WOW! Nanlite Forza 60 vs Aputure 120Dii Godox SLB60, Stella 8000

  • There's a new light in town and it's making serious waves in the video and photography world- the Nanlite Forza 60, a direct competitor to the famous Aputure 120Dii but much much much less expensive, lighter, smaller and more portable for taking on location. It even uses tiny Sony NP batteries instead of heavy V mount ... but it does have an optional DTap cable if people want to use it for extended periods of time. The Nanlite Forza 60 uses only half the power but puts out the same amount of light as the Aputure 120Dii and the Stella 8000. It's the same price as the Godox SLB60 but smaller, lighter and more powerful. It even has an optional softbox. Watch and enjoy! Subscribe for more cool stuff.

Didn't bother me. It sounded realistically normal, whereas I find it weird to watch a video where there is no natural shadow of anything. That's what we're getting used to seeing though.
Oh, I came back to add - Forza - pr. FORT zah and basically (without looking it up) means force or strong, and you hear shouted at races. So you are on the money with the race car reference.

Thanks for sharing a comparison of these lights. The brightness rating seems a misleading for the Nanlite Forza 60. I think the brightness takes the reflector into account in a lot of the published statistics, and I can't seem to find the raw output with no modifier statistics anywhere. I think because of that, the modifier it comes with boosts the lux at 1 meter, two to four times raw output. For example, the Aputure LS C300 II is 11K Lux at 1 Meter, and 45K with reflector. Nanlite Forza 60 is 11.9K lux at 1 Meter with reflector.

    • @MarkusPix
      @MarkusPix  Před 4 lety +1

I took the measurements myself in the attached downloadable chart. Nobody uses bare lights- they use at least a reflector.

    Hi Markus!
I ended up buying the Nanlite Forza 60 on your recommendation for outdoor videos. It's been great! I've even thought about getting another one, maybe even the new bicolor one, as it's a little annoying attaching gels on location.
The only problem has been the bulkiness of the battery attachment.
Did you end up modifying yours like you said in the video?

Try the Godox FV 150 or 200, cob Led with flash ! The Godox SLB 60 is about $ 100.00 less than the Nanlite with batteries so we do love to see more cob lights, but Godox has a 4 times flash also FV 150 ! Aperture and Stella are over priced, but they also don’t manufacture lights as to where again Godox most certain does manufacture their lights ! Marketing bloat is all Aperture and Stella have to offer ! Two of those SLB 60’s should over power the sun also !

On the Forza we're always gonna be good to go .....cuz NPF batteries are always readily available. Great vid Markus. Thx.

I've had four of my Stellas for five years now and they are as powerful as the day I bought them. I'm sure if that time ever came, the company can replace the batteries (for a cost of course). Stella's are not for poverty conscious people. It's kind of like people who buy Ferraris know when the time comes to change the engine belts, the engine has to be taken out. Just accepted par for the course.

The Bitlighter isn't that bright, but it is high CRI daylight balanced light that doesn't flicker and can be smoothly adjusted for brightness. It's best for night time on the town and isn't really bright enough for daylight use. The Forza is MUCH MUCH brighter, but has irritating battery attachment. If you want to be mobile with small self contained unit, I recommend the WellMaking mentioned in this video czcams.com/video/Kx9Ag6UKnUM/video.html

    Nanlite Forza 60 2884lux
    Godox ML60 3040lux
    Sokani S60 v2 3002 lux

The Nanlite battery box is sold separately and comes without batteries or a charger. This means you also have to buy at least 2 NP-F type batteries and at least one charger (best a double charger) before you can use the Nanlite Forza 60. This makes a Godox a whole lot cheaper because there you already have the battery and charger.

All of you are very professional, but I am not, and would like to know what everyone thinks of GoPro. I am starting a web site for people who like historic homes, so I need to have good portability. Thank you soooo much!

A GoPro HERO8 Black might be good enough for you. I don't think they are good quality unless you record in the highest settings and at 4K. The batteries don't last very long either. They are more made for action recording to get stable footage that doesn't shake, they are easy to use, they are waterproof, and they are small and light weight so that you can mount them anywhere easily. I guess you would have to explain what you will be recording exactly to get a better idea if that is what you should get.

giancolabird, I assume you're talking about video, not still photography with the GoPro. To add to Starship Ghost's comments, those little action-cams have such a small sensor that the image can get pretty noisy fast indoors. If you're entering the historic homes for a tour, you may want to consider a larger sensor, but still portable camera. I'm thinking something like a Sony a6400, a6500, or a6600, with a Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. I've filmed 4k video in very dark situations with that set-up and had fantastic looking video. But that said, don't let your gear hold you back. If you have a GoPro, get out and start shooting with it. You can always upgrade later if you aren't satisfied with your results. Cheers and best of luck!

I don't have that problem- they have never overheated on me and they run sometimes for an hour, but they are sometimes plugged in, maybe it's different than if they just run on batteries only
