@ 6:30 looks like some
Gas leaking out. Hope you got that checked. Love your street bob
Yeah I knew someone with a watchful eye would say that. I spilled a little petrol on the tank and hosed it off before starting the bike. That's water you can see.
Maybe Harley should listen to you with this mod!
Bro, when my wife asks where the money went, I’m blaming you 😂. That tank looks beautiful. As always, great vid. Inspirational. Thx.
Thanks man 👍
Hahaha was nice knowing ya mate, think I'm a goner when my wife sees this vid 🤣🤣🤣
@@TheGingybeardMan Hey man. I wanted to ask you if the saddlemen step up seat still fits after the softail slim tank is installed?
This was the one I’ve been waiting for, brilliant job
I can't believe how much that change the look. Great idea.
It sure did, I couldn't be happier with the swap 👍
Love how you’re rocking the stock seat again !
Brother! Thank you so much for the well detailed video! I had a lot of questions about this process. Will look into doing this in the future. Bike looks awesome as always!
Love it. Thank you for posting this. Thinking about doing this for my fatbob
Looks so much better,no more range anxiety.
Really love your content man, I just bought an FXBB myself and it's great seeing another Aussies journey with it.
Thanks mate, congrats on getting the bike 👍
What a difference a tank makes! I like that new tank much more than the original one. Well done! :-)
Oh man LOVE THE LOOK of the FLSL slim tank on the bob! Excellent vid as always and my wife loves the leather bib!
Thanks mate, I'm really diggen the custom look of the leather bib 👌
Man Doc, you are a modification maniac !!! There aren't very many people on CZcams putting out mods with high quality and attention to detail as you.
Keep Doing What You're Doing DOC !!!
Great Content !!!
Thanks mate appreciate it. Yeah I've got an incurable problem with modding this bike 🤣🤣🤣
Why can't I just leave it alone and be happy.
Phenomenal paint job. Wow that looks amazing!!
Thanks Sir
Love watching your videos. Got myself a 48 sportster and been scared to do mods myself. Thought swapping tanks was way harder then this 😱 thanks man. Gives me confidence to start doing bigger mods myself
The 48 Sporties are really cool looking bikes man. Great to hear the vid was able to inspire you to start giving bigger mods a crack 👍
definetly gives it more profile!!! Good job mate and thnaks so much for sharing this video!
Thanks mate, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out
Luv the mods you have done on this scoot, well thought out!
Thanks mate 🙌
I know this an old video and the OP has moved on from this bike, but this video was extremely helpful for me doing the 5 gallon conversion myself.
Glad to hear brother. Thanks for the positive feedback.
Did exactly the same mod few months ago, loving the look & the extra fuel range mate, u won’t be disappointed 👍🏍👍🏍
Definantly wnt be missing the stock tank mate 👍
That looks mean! Great upgrade 💯
That was actually easier than I thought it would be. I actually like the look of the 5 gallon slim tank way better too. That’s a great mod, and one I’ll need if I can ever save up the money for the Stage IV kit. Thank you.
Rob
BADASS!!!!! I've been waiting for someone to do this on CZcams . You've done an awesome job on you bike. Gonna put the same tank on my fxbb.
Thanks man, I definantly recommend the upgrade I think it looks great 👍
Looks great 👍 the stock tank never really sat right on the new street bob. This just blends in and takes you back to the dyna-a long standing model that had years of development to get it looking just right. Brilliant mod!
Thanks John, I much prefer the look of this tank.
Awesome job!
Did the same thing with an old low rider s tank. Used the old fuel pump and ground off the dash mounts. Works perfect
Hey so I’m actually in the process of doing this!? But my question is, so you used your old streetbob fuel pump? And did you notice any issues?
Looks awesome! Well done!
Thanks mate 👍
Wow, That looks sick!!
That bike looks so much better with the slim tank!
Now you went n made me wanna do that to my 2023 street bob !!!!
You won't regret it. Looks much better in my opinion and the added fuel range is awesome
Very nice work man.
Yeppers
bigger tank is so nice-- really gives the bike a nice waist where it interfaces with the seat. well done and as always, inspiring.
Thanks mate, I couldn't be happier hey
Thanks for the help, bike looks great.
Thanks mate 🙌
love it much nicer looking and better range
Just bought a 2019 street bob as my first bike and wish it had the 5gal tank. Thinking of changing it too. Looks awesome! 👌🏼👌🏼
Yeah I'm hearing you, I got sick of filling it everytime I hoped on it.
Nice upgrade! tank bib makes the bike custom
Thanks Dan, yeah I think it's a nice custom addition too
Keep up the good work man
Love ur build!
Cheers mate, there's a never ending list 🤣🤣
@@TheGingybeardMan I hear u there bro
The softail bob tank is one the big reasons I chose my 2015 dyna.
The dyna just looks a bit more aggressive and bad ass.
Great channel love your work dude 🤘
Thanks man, appreciate the support 🤘
Game changer for long rides
Sure is man, I was getting tired of fueling up every time I threw a leg over it
Looks awesome!!!
Cheers Carlos 🍻
Awesome vid brother!!! PLEASE KEEP IT UP!
Thanks mate, there's still loads to come 🤘🤘
looks so much better
Hello from Sweden. Great video.
Thanks man 👍
Damn that looks way better. Nice job👍👍
Thanks Dave 👍
Great to see an Oz CZcamsr doing HD vids... Onya !!
Cheers mate 👍
Great content as always! I’m so glad you went for the bobber route instead of the club style.
Thanks Tom, yeah I'm glad I did the backflip and changed the style. I'm really loving the look now 🤘
@@TheGingybeardMan What’s next? 😀
@@rebel_ltz probably a different style rear fender I reckon. I really like those stretched rear fenders
@@TheGingybeardMan Nice! This wide tank would look great with a really short fender as well. :)
I have been waiting for a vid like this, looking to do the same for my 18 fxbb!
Mike 😁
Looks good mate! 👌
Thanks mate 🤘
Looks great 👍🇦🇺
Where ya from ?☺️
Man its great to see someone do the install on video, I found that the slim, fxdrs, and sport glide tanks fit via HD Forums but its nice to see how it looks on video. My biggest concern with this upgrade was that the tank is lightly longer than stock, I can see you dont have that gap between your seat which is fine for a stock seat but the Saddlemen Step-Up seat actually fills that space on the stock tank. I wish I had a buddy with a softail slilm that I could do a test fit with lol
Yes I believe the saddleman step up seat which fits the stock tank wouldn't work with this slim tank as the slim tank is longer.
Nice! Sweet lookin' 🛵
Great video! Bike looks thick great job👍🏻
Thanks man, I much prefer the look of this tank 🤘
@@TheGingybeardMan honestly on video makes the bike almost look like slim looks great with your bars too 👍🏻 I’ve just ordered the 14” can’t wait
It looks dam good!!
Thanks Mike
Looks great and a pretty straightforward swap out.
Thanks Harold, it Was an easy swap 👍
Looks sick brother
Thanks man 👌
I also got a tank bib from Chris at three mutts for the same swap. He does great work.
He sure does, Chris is such a nice bloke aswell. Was very helpful and patient with me for the design of my bib 👍
LOVE IT!
Great video, glad to know when I do the same
Thank you sir 👍
This video might be the answer to my problems
Turned out nice man like the leather strap u added nice touch 👍
Thanks mate, I couldn't be happier with how the leather strap turned out 👍
I own a sreet bob same Fram I am going to do the same thank you for the great tip
Just a suggestions put a washer on the bottom of the tank bib.. looks great! 👌🏾
You are a savior! Tank swapping asap
You are going to want a hand tooled leather seat next, that tank looks awesome.
I was just thinking that too 👍
Three mutt also made my bib.. incredible work
I agree, Chris is a great bloke and does amazing leather work 👍
That is beautiful, and a genius upgrade. You’ve earned my subscription. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks mate, one of my favourite mods to date.
Dang kewl!!
I was doing some research on the Thunder max ECU. I came across this document about resetting the distance to empty. I know it had to do with their ECU and say touring but they list this as same as our bikes but you can try it sans swapping out ECUs.
Turn ON both the RUN (rocker) switch and the MAIN KEY switch (ignition switch)
to begin.
1. Pull the “MAIN” Maxi fuse.
2. Temporarily disconnect the TMax module from the main harness connector.
3. Connect the Stock ECM.
4. Hold the “trip” button down while re-installing the main fuse.
5. Speedometer should light up and appear as though it is locked up.
6. Release the “trip” button and turn the main key switch “OFF “.
7. Turn the main key switch on then, using the trip button, verify “R LO” is displayed
in the odometer window when cycling through the options.
8. Turn ONLY the main key / ignition switch “OFF”.
9. Remove the ECM fuse, re-connect the TMax module and replace the ECM fuse.
DO NOT PULL THE MAIN FUSE FOR THIS PROCESS.
10. Turn the main key switch on. If “R LO” does not appear repeat the process.
11. Re-initialize the ECM by cycling the main key switch on for 20 seconds
uninterrupted, then OFF for 5 seconds.
12. Range should start working in roughly 50 miles; you will need to use a tank of
fuel to normalize reading.
Jim 🧐
Looks good man, good to know you can get a bigger tank for it
Thanks mate, all of the m8 softail tanks are interchangeable as all the m8 softails run the same frames, it's just the bolt on parts like forks swingarm etc which are different between the models 👍
Hey Bro
Excellent video and explanation looks damn cool.
Doc Harley is always helpful.
All the best brother from NZ
Thanks Dave, I'm stoked with how it came out 👍
@@TheGingybeardMan And so you should be great job brother.
I want to replace my Fat Bob 2019 tank too. Your tank looks amazing.
Thanks man, you could do the exact same swap on the fat bob as the frames are the same 👍 onky thing to be mindful of is whether the fat bob seat would work with this tank.
Don't look half bad. The ole slim shady tank on the bobinator trick..........nice!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like it!
Thanks mate 👍
@@TheGingybeardMan this is on my to do list. Looks super easy. You swapped the fuel pump from the old to the new on the bottom?
@@JasonSpiffy yes sir I used the fuel pump suited for the softail slim tank. You can use the fuel pump that's in the street bob tank but the fuel pick up won't reach all the fuel rendering the swap pointless in my opinion.
@@TheGingybeardMan and this is why I ask questions. lol thanks for the knowledge.
nice 1 mate
Cheers mate 🤘
Oh man i've been wanting to do the same, definitely using your video as reference.
I've been wanting to do this for so long. It's a bloody costly mod but worth it in my opinion 👍
@@TheGingybeardMan absolutely worth it, the only drawback to the street bob is the tank size, in my opinion. Does the computer know theres more fuel in the tank? Like will it give accurate distance until empty with the bigger tank?
@@srqamt that's a great question mate, the softail slim fuel pump has a different fuel level sensor so I believe it should read more kms on the range before empty. That said I've heard a few blokes who have done this mod on the Facebook forum, say the slim tank doesn't show more km range on the gauge and believe that is due to the ECM needing to be flashed to show the correct fuel range. Another bloke however stated his bike showed the correct range with this swap so I'm yet to find out.
@@TheGingybeardMan well hey keep us posted man! Thanks for being the guinea pig
@@TheGingybeardMan Can we get an update on this please?
Now time to change out that rear wheel well and that bike is "Bad Ass"
Hey chief, the look of the 5 gallon Slim fuel tank on the Street Bob is more appropriate size-wise to the bike. Now I know what mod I plan to do on mine asap! Mine is "performance orange". I'll change the plug wires to the H-D Phat 10mm in the orange with black lettering with the E3 spark plugs.😁👍🏍️ Maybe have the 5 spoke mag wheels done in the orange to match as well! That's for an excellent presentation of the task, it was very well explained and shown how to be done!⭐⭐⭐👍🏍️ Doug
Thanks Douglas. Nice one your bike's going to killer. Ride safe brother 🤟
It looks mean man!
Thanks brosef 👍
Great video. I'm waiting for the "my wife just left me video" LOL just kidding, as always love your content and keep it up!
Hahahaha I feel like that vid is coming shortly mate
Yup. Looks way better. The tanknis why I didn't get a sporty. That and only 5 gears.
Looks tough brother 🤙🤙🇳🇿🇳🇿
As always thanks Nath, appreciate it 🤘
Greet video.
Thanks Stephen 👍
Cool
Where ya from ?☺️
Love the gas tank but was wondering if you knew whether or not you could also exchange the speedometer. I've been wondering about the tank exchange for awhile now. Really glad that it can be done. I think that's one of the first mods I'm gonna do when I get my street bob next year. Thanks for the video.
Yes you can definantly use the speedometer as I've seen other guys do it. It may be a case of having the ECM flashed to suit it 👍
i picked a stainless TBR off this guy on gumtree for my street bob and he had softail s 5 gallon tank sitting on bench with flush mount caps ,i ended up buy it as well ,,,,he has a second 5 gallon put away , he fitted a street bob tank to his misses softail s , just need pump
Good stuff mate, nice find 👍
The pumps pretty bloody expensive.
I keep asking myself, as to why Harley Davidson is putting small gas tanks on these newer bikes.!? Anyway, you did exactly what I would have done.! Looks good and that's what should have been on it in the first place
Makes the bike look more meaty nice
Good instructional vid, however I prefer the stock tank.
Mike Land 😨
Harley Davidson would have a real winner with this one if they made a larger tank optional so this is an essential mod. I have a Sportster with the small tank and it's iconic, but I know to never take it on a tour with anyone who's not planning to stop often anyway.
The tank is the one thing I don't like about the StreetBob. I didn't like the looks of this bigger tank when you first put it on. but that bib changed it entirely. It just looked to flat and wide. I can't believe the bib made that much of a difference. Great job.
Thanks mate, I really love the look of the bib hey 👍
Great.
Thanks mate
At 6:26-26 and again at 6:30 I saw some fuel dripping out.
Just letting you know so you can make sure your fuel lines are tight.
The new tank and bib look great.
I spilled a little petrol on the tank ehen filling it up and hosed it off before starting the bike. That's water you can see, I didn't show that in the edit. I've received another comment 're the same. Thanks anyway 👍
Eric 🧐
Great video as usual, but personally i like the tank without the leather strip, what you need now is a pair of CVO bar and shield tank badges
Thanks mate, I've seen people use a metal strip instead of a tank bib. The reason i went for a tank bib was to block off the gap at the bottom of the tank because it sticks out and looks unfinished without something filling the gap
@@TheGingybeardMan
I know what you mean, i have a Slim with the bobber saddle and the strip finished abruptly and i was worried about that, but i dont think it looks bad at all. If you post me your email i can send you some photos to show you ?
proper street bob now
Where ya from ?☺️
@@laurie3546 bama
@@spikespiegel7964 How old are you ? It’s nice 😊 meeting ya 😂😊
@@laurie3546 old enough to not fall for the honey pot
What bolt did you use to hold the tank bib down?
It doesn’t really look that much bigger once installed. Very cool.
Chris ☺️
So how does the digital fuel gauge read the tank?? Might of missed that part and if it does how accurate is it.
Yes the bars on the meter have decent accuracy. The fuel range on the estimate for miles left is pretty off.
👍👍
does the bigger tank fit with an aftermarket seat? The Saddlemen step up seat I have on my street bob fills in the gap between the stock tank and the seat.
I have no idea mate, best to.message sadlemen to see if there street bob seat and softail slim seat are the same length. This tank, stock seat and rear fender is now the exact same set up as the softail slim
Instead of tape install some soft deerskin or felt to keep the bib from moving too much and providing a soft contact that will protect the paint. That tank looks great! H-D needs to just make this change on the 2022 models.
Thanks mate.
I think hook and loop tape/ Velcro would do a great job in securing the bib.
Tank looks awesome. GaMike 82fxwg
