Especially in relation to family members. These were great tips overall and I agree with and practice pretty much everything! The only exception would be that my husband and I love doing things together more than anything. We love experiencing a little of each other's interests and seeing each other happy in their element is super rewarding for us. It helps that we share most of our interests but still, I'd say that as long as you're truly happy and fulfilled when you're "joined by the hip" that's fine too 😊
Hi Benita, my goodness, how liberating is this for you - well doneI time to focus on you👏👏. I lost my job last November due to this Pandemic. it was a very difficult time. I have to say now that it has been the best thing that has happened to me. I am free for the first time in 40 years and it is great. So Benita, very best wishes for your new ventures - Health and happiness😊🙋♀️.
Congrats! Agree on not spreading ourselves thin to people who don’t care about us. From a previous people pleaser this was the best decision I’ve made.
@@brendashortt1073 that’s a hard one. I find that there are situations like yours where one cannot just step away from 100% whether out of love, compassion, or obligation. I find what helps is doing a declutter of other current obligations to make room for one that is the most important to you. Is there a way to give less time to certain things to allow more for one thing? Is there help available or extra hands?
Such a wonderful video! All 7 are great tips. Thanks for sharing them. After working 2 jobs for so long, Congratulations on retiring from the full time one. Enjoy the extra time; you deserve it.
Congratulations Benita. Your tips resonate with me. I've started to feel less guilty about saying no to things I don't want to do. There's still a way to go, but it's a start. Best wishes as you enjoy a new phase in your life.
Thanks Benita, yet another great video well done and to take inspiration from. You mentioned 7 tips that are simple to implement but can really slow down life in this fast-paced world. We should really live well and everyone should implement your advice. Thank you so much.
