      I once respected him. And then he called for Trump to be given the death penalty for treason , having colluded with Russia. On Trump’s third day in office! Whether or not one loves or despises Trump, what the hell kind of insane comment is that? Worse, he meant it. This is an arbiter of Constitutionalism? Of our justice system? Which it has since become.

    The guy you want in power is the guy who'll respect the voters decision and get the hell out of there when the voters say so. Trump ain't that guy, therefore anybody with any kind of political chops whose willing to play by the rules, rather than rewrite them, is qualified in my view.

    I learned a lot from George Will. Back in the 90's he wrote that good parenting is parenting against the culture. He was right then and today it is a no brainer but his was early detection of a serious problem. Thanks George.

    I find the argument that all of this is free speech is true in the abstract but bankrupt practically: those who enjoy the good fortune to have more money should also enjoy more speech? Strikes me as profoundly anti-democratic.

      Trump negotiated 130k NDA and paid out of his personal account. Clinton negotiated an 850k NDA and paid for it out of campaign finances. The former is illegal because he's a Republican. The latter is okay because he is a Democrat.

More than TWO MAJOR parties will have honesty advantages eg .as in setting up coalitions and /or withdrawing their support if they concluded it to be an advantage by replacing the governing majority party .

    Listening to George Will is quite distressing. He seems to think that America’s justice system going after Trump is a political matter. If you don’t count the other cases, maybe, just maybe you could make that argument. But the other cases are slam dunk cases - Where is George’s mind?

    Back in the 60s there were leftists and anti leftists. Just like in the 1930s there were either commies or nazis. George I suspect was an anti leftist. People seem to adopt a point of view then fight hard to retain it throughout their lives. I've been an FDR liberal my whole life and I'm 70. He was the last American statesman. Subsequent presidents have been increasingly disappointments. FDR was a patrician who thought of country first, not social class.

    If Biden doesn't do a late-in-season Truman-LBJ abdication at the convention in August , what if instead he pulls an FDR '44? If this election becomes a selection of Vice Presidents as much as Presidents, then should we all be anticipating that Biden replaces Kamala Harris from the ticket the way FDR replaced Henry Wallace with Harry Truman? What if the scenario is Biden giving Kamala Harris an Attorney General position and the VP position then goes to someone like Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland?

    George represents the noblesse oblige waspocracy that founded this country. Meanwhile the worlds gotten colder and meaner in its politics and economics and smaller in its ruling elites but with a larger population that only now appears to shrink. International corporations and hedge funds do not spread largesse . World oligopolies are not democratic but more fascistic . They tell you through campaign finance laws what to think and who to vote for. The east west struggle is still over oil and gas and it hasnt changed since pre ww1.     We must get to the place where we can actually have another choice than the two parties. Ranked choice voting would help as would getting rid of the electoral college. Perhaps then we could even make changes to our system that could even bring about some semblance of a Democracy instead of the mess we have now.

    Everyone should go vote, and they should only vote for candidates they find acceptable. It won’t take many people at all doing this to right the ship of state. Both parties will quickly run for the center once they realize that there’s a 5 or 10 percent bloc of voters who will only vote for responsible adults.
    Combine that with not voting for incumbents when they haven’t achieved good things, and the clowns will all but disappear.

      When there are only two candidates one is going to win whether you vote for one of them or not. Even if the majority of people just not vote for the president but vote other offices, one of these two will still win and you proved nothing. One of these candidates instigated a couple attempt and one hasn't. One candidate is working with other democratic world leaders and one says he won't. One candidate is not interfering when his own son is on trial and the other promises retribution against anyone who is against him. You can choose not to vote for either but one will still win. You should vote for the one who still believes in democracy.

    At first, I had decided not to vote in national elections. Then as I witnessed MAGAs justify Trump's every misdeed I became very alarmed and decided I would vote Republican in state & local elections and, with passionate reluctance, Democrat in the national elections. Now, listening to this, my calculation has changed. I will be following George Will's evolving opinion. If Trump surrounds himself with smart people in George Will's estimation, I will consider the election a wash and refrain from voting for Biden. Nothing short of a gun to my head would ever persuade me to vote for Donald Trump, the American Hugo Chavez.

    I will always respect George (and the Dispatch) for failing to sell their souls in order to grasp on to power. However, I find that by equating Biden and Trump like this, they are giving a permission structure to others to vote again for Trump. They need to take the final (yes, difficult) step and say that, due to the existential threat posed by Trump, they have to vote for Biden, as much as they hate his politics. THAT would be true moral courage.

    Not to vote is an opinion, but it is the wrong one. We still have to live in this country and in this world and depending on who is in the White House we could have a miserable life and the world on the fire or we could have reasonable administration with reasonable measures to improve Americans lives and to stop those raging wars. When you do not vote you, like Pontius Pilatus, wash your hands in the critical situation. There is also an option to vote against. I will vote against Biden and Kamala Harris and their incompetent administration.
