    All I'm saying is that the range near me dropped from $23 for a box of 50 9mm range rounds to $18. Hopefully this keeps up!

    I'm one of those new handgun owners, and the lowest I've gotten 9mm is for.32 cents/round, and that was aluminum-cased ammo. .34 cents for brass. 15 cents per round only 2 years ago makes me want to cry. Having said that, it seems that availability is much better. Virtually all the online retailers I shop from have sent me emails in the past week about "Ammo available now!"

    Ammo prices and gun prices will drop when the depreciation starts after the recession. No one will have money to pay for ammo or guns. People will a rough time paying for food.

    Your explanation is perhaps the very best I have seen so far.
    It is not only inflation and supply & demand, but the disruption to our supply chain caused by knee-jerk reactions to the China Virus.
    Many years ago (1980), one box of 50 rounds of .45 Auto cost about $18.00.
    Today, according to the US Inflation Calculator, that box should cost about $63.00.
    I can buy a box of 100 rounds of the same for $64.99 today.
    Over time, as more people embraced the Second Amendment, ammo prices dropped steeply. More people bought guns and ammo companies competed for market share.
    Unfortunately, our society did not expect the Burning-Looting-Murder of 2020.
    There is no "Marshall Plan" for gun owners today to help us out of this predicament, since our elected officials at the highest levels think we should be disarmed.
    I suppose the price of ammo will continue to rise until such time that demand tapers off, the price of raw materials abates, inflation is corralled, prosecutors go after miscreants instead of victims, and people of common sense are elected to city, county, state, and federal offices.
    Be well, Sir!

      My local Walmart superstores (the 5 in Fayetteville NC area) haven't had more than a box or two of ammo for MANY years(at least 12).
      Gander Mountain and Dunhams's Sports (the only two sporting goods stores that still sell ammo in Fayetteville NC area) did finally start to have ammo on hand sometimes. However the price never went below double what it used to be before this shit started in 2008.

    Copper and zinc prices are at record highs. Lead is also on the increase. Given the increased government demand as well and Russia being out of the market (they are never coming back - remember Chinese ammo in the 90s...), prices are going to exceed last years. Buy it while you can.

    To put ammo cost in perspective I’m now getting 9mm ammo for around 33 cents per round compared to 50 cents per round one year ago. 22 LR ammo is also down significantly over the past 12 months - from 10 cents per round to around 6 cents per road. So, year over year, ammo prices are down a lot.

    I'm curious about something. Let's say that you're in a bad spot, but you can't move. Could they make blank rounds that contain (for example) corn starch, so that you can smokescreen your own position? A clip of ten rounds would conceal your location for about five minutes. It would work best if the smoke powder could be mixed directly with the gunpowder.

I see these comments and they are right, although we are getting cheaper ammo online it's still requiring shipping thats likely to get very expensive if it hasn't already. (I did a good by getting a bit of it before it really got bad). There's quite a bit coming in still but those that are catching up are those that haven't bought the damn gun yet and want the ammo before it really gets worse.

    I've noticed the ammo prices aren't as bad as they were. At first you could only buy 3 boxes of ammo, where I live honestly the range I go to the ammunition price is better than anywhere else. I have noticed 9mm ammo is expensive but .308 and .223 or 5.56 are actually reasonable.

  • @djchino
    @djchino Před rokem

    Inflation is BS, if we want prices to go down people is to stop and refuse to buy ammo at ridiculous prices. If we continue buying it at a higher cost do you think they are going to lower the price? Is business 101. I my self stopped buying ammo when the pandemic started. I have 300 rounds left and I just don’t go to the range at all. When or if the price go relatively close to a more reasonable price then I’ll go back, if not that’s it for me, I won’t go anymore and hold what I have to if I ever need to use it. They need a good boycott and see how the price will go down quick

    @427SuperSnake1 Před 2 lety

    Vista Outdoors raising their prices tells me that ammo prices are not coming down soon. Because the market pretty much follows what they do. On top of that inflation, scarcity and prices of the components will keep the prices high. Not to mention the Military is currently sucking up 90% of the supply of primers, copper, lead, zinc. Leaving not much left over for the civilian market. And it will only get worse as they open more military ammo facilities, at least for a while until there is fluff.
