Smallest Most Powerful Portable Video Light in the World

- The brightest smallest battery powered continuous light in the world, great for outdoors, location shooting, videos, vlogging, wedding photographers and campers is the size of an apple but just as powerful as an Aputure 120Dii with fresnel lens! No big heavy V-mount batteries needed, just a 100w USB-C battery you can get on Amazon. I love these so much, they are awesome for location vlogging. I immediately got 3 of them. It has some fan noise, but that can be easily eliminated with software when editing because it's a steady tone. The name of this little wonder? The Stella Reflex but Light and Motion. It is half the size and price of the current most powerful battery powered small video light- the Light and Motion Stella CLX with fresnel. Also featured in this video are other favorite battery powered video lights I have and recommend (and some I don't recommend). Here are links...

I never thought someone would be obsessed with light I love the content and honesty ❤❤❤
Now this is a man who truly loves camera gear.
I've see photographers use the Stella Reflex with the battery grip and wondered if it was more of a gimic light. But now with Markus's demo hack, using a 100w USB-C battery makes this really the best high output light that's super portable. I have the Canon R5 and I have often been tasked to shot video along with my photography. I never planned on being a hybrid shooter but the needs of my clients have moved me in that direction. The Stella Reflex will replace my GMV light panels that are just too weak for sunny days. Thanks Markus!
What a well done review! Very complete and thoughtfully considered. It was great to see the range of lights sizes and power.
This is the kind of video equipment reviews we need. Aputure is nice but to have a smaller light that’s just as powerful is great for smaller rooms
Thanks again Markus. Really appreciate all the time and effort to help us. Happy holidays in advance to you guys.
Great video! I appreciate all the examples you included and showing us the light in action in so many different scenarios. Really useful! I'm not really in the market for a light right now but if I were I'd definitely be looking at that one.
Dude!! I literally just bought the Aperture Amaran 60d and used it for a daytime outdoor snowshoe commercial shoot!! It was literally for 1 or 2 scenes but It was the lightest and most portable light and it works SOOOO GOOOODDDDD!!! I am so glad I purchased that light, it goes with me everywhere I know I’ll need light. I just need to pick up the aperture fresnel and the original dish and I think I’m going to get a second 60D to be 100% honest. I love it
Those new lights are nice looking. Love the battery hack. Always appreciate the comparisons and examples👍👍
What I find the most impressive about these lights is that even Sharkcookie went out of his way of almost never talking about the gear he uses to really praise the lights, and now Markus is telling some really warm words. I have checked and it seems like this might be a bit of a hassle to find the correct version in Europe.
Loved the comparisons, explanations and visual examples
Merry X-mas Markus. Thank you for all you fun and helpful videos.
Thanks for another great video. Im always on the lookout for portable video lights.
Excellent comparison vid. Lots of useful information. Thanks for all of the insights.
Appreciate the demos, great stuff!
Thanks, this review it's awesome! I was looking for a good comparison like this for months! Thanks thanks thanks 🙏
Thank you for making this video. I have been looking for a dedicated light for my photography. I like that you have included the pricing as well as the power of each light. Now all I have to do is weigh the cost versus my needs.
Excellent video Markus - Thanks for sharing!!!
So helpful bro. Your videos are different from others in a way that they feel like I am getting advice in person. You answer the questions that I had in my mind. :) I think you really mean to help people. :)
That is an incredible little light! I will add one of these to my Christmas wishlist. The nice thing about them being so small is I could tuck them up into my ceiling, so they are out of the way and providing a nice second angle of lighting.
B&H is selling them for $389 this week holiday special instead of $650

Thank you for another well organized well delivered enjoyable informative video. Love your work.
Great review. Thanks for sharing your experiences with these lights.
Always nice to see some unbiased review, thank you!
Thank you for making this video!
Man I miss using proper lighting, it’s so nostalgic watching you talk about these lights. Might have to start thinking about adding some portable lights to my travel kit!
Thank you. Great comparison and explanation. I saw the light in action recently and was only mostly impressed for to price, but black Friday is showing some good savings.
Excellent information. Thank you!
Great content as usual. Thank you!
This the first video I've watched of you. I'm impressed with youer collection of lights haha!
Markus has an impressive collection of almost ANY video/photo related items!! :)
thank you so much for your reviews!!!😃
Also nice to see you're still tinkering with tech, congrats on the 100k 🔥
I can't afford to go down this rabbit hole 😅 I always enjoy your lighting videos
Thanks so much. I don't have any camera or video stores around me at all. Most have shut down in my state . This is what we all need. Great video, great information, great presentation.
This is amazing! Thank you Markus 🙂
Great review is the BEST ever! on all youtube, you rock!
Your tutorial videos are world class
Cool video men!!! Thanks 🤘🏻
Dude! I was doing my own research on this!!! So awesome to see you posted a video about it. My youtube algorythm helped me with this one xD
I tried the StellaPro Reflex S when it was almost double the current price. Never could get it to work in flash mode and it was a bit too pricey to use as a continuous light source, so I returned it. It was marketed at the time as having a flash mode capable of firing up to 20 fps, which I wanted to use for dance photography.
it does flash up to 20x per burst, but its nowhere near as bright as a real flash. But its great as a constant light
Always watching your videos man!! I wish to have the stella Pro but im here in the philippines . Anyway more power to your channel
Your videos=The best, most informative and valuable. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that!
@@MarkusPix true story. 🙏😉👀🎥💯
Update: The Amaran 60D DOES take V-mount batteries with a D-tap cable. Aputure told me it doesn't but it does. (that's not the featured light in this video though)
Unless it has changed, their solution is a DTAP cable. For whatever reason they decided to sell it separately. Yet, it's not very optimal solution because a big enough battery adds slightly too much weight to one side. Why didn't they put the mount on the rear? Also guess what, it also acts like a reverse pendulum with a big battery attached :)
I'd still say it's my favourite of all the lights I own.
Thank you, Markus. Obrigado pelas dicas !
Amazing little led
Thank you so much!
This channel is awesome, im trying to save up money to get my first camera. I have been watching 10 or 15 of the most popular photography channels and this is by far the best 1! I hope to get my first camera by the end of next year so I can start taking pictures and video.
Welcome aboard! My channel likes to feature smaller, simpler less expensive stuff than the others. They're more fun and less show-offy 😋 I like to show what amazing things can be done with things that other people laugh at.
@@MarkusPix Awesome thank you I appreciate your help and your channel. Every time I seem to get even a hundred dollars saved up something seems to happen. I'm sure eventually it will get better. 🙂, this is by far the best channel with the most helpful information. I try taking photos and videos with my phone to practice I can't wait until I get a real camera. I go play with the Sony cameras at my local big box store all the time. Anyways thanks for making great content I can't imagine what it's like being able to use such amazing equipment!
Excellent Info thank you. I really appreciate your enthusiasm.
Thanks for sharing.
I love those lights! Dang
Love this guy's videos. He's awesome
ty for the video, very helpful
Great Video!
Better Call Markus! 🤣thanks dude! great video!
Thank you!
Hey Markus, great video. I hope you don't mind me asking, but I am curious to know how long the Stella lasts using the battery pack?
I havent been able to access my account. So i am lucky to get it back and found your videos. It was wonderful that we can save by buying the product already tested for us. Thanks buddy
The amaran 60D does take vmount batteries but I think it's the 14 volt ones and you need to buy the Dtap cable seperately.

1 sub closer to 100k my brother!. How have I never seen your channel before?!?
Amazing content!
That was so much useful information. The Chinese are just killing it these days with all the affordable choices. I’m using one Rotolight Aeos and two Neos LED light (mark I and mark II) without utilizing the lame flash option. They have since doubled the light output from previous models. I love the Neo because I can pack two of them in my Billingham camera bags front pockets. I use the somewhat portable Dynalite Baja studio strobes. Otherwise.
Uhmmm Stella Reflex isnt Chinese. They are based in California
I use a nitecore TUP, 200 lm and 1000lm turbo when pressing a button, super small "keychain" light and it attaches easy to a open gopro frame which is mounted on the hot shoe.small and easy enough as a light for macro stuff and even indoors, but ofc too weak for anything more distant.
Thanks for comparison. Going for Amaran 60d
Love watching your videos Markus. I just saw the Zhiyun Molus that just came out and it's tiny at 60W. Thought you might like it.
czcams.com/video/s_lEnCUt6Kc/video.html
Very good presentation 🎉😊
Markus, it would be nice to see your take on lighting choices for the amateur on holiday. Being more of a hybrid shooter, stills and video and being limited by the 7kg on board limit, lighting is a real problem and if you can bring it along it goes in checked baggage. I'm making do with available light but want to improve portraiture and have a Godox TT685 and a T2 but haven't used it due to the weight issue. I would like to add an AD200 to the kit but I also like these tiny video lights shown here. Being semi-retired I mainly do slow-paced travel, people and birds which again severely limits lens choices. For birds I use natural lighting with editing in post but video might need benefit from lighting and I would want to start using flash for portraits of local people. What to do?
czcams.com/video/539qBoSDoVk/video.html
Nice background paint :)
I got my amaran 60d to work with a v mount but I had to search out the cable for it. Aputure has it on their website but it’s sold out a lot of the time
YOU, sir, are the brightest light on CZcams!
LOL - keep it up.
Nanlight forza 60, incredible little light with ease of battery use, adaptability, travel friendly. I take 3 of these with me in a carryon, with camera and clothes.
So cool!
I saw this Stella Reflex on CZcams a few weeks back. Unfortunately no one in Australia sells it.
Now that the electricity is super high expensive i guess led lights strobes for video is maby the one to go and they dond even have a fan? What can you recommend from low budget to more expensive one?
Thanks.
Very Nice!
Can I ask what are the flashlights seen on your video? Is there a more detailed review of those? I’m interested in stills )
I would compare the Stella Reflex Pro S to a Aputure LS 60d. The flash is decent but not as bright as a strobe. I use a couple of these for weddings. If you want it softer you gotta use an umbrella. Currently working on a 3d printed mount to accommodate magmod accessories.
The LS60D is not a small portable battery powered light
@@MarkusPix agree I meant to say in terms of light output
Well yeah there are all kinds of normal lights that put out the same or much more light, but they have to be plugged into the wall and are not small and portable.
How's the 3d printing going? @paps ny
I use a very hot Halogen Stand Work Light and a trouble Work Light with Metal Cage and Hook, 75W.
Looking for another source of lighting. LOL I need to get one of the lights you suggest.
Your background noise filtering is so good. What software did you use?
czcams.com/video/Gs6Yh1TfU20/video.html
@@MarkusPix Thanks!
Also Clarity Vx is super cheap and effective and is literally just 1 dial. Also, Resolve now has a voice isolation feature in 18.1 that eliminates non-dialogue sounds.
Can you do a review on Rotolight? I would love to hear your honest view of this product. I trust what you say because you don’t hold nothing back good or bad.
Thanks for this video, after watching your video i ordered HL 800c. My light well-making hl800c arrived today. I loved it. Although it is very small as compared to my Godox video light but still have accessories and needed to carry around. I am looking for a suitable case for this, can you suggest some carrying case for HL 800c.
You can also use V-mount batteries with a d-tap connector, or instead of a single 14.8v Wellmaking battery, you can use two 7.4 volt normal NP batteries with the supplied battery plate. A very versatile light. I just ordered a 4th one myself!
I never knew those large lights or flashlights have a fan built in. Interesting 🙃
hey Markus... did you see the latest video light yongnuo released? I really wanted to see you reviewing it. and there are some 135w cheap lights from andoer I really wish you to take a look... Here in Brazil things cost like 10x more than they would in the States... so we end up going for the budget version unless we are making money out of it. If at some point you do another video lights review and add those would help a lot... specially for external shooting with the yongnuo ones
There are so many lights out there now. The yongnuo is not as small as it looks plus it has that annoying separate handle with battery holder just like the Nanlite forza in my video- definitely not tiny. The Andoer, which is a studio light, not a small battery powered light to take hiking. It requires plug in power, made for indoors.
Went and purchased the Stella reflex pro recently because of your review. One major thing you forgot to mention was that it only actually works about 3 minutes in the sun before it shuts down from over heating.
For video. Not camera flash
Hmm. I never had that problem. I did a half hour interview outdoors here in Las Vegas with one.
@@MarkusPix maybe because I’m running at full power ? Definitely shuts off in 5 min max and won’t turn back on
Good one!
I wonder if that little reflector on the Amarand 60D on an AD600? I’m assuming it would keep the power and would be great for transporting with a good reflector
Good question Greg! Here are the results
Basic pebbled reflector bare 16.7
Basic pebbled reflector w diffusor 16.7
Prism reflector bare 22.7
Prism reflector w diffusor 16.9
60d reflector bare 22.1
60d reflector w diffusor 16.9
You have to shave the pegs down a bit to make it fit into the AD600 and I wish they made a frosted plastic diffusor that snaps onto the front of the little 60d reflector like the AD600 reflector. But yes, you get comparable output from a smaller size. Keep asking great questions!
...this guy's good. very good. a whirlwind of energy, information and knowledge. hope to meet him, someday...
Thanks for comparing fan sound levels
Have you seen the Backscatter 4300?
Im thinking of getting one
Holy shit, again you spend a fortune on gear so we don't have to. Legend. You are a real character Marcus, enjoy your vlog. Don't envy the pack down.
Hey. I’m searching for few days to find some small and movement light to take video while skate. And this video so fking cool what i found.
I want a couple Amaran 60D's..
My buddy has a couple of these.. they work very well
Filing awesome dude love your video thanks for the info I’m deff on the same age as you light small powerful let’s hit the jungle of the montain peace ✌️
How long will the battery pack you recommend power the light?
Hi i have amaran 60x light . Which Fresnel lens is suitable for it kindly help me with this .if any link would be great so I can buy .thanks
Extremely Good Video.
Any good CZcams link for removing the fan noise.
Regards.
czcams.com/video/Gs6Yh1TfU20/video.html
Markus, please demonstrate how you get rid of the noise.
its as noisy as get out.... but - ok - you pointed that out - there is always ups and downs to all this tech - another great review - this time of portable video lights........ top notch - overpowering the sun..... not easy.....
11:33 - Love it but I have to ask how exactly do you remove all of that background noise? What software/plug-in are you using?
