Like all things in life, money. Most people don't care enough, it costs a hell of a lot less to just say the lock is pick resistant which is enough for a lot of folks.
It's not worth it since thieves almost never pick locks, they use destructive entry mostly. The only people picking locks are paid services and people that like helping others when they lose a key or lock them inside something.
@@spregged7231 oblivion showed how locks were done on the inside, but the lockpicking minigame was played by getting the timing right. You can argue the "security pins" we see in the video are the same in oblivion when you mess up the lockpicking.

It's kinda fascinating how accurate that game's lockpicking was in hindsight. Maybe a bit out of place in an RPG, something like that would fit better in a Thief game imo, but cool nonetheless.
@@yewtewbstew547 I always thought Oblivion lockpicking was goofy until the first time I saw a lockpicking video with a see-through lock and was like ohhhhh I get it now

This stuff is so cool to me. I’m ordering a set of picks and a practice lock. Thanks for introducing me to a new hobby! And who knows. It could be useful one day!
It can be. I helped at my workspace twice with mine, one time someone left the master key inside a room you can only get in with that key, and another time we had to open a really old server rack that was so old that nobody even had the key anymore. Opened both and my boss invited me to free pizza because I saved them a couple hundred bucks on a locksmith and possibly a new lock.
So it’s normal to loose pins when you are trying to pick spool and other security pins, good to know (just got myself picks and locks recently and learning)
DAWG I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE EXPLAINED COUNTERROTATION, FINALLY I thought it was just “Do less tension”, And it’s only worked like, Once. Using the pick itself to turn it more makes perfect sense, Thank you, Genuinely.
Thank you this video helped I can now do 4 standard with one cut out. I’m gonna try and throw a serrated one in their in a couple days when I get really comfortable with different combos
I explore abandoned places as a hobby, and lock picking has to be one of the most frustrating things about it. Keeping your cool is something I commend here lol. I would’ve kicked the door open by now.
I strongly recommend against commenting things like that because I know people who have gone to prison over their comments online (free evidence, how nice!)
I feel like my biggest problem is getting a nice movement with the pick I feel like I'm just jamming it in there and trying to get around my turning tool
Biggest help was learning proper tension to hold a lock cylinder. You can learn this easily with a practice lock with a single spool pin. You wanna get a feel for the right deflection in the tension tool to allow the cylinder just enough movement to allow the spool pin to clear the sheer line and snap back. Then add a serated pin to get a feel for the binding it makes in the lock after you get good muscle memory for that tension. Also making sure you have the right tension tool is a huge help.
Standard pins keep the core solid, most standard schlage and kwikset actually come with 2 or three spools nowadays so it's not that they aren't there, the biggest reason for locks being easy to pick is actually just poor bitting of the key(pins not have much variation in length) and poor tolerances as a result of locks being made cheaply.
