Here's a pro tip: When you comb open a lock, the key way is freed up. This actually an intended feature, because the key way now becomes a handy compartment for storing the disappointment.
@@kaljerico7342 When you're using a key, there's no real sideways movement until the pins are aligned and you turn the key, so it's not like you're grinding against a sharp corner like you are when picking. Under normal use, it looks like it would be fine. Still quite an aggressive pin though lol

Only the worst of locks can be combed open, It is a really easy design flaw to fix. However, most North American companies don't sell security products. They sell the illusion of security

@@JA-oo9qp Rotational pressure on the keyway. The trick is enough pressure to hold the set pins above the sheerline while not so much that you can't push the working pin above the sheer line. If you release pressure the springs will push everything back down. If you have too much pressure you won't be able to move the working pin. If the pin you are working on is to tight to move you can try another one which may be less bound. So if watching LPL when he says "nothing on 1" it means he can't move 1 so he is going to try another pin "click out of 2" likely means he pushed and pin 2 first didn't move and then popped past the sheer line.
LOTO have a purpose for being so crummy with so many security pins. They're meant to show any attempt to get past them and be very challenging to open without obvious damage. First one I picked I turned too far and it turned into a baby's rattle. That one is probably not a feature.
This is the first time I’ve actually understood how/why safety pins work, this front angle just makes it make sense. I’ve seen hundreds of McNally/LPL videos but they’re always from a profile angle when using a demo lock, but something this time just made me go “oh THAT’S the point of all the weird different safety pin shapes!”

Deviant Ollam has done a few videos about these types of door bypasses, including some on Lock Picking Lawyer's channel. If you look up his videos featuring the travelling hook that's probably a good place to start since I'm pretty sure he mentions dead latches and such (which mitigate attacks against the door latch like carding)
Make sure to have a correctly fitted strike plate installed. - And no hinges on the outside. If you can't put stuff below the door while closed, you're golden.

I pointed out that people who want to break the law will find ways to get into your house anyway. He agreed, but added "the point isn't to make it impossible to break into your house. The point is to make it harder to break in than your neighbor's house."

The point is to prevent those unskilled from entering, basically removing the temptation. If you saw open briefcase full of money you’d know that’s not your money but you would still have that temptation to take a few hundred if not a thousand dollars since it’s so easy. Though even if that briefcase is closed and perhaps tied to the bench you’d look at that like “there’s probably something valuable inside there but it’s not my business” Though someone who is knowledgeable and has the intent to commit a crime would see that case and be like “there’s probably something valuable inside that nice looking briefcase…. I could easily break that chain and pick the lock at home” No lock is going to prevent a knowledgable intruder, though the best you can do is catch them in the act or have some form of self defense “guard dogs” “camera’s” “guns(if your in the United States)” or even just some form of hand to hand combat.

Im not lock scientist but could you just have a pin on opposite sides from eachother that only the key would be able to reach both at the same time. And would require equal pressure in opposite directions which id imagine would be very difficult for a picker.
I've always wanted to know how to do this. Not for nefarious purposes I swear 😅, just because it's cool and also a very practical skill to have in emergencies.
That's jail time unless you have permission. As an electrician, I have a lockpick set to help me gain access so i can do my job but I always have a manager or property owner present with permission.

Some locks don’t even need that, especially in dorms 😂 in college I became the go to person to call when you were locked out of a room because I had a piece of laminated paper that I got really good at maneuvering between the door and frame to unlock it. It was laughably, and worryingly, easy

There's no such thing as an unpickable lock--only a lock that hasn't been picked for the first time yet! The Bowley Rotasera and 543 are two of the most notable examples.

That and symbolic value such as a store manager having the keys to the store to open or close it. A great example is if you had a unpickable lock on your house or store a thief will just use your window and a rock.
If you can get a tool in, it can be picked. If it somehow the lock doesn't give any feedback (like the attempts by Stuff Made Here), then that's the closest to "unpickable" (picking is just guessing)
Random but im in my 30s and rediscovering alot of random hobbies i attempted 10 or less years ago. I have always wanted to pick a lock. The more i see this content, the more i wanna grab a starter kit. Skills are just repeated attempts, consistently repeated. Idk if id ever need to lock pick anything but its still awesome.
I carry a pair of American locks for LOTO purposes - typically if a lock gets left we pick it with the bolt cutters then give whoever left their lock on crap the next day
Interesting how those little knobs make such a difference for deterrence. It messes with your picking attempts and makes you question whether you actually got the pin properly. It doesn't prevent picking but slows it?

I love how locks are basically puzzles. Once you know the basics and learn how to use and apply the proper tools, you'll be able to open most locks.

I finally got the starter kit. And I picked two dead bolts and a padlock but couldn't pick the practice lock at all.

After all this time watching lock picking videos I've finally found out what the different kinds of security pins are and how they work
I carry a pair of American locks for LOTO purposes - typically if a lock gets left we pick it with the bolt cutters then give whoever left their lock on crap the next day
Oh THAT'S how Master Keys work!!!! There's an extra pin to make up the difference between the unique key's pins and the master key's shear line!!!!!!

Interesting how those little knobs make such a difference for deterrence. It messes with your picking attempts and makes you question whether you actually got the pin properly. It doesn't prevent picking but slows it?
