  • The Asus TUF RTX 4090 OG OC can't be water cooled because it's actually using a RTX 3090 Ti PCB. Avoid this card if you can!

UPDATE (2): EK got back to me and said none of their blocks will work with the TUF 4090 OG.
    UPDATE:
Lots of people are asking if the 3090ti block will work. I reached out to EK to ask them directly. Waiting for a response.
Also, lots of people down voting the video thinking I'm talking about the TUF 4090 OC card. This video is about the TUF 4090 OG OC card. They're different. It's confusing.

I have a feeling they just haven't tested it so they can't tell you it fits.
Since the board layout is the same as a 3090, the contact points will be the same. The only possible difference is if some of the components are a different height. So you'd have to change the thermal pad thicknesses through trial and error.
But I HIGHLY doubt they are different.
And all you'd have to do is put a 3090 block with 3090 pads on it, assemble the card, then take it apart and look to see if every pad got dented and the thermal paste was squished on the core.
If yes, then you are good to go.
If not, then figure out what needs altered and swap it out.
Other than that, if the PCB is the same, a 3090 block will definitely fit.

Ek says the 3090 ti water blocks will fit this card. I did the same thing.... took it apart to find a different pcb and voided any return policy. And had the wrong cooler. Anyways I could return the cooler and buy the 3090ti one. It's on sale on ek's website

@@hightechlifewe already know it won't work because the borad size is the same but the die isn't. So you would need a water cooling setup that fits the 3090 ti borad and the 4090 die cast. Doesn't seem like to big of a problem but an annoying one for sure.

Bought this 2 monthos ago.... Temps went way to high, 83°C GPU and 98°C hotspot on full utilization with RT. Tought it was a bad chip or something but it was more due to the much smaller cooler that is installed here. Even with undervolting not much has changed. I sent the card back and bought an Palit Gamerock OC, Max 69°C GPU and 81°C hotspot. Feels definitely safer in terms of longevity.

@@frankthepriest1220The cardboard of the good card is octagonal. The one on the OG card is normally square. The cards also look different. The OG card has distinctive notches on its fan, 3 on the top and 7 on the bottom. The good OC card has none of these. If you look closely, they look like completely different cards. The fact that they are both black and have the prominent TUF logo in orange in the same place in the pictures can be confusing. Maybe that's how it should be :-D

Thanks man. Card arrived and it matches the description of the good OC. Yeah people like me who never saw an OG model could easily confuse the two models, and the fact that it's not clearly written on the box let me think that Asus did it intentionally.
If they are two different models of the same card, Asus HAD TO write it on the box, to let customers choose and not accidentally buy the OG like it happened to him

Bro, I was about to get this card today used/new for $1,400 and I skipped on it because they are also using the 3090 heatsink too. The card is thinner than a standard OC Tuf so it's going to be harder to overclock this card too since it won't handle the heat very well.

Brand loyalty is absolutely stupid. I've owned 5 different 4090's, and ended up with a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 because it was the only one with zero coil whine with the best silicon. It was a fun binning process. The list includes two MSI Suprim X 4090's, a Gaming Trio variant and an Asus Tuf, not the model shown in the video though. I did like the MSI cards more then the Asus one, just because the Tuf had atrocious coil whine and the hotspot hit 100c after 2 weeks in standard 4k ras which was absolutely not okay for a near $2000 card. A bad TIM application out of the factory? Not okay Asus. My point is though QC varies with every company and every generation. I was skeptical about Gigabyte at first and now it's been the absolute best, most reliable card I have owned for the past 10 months. Suprim were beautiful definitely but yeah. Why power limit a card with a 26+4 phase VRM it doesn't even make sense. I shouldn't have to flash the bios to get what I desire.
Bottom line though when I see people stand behind and stick up for certain brands while bashing others, it is absolutely stupidity. You should only care about the fastest. And the best. Not branding. Asus definitely makes some nice stuff. I'll give them the nod on the die-cast shrouds whereas MSI you have to buy their flagship model or you're getting a giant plastic shroud. Just like Gigabyte.
One thing MSI did do right though was 3 slot io with a PCB metal brace. Gigabyte had the best anti sag bracket design out of all of them though, where it actually screws into the motherboard with standoffs and into the GPU. Suprims was a ridiculously long pole, and it came with a tiny mousepad like wtf lol. Gaming trio had a stupid design that supported the wrong side. Asus' came with a little gimmick screwdriver hybrid thing.

satandard bait and switch. we should be given pictures of the PCB on the box, as well as what GPU die they are using. if its non reference that should also be stated. a nice flashy "Custom Engineered PCB!" doesnt even sound bad and give the user a better expectation but it snot about that its about $$$$ for as little effort as possible. This combined with the over volted of AMD SOCs and their joke warranty support for it will keep me from buying any ASUS products, they aint EVGA lets put it bluntly.
all of this isnt even compare the fact that several 40 series models from the 4060 to the 4070ti have 8 lanes but they use the full sieze 16 lane to make it look bigger but the lanes are faux and go nowhere. thats false advertising
