- It’s been just over a year since the Xbox Series X launched, and during that time we’ve seen new games, updated features and new accessories. But what’s it actually like to use, and what improvements have we seen since it was released? Is Game Pass worth it?

As an owner of both, the Series X is fantastic. The Dualsense has changed my world so I tend to buy games on PS, however I am a huge fan of GamePass.

Some of those features would be nice on the SX controller and from what I've heard they are coming but I still prefer the SX controller just because of the comfort. PS5 hurts my hands after a short time of playing. I use the SX for all third party games and PS5 for it's exclusives.

Whilst it’s kind of mentioned, I think it’s really important to note that from a storage perspective, xbox, 360 and one games can be played from external hard drives. I got a massive 4TB one and manage my memory by storing anything not optimised to that and keep anything that is optimised on there as it’s much faster to transfer from there than re download from the internet. Love my Series X since launch day. Such a great evolution of the Xbox one. Game pass is a total game changer.
Did the same thing. I should've bought that hdd when i had the One X. It helps a lot.

@@Theemptythroneistaken tbh it’s far bigger than I need. Bit with game pass (and not the fastest internet connection) it’s a good solution. I remember when the 360 came out a 20gb hard drive was about $90. I can see that in a few years the sea gate expansion cards coming down to about $100-150 and offering 3-4TB
I know right?! When I bought my series X the first thing I did was buy 2 tb SSDs and boom expanded storage for half the price of xboxs proprietary storage, and there just as fast.

I bought it for Forza Horizon 5 mainly. Hands down my favourite racing game of all time. Absolutely brilliant and looks superb. Also, biggest thing for me is the load times. I know it sounds silly, but we’re so used to devices instantly getting you into content now (phones, iPads etc). Couldn’t go back to an old system with the mega long load and boot up times.

Thanks for the review! I got my Series X a few days after Christmas last year (coming from a PS3). I'm blown away at the graphics and game play of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. I just got Elden Ring and cannot wait to dive in. Cheers!
I had the elite controller a while back and I absolutely loved that thing, eventually I bought a PC and now I play on keyboard and mouse, my friends convinced me to buy a scuff to play warzone and I returned that thing immediately, the elite feels way better, looking forward to the review

I ended up picking up the elite series 2 for my X, and I’ve been very pleased with it so far. Really love the button customization.
Im getting my elites series 2 Thursday need it for warzone. I tried the scuff don't like it. The series x is the best console Microsoft produce yet. Next gen features off the charts
the best controller ever made imo.
I’m really looking forward to Hellblade 2. I thought the first game was a masterpiece in immersion and puzzle solving. The combat was fun but I’d love to see it improved

Halo Infinite is my current favorite game on XSX, most fun I've had in Halo since Halo 3. Can't wait for Elden Ring to come out as it's what I have always wanted from From.
Im just getting into Halo Multiplayer with my friend after a long time away its great.
I’ve always had a Playstation to be honest but I have a series x and game pass, do you recommend me looking at Halo? I know it’s one of Microsoft’s flagship games but just looking for recommendations really. Thank you
@@LittleWing-35 so Halo CE - 3 (CE is the original Halo if you aren't aware) is probably the greatest story in all of gaming told across multiple games. You can get 6 Halo games in the Master Chief Collection and while I don't care for all of them equally it's definitely worth it. Infinite has the best multiplayer (as far as mechanics go) so it's definitely worth trying since it's free even without gamepass or Xbox live gold.
If you end up loving Infinite's multiplayer then I would go play the MCC and maybe Halo 5 if you want to go into Infinite's campaign. If you do this you'll probably also want to watch a playthrough of Halo Wars 1 and 2 because they have a big play on Infinite's story.

@@LittleWing-35 yea you definitely won’t be disappointed Halo like other franchises have good and bad games but the story is great throughout it.
Plus Halo the MCC is on game pass so you only need to spend £10 per month or do what I do and use Microsoft rewards for game pass ultimate.
i got my series X about 4 months ago and it still blows my mind, really cant complain much besides the 1tb ssd doesn't seem to be enough to have lots of S/X games. 9.8/10

Love your videos! My soundbar cuts off the audio when you finish your sentence because it detects there is no sound anymore though, that could just be me but I’d figured you’d wanna know. Maybe some very low volume on the background would fix it. I usually watch on TV, not on computer. No cutting off on PC ✅ Keep up the good work
Great review as always. I got my Xbox Series X 💚 a few months ago and I'm loving it. Forza Horizon 5 was the main reason why I chose it over the PS5, but the game pass is just incredible.

@Juan Suarez really what glitches not being a dickhead, we all have diff experiences. I didn't have a glitch, or a small microstutter like some.. only some PC gameplays of FH5... in the one and half Year of my play.

I don't even care if not 1 game is 4k.... sooo many 4k games, with max settings looks like ( small things even draw distance, textures, skyboxes? things i see different than OG 360 ) i'm just happy we don't have Playstation emulation.... I got my xbox series x back in mid december, and my favourite game so far has definitely been the Halo Infinite campaign. Although a few bugs were present (I went through the floor many times) it was a fun game. A game I look forward to that is coming this year is definitely Elden Ring. I love the concept of the game and would love to play it very soon.
Picking mine up Tommrow after years of trying to find one I worked hard and I think it’s well deserved can’t wait to play these next gen games man !
I'd be happy to see an in-depth review of the Elite Controller for Xbox. For one just to get some more delightful content from your channel, but also to convince me to buy a controller that potentially could help me get on the same level as those sweaty people on almost every multiplayer game these days.
I went from the PS4 Pro to an Xbox Series X. Not for any reason but I wanted to try something new. My last Xbox was the Xbox 360 (red ring of death) but I’m super impressed with the Series X 💚. I got an elite controller too and putting the thumb sticks as smooth, aggressive or instant has made a massive difference to me and playing FPS and movement is quick. What I can’t find much info on is Dolby Vision Gaming, does it make a difference or is it just more of a preference? Is it smoother or something? I think the future either way will be awesome and I can’t wait
I really wanted to get an X but ended up getting the S. And honestly I'm super impressed as well! I'm starting to also dig xbox cause of game pass.. Regardless, well done video Chris!!
yeah same i got an s and really liked it then i found my old xbox games and got an x, so cool to play mw3 and mw2 again
I honestly can't tell the difference between the two performance-wise. They are both impressive machines. Worth it to get the series x if you are wanting to watch 4k/8k movies via blu ray player or buy games hard copy which in my opinion is pointless because you still have to install the game via harddrive.

Long-term Xbox fan, currently own the Series X and just got the PS5. Love the controller for PS5 and got the system for the exclusives. Now after some time with it, I love both consoles, each have their own pros and cons but just now fortunate enough to have both and not be limited to console exclusives!
That's the best way, playing both makes you realise they are both strong in their own right.

@@xkurisu5 that's a really hard question to answer. Microsoft owns more studios then PlayStation and I believe they also have more games in the works but PlayStation also has some good games coming out. Why not just get both? Or get a PS5 and the series s.
@@Spartan_83 I don’t have the money to get both. I might want to try something new and get the PS5 but at the same time I bought new games and a headset for my Xbox one which I will lose all of that.
I just got one about a month ago and i’m in love. Pair it with a monitor that can support the 120hz and you’ll be amazed. It’s night and day compared to the xbox one, and can play basically every single game on game pass with absolutely zero lag.
Doesnt your connection have to relate to the lag? I dont think the specs on the xbox series x have that much an effect on lag

Yeah, it's not cheaper on PS5 either but the price will come down, third party is making external storage for the sx so the price will drop.
I've had an Xbox console since the 360, I wasn't going to get a series x, but just recently won one in a raffle, this is a great console review but it's also really nice to learn about the game pass, because I knew nothing about it before. Thanks!

Xbox learnt their lesson with Xbox one...now strictly gaming fun.. without getting ripped off.. also big investment in the future ..love this console..solid... Also Dolby vision.. recommended getting lg oled CX onwards to max your visual quality..

I have a ps5 and almost had it a year and just got a series X before Christmas. I can’t put it down. Game pass is so worth it. I think I might just use the ps5 for the exclusives, and my ac collection. And with the Xbox/activision deal, I’m basically future proofed. I would consider.

I'm a PS5 user and the 2 things I'd want Sony to implement are the quick resume and a game pass equivalent. Loved the video Chris! And we march on the road to 500k. At this rate you'll cross it before June mate let alone this year. I might have to change my prediction lol.
Im a Sony player aswell....once you try Quick resume you can't go back one of main reasons my ps5 collects dust aswell as no exclusive games out right now that I want. Gamepass and quick resume are unreal and most Sony players don't realise how good a feature it is.
@@sully8317 interesting. I use my ps5 almost everyday and it still collects dust. I think it’s pretty common for all consoles and pcs to collect dust regardless if they are being used or not since the exterior doesn’t have fans surrounding it blow off dust. Secondly Sony is currently working on a game pass equivalent

Yeah I heard Spartacus or something?? but supposedly it won't be day and date of 1st party studios so you will still have to pay 70 :(
@@sully8317 i have my ps5 standing vertical so mainly just the top collects dust. I totally can understand game pass being a big factor to not playing as much PlayStation. No one wants to pay large amounts for old games and they even have some exclusives/day 1 launches in it as well
Clean your house frequently there will be less to no dust.

Xbox Series X 💚, I've had mine since January and I love it! Came from a one s. I was dumbfounded for a week straight at all the performance differences, to be fair I still am as it's amazing and continues to improve as more titles are being optimized for it. I also purchased an elite series 2 controller when it went on sale for 140, once I learned how to use it, It is great! battery life I find is great as is the dock. All of the features make it right for you. The tension adjustment and configuration make it astonishing. Great video keep up the work!

By far the best console hardware I've ever owned from Day 1. Definitely lives up to it's name as the world's most powerful console. The PS5 is also amazing but I have had a less seemless experience on it compared to the Xbox.

I have a xbox series S and a ps5. To be honest I have been playing my ps5 a lot more. The xbox just doesn’t have a game
That has caused me to stay with them. I mean yes game pass is awesome! I play halo but already got burned out. What draws me to the ps5 is the remote to be honest. I also like the hints in games. Returnal was awesome. Spider-Man was great and horizon will be awesome.

Fantastic review! As an owner of the console I agree with your points. Your feedback also rings true for me as we have the Xbox in the living room so it's jarring when I see games I've never thought of playing across the top 😅

my favorite game right now on XBox is actually Path of Exile, it runs really well on Series S compared to PS5 (which i also own). the resolution will tank but the frame rate keeps up, even on juiced maps where im clearing multiple screens at a time. if you are like me then you will take the loss of res vs losing out on framerate. Halo Infinite is fun but i really dont like a lot of their progression and cosmetic decision
If you have frame drops on ps5 you should play on performance mode, thus way you still have the higher resolution en better framerate

I love my Series X 💚, due to shortages I bought the Series S before it, and still use it a secondary , guest players and travel. It’s fantastic as well. Xbox made me ditch my Master Race PC (RTX 3080) for a more convenient experience

@@yishiin3798 yes of course! I added an external SSD via USB and keep games in it, some run out of it, others I just copy them to the Series S when I want to play them. It’s a fantastic machine, specially if you have Game Pass and your graphics expectation is not 4K Native graphics. It can do 1080p 120FPS or 1440p 60 FPS super stable. It’s the best bang for buck of the entire gaming history
@@yishiin3798 I bought the S first then bought an X later on. After I owned both, I think the X is a fantastic machine, but I would have been perfectly happy with the S for a couple more years. In hindsight, I should have passed on the X until they were easier to find. I really didn't need that much console and didn't find the experience better enough to warrant the $500 purchase.

Great review as ever. One question i have is about headsets. I mainly play on the PS5 but I have the series X in my room on a monitor to play game pass games but I don’t have a decent headset. I saw your review of the official wireless headset, is this still your recommendation for the series x? I see a lot of people say the Steelseries 7X is the best for budget versus performance. Any thoughts or recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot 👍👍
Good review! I've had a PS5 for a few months now and finally got a Series X a couple of weeks ago and thanks to Game Pass I'm primarily now on the Xbox for everything except PS exclusives like Miles Morales, which I just finished, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart which I am about halfway done.

Fantastic Review. I have just setup my Xbox Series X and I just had to get GamePass. The choices are incredible. I've always been a Xbox fan and done most of my gaming on this ecosystem. I can't wait to play some more games I've missed out on.
Got my Series X on Xmas Eve and havnt looked back. Been playing Extraction and I have been loving it.

Just picked up the X yesterday (fluked out local store had one), and immediately installed Game Pass and downloaded Flight Sim GOTY Edition. It is in one word, incredible. Highly recommend.
Tried hard to get a PS5 but got a Series X instead and I absolutely love it. I do have some issues I ran into though like my controller has succumbed to the stick drift even though I babied it lol and there was a problem with the disc drive: it wasn’t reading the discs properly while it was standing up, I turned it on it’s side and it works fine now. Definitely looking to get an Elite 2 controller next month also.
Xbox series controllers went backwards imo in terms of quality

I own both the Series X and the PS5. I have owned every xbox and playstation to date. This generation has got to be the closest in terms of quality. Last generation I played 99% of the time on PS4. The generation previous to that Xbox 360 smashed it out the park. PS3 just couldn't compete in my opinion, even with it's exclusives. This generation though I'm split between the two. I like the haptic feedback triggers on the PS5 dual sense so I tend to buy more games on PS5. Game pass on the Series X is an absolute game changer though. Both consoles are just as good as each other this generation, it just comes down to personal preference. You'll be happy whichever console you own.

my only issue with the series X versus the PS5 is that quick start has affected the performance of 2 games for me. it crushed the framerate in Guardians and froze Mass Effect during auto saves. granted both issues were easily remedied by quitting the game in the Xbox menu, but still its an issue I've never have had with the PS5.

I honestly believe the SX is better than the Ps5 as far as design and services. In my opinion the only advantage Ps5 has at the moment is exclusives. Some how some way Sony is just better at putting out better games. Meanwhile Microsoft is spending billions buying studios while Sony really don't have to answer that! They already have the exclusives! That could change but I don't see SX competing with their exclusives for at least another 3 to 4 years! Reason being they just acquired Bethesda and the Activision acquisition wont be finalized until 2023... That means Sony still has games already in development from both studios coming... XS wont benefit from exclusives from either studio until all game deals with Sony are over then it will take another 2 to 3 years to develop an exclusive game specifically for SX! In other words we wont start to see exclusives made for SX from either until maybe the end of the console cycle! An of course we will get Starfield which is exclusive other than that it will be a while.
Yes, but Microsoft isn't buying studios because they expect Sony to answer right away. They know that in the short term it won't hurt Sony. But you don't make a multi billion dollar deal for short term gains. Microsoft is surely planning ahead and they hope that this move will change the playing field proobably for the next decade and beyond.
@@dm8579 Yeah but how do you do that making games multi-platform? You make all games exclusive and a lot of Sony fans will grab an SX just to play those games!
Gamepass is the best thing that's ever happened to gaming. And the Series X might just be the best console ever made.

Thanks. Even though the Xbox has a lot, I still prefer the PS5 overall. Game Pass is a game changer, but for me there are exclusives on the PS I just couldn't be without.
All my life I've had PlayStation's but after 4 months of debating and looking at multiple different reviews I finally ordered the Series X last night and I'm beyond excited for a new experience!!
Got my series X a year ago. Haven't been this happy with a console since the 360 of maybe even the Wii.
