    As someone who's been watching a number of post-debate analyses from the Democrats and anti-Trumper side, I can tell you what I've seen thus far:
    After a few initial moments of panic last night, by this morning most of them were scrambling back onto the Titanic. The prevailing apologetic theme is that this was just "one bad night." No worries. Just look at his outstanding performance at a North Carolina rally this morning! See? Everything's fine! It almost has a copy/paste, bot army feel to it.
    All because one man is too lacking in integrity, wisdom or humility to step aside and let someone else steer the ship away from the iceberg. We're f@cking doomed.

    • @explrr22
      @explrr22 Před 18 dny

      Part of the problem can be when your powers of assessment are slipping, they especially slip on yourself. My Mom was sharp well past 90, but there's been a surprisingly large decline in the last year or two.
      It's been a lot of difficult and at times somewhat argumentative discussions, because there are good days and bad days, and certain times of day are usually better than others. She can find arguments that are valid, that other things are causing the difficulties.
      Undoubtedly I could have, and arguably should have, done the job better and put more into it.
      It would have been nice if Mom was more supportive, but it's hardly a grave character failure on her part.
      It's mostly on me.
      There's rarely clear lines, but even without Alzheimer's there's all kinds of ongoing physiological deterioration associated with blood flow etcetera that progresses us into different abilities to evaluate things proficiently. The scary thing is, once you're looking for it, it seems clear to me it's a sort of ongoing decline from midlife or earlier onwards. Wisdom and acquired skill can counterbalance and even tip things to positive for many, many years, but that only works for some individuals and for only so long ...
      The points of functional thresholds will differ between individuals for reasons of the environment, genetics and biology.
      It's perhaps always too risky to be putting the 70+ and older class in certain like positions.
      However, we also need to improve our dealing with the reality of self assessment losses whenever they occur. FWIW... A co-aging spouse can sometimes actually make things worse, as they can also have lost assessment capabilities, and might reinforce their partners bad self assessment. It's the more capable individuals that really are failing us.
