- Got my forward controls installed on my new 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Bob. This kit will also fit on the new Softail Standard. This video is just an overview of the kit itself and my impressions of it after riding the bike with them on for a couple days.

I had that set put on my softail standard and it gave me the legroom I was needing. I can't ride with my legs bent at 90 degrees. Made all the difference for long ride comfort.
Nice choice bro. For tall people, forward controls become your mid controls...you can handle corners with ease.
Thanks especially for your feelings about the forward controls vs mid. I’m trying to figure out what works for me and having your input really helps. Thanks!
Man, that is such a good looking bike! Next one on my list, for sure.
Progress , woot , woot , now you are on your way , you will love it more , and more , with everything you do . Owning , and fixing up a Harley-Davidson is a great rush , excitement on every twist of a fastener , is the only measurement , next to the grin on your face , vlog on , and ride safe . Thanks for sharing .
i couldn't agree more! 2 months ago i bought the Softail Standard, a blank canvas, and everything I have done to the bike just makes it more exciting to ride, exhaust, derby cover, air cleaner insert, axle covers, front headlight trim, taking off the reflectors, doesn't even look close to the bike when i first picked it up, especially the sound, hate stock exhaust, and in the spring putting on Deans Speed widow maker handle bars, that will set the bike off the hook!
Anyway, lovely to hear your voice again and I’m happy to hear you’re doing well.
I love my forwards on my StreetBob, i could not imagine my bike with out them
So what you do with the original shift shaft inside the primary? Will it come out the other side and did the kit give you two plugs, for the outter primary hold and behind the inner primary
Thx for uploading. Nice distraction in this quarantine days. Forward control looks much better.
I was WAITING FOR THIS !! So cool 👍🏻😎
Awesome brother Your channel is growing. I have been here from day one. One million subs coming soon. Take us out for a ride around the town of Tieton so I can see what it’s like these days.
Glad you are making the bike your own.
They look great on the bike!
Outstanding and informative video !! Thank you !!
I had a Night Rod with forwards. At first it felt wired, like you said corners and slow speed maneuvers. However, I quickly got use yo them and had no issues at all.
Looks good! Being a short man myself forward controls have never been quite comfortable for me lol! 👍🏻
I had just installed a set on my 2020 street bob. Thanks.
Good looking and comfy
Well done , looks good .
Harley knows exactly what they are doing.
For only $150 you can buy a spacer kit to straighten out that shift rod .
Great video
😭😂
I don't care for forward controls myself. I like to have those footpegs under me. What I'd like to see is a conversion kit to move forward controls back. There are a lot of nice bikes out there with forward controls that should have that option. The perfect location for me is below where the seat meets the tank. Of course, then you'll probably have to raise the seat a couple inches. I would leave the forward pegs in place to stretch my legs on trips.
Glad you like them bro.
Cool. Looks how it was meant to be now. Stay safe.
I’m 5’-6” & love my forward control, even in the corners. Looks good
I'm 5'8" and to me the foward controls seemed too far out for me
Im 5 8 and like em better too!
@@KraeseRepairs Which bike? Ive noticed a good seat is the best fix!
@@KraeseRepairs What's your inseam?

Great looking motorcycle, nice video.
good info, subbed and liked…. i’m 6’4” and drooling over the 2021 street bob but i dont know if forwards will even work for me. Do you know of any aftermarket controls that go out even further? ive been searching this for days
Did the forwards on my street bob was money well spent !
Put them on 3 days after getting the softail. Took about 2 hours and well worth it. Mids didn't feel right and killed the knees after about 20 minutes.
Nice video, thinking about doing forwards on my bike.
Looks SOO Much Better! I dont like Mid controls on Harleys. I do however like them on Naked bikes.
Thank you for makin this video
I have been riding my Ninja with mid controls, and when I got on the Harley with forward controls, it was really awkward for minute. I like that my Harley has forward controls. And I also like that the Ninja has mid controls. I just have to remember which bike on.
At 6'2" I liked the forward control kit. With the stock set up, my knees were too high. It was cramped. however, I had to remove the engine guard and since I have tipped a motorcycle over a few times, I was reluctant to keep the forward controls.
the colour of this bike it's beautiful
Nice Hog and excellent vid. Is the angle of the brake pedal adjustable?
Good video .
I did not like my 19 fxbb mid controls .
Picking my feet up or putting them down the pegs were in the way . Parking sucked also . I did not like riding it .
It was never a problem on any of my other harleys.
Forwards fixed it . Now I am more confident and comfortable riding this bike .
I just got my ‘24 Street Bob last week. First Harley. Getting on and off the pegs are a pain in the azz. Def getting forward controls.
Was wondering what had happened to you. Glad you here bud.
Spades 231 I’ve been riding, just enjoying the time alone. Got another vid coming soon!
Looking cool. I am not riding yet but in Ontario Canada we are in lockdown and police are fine people out riding or driving other than work or groceries. Love the look of the bike. Cheers
Shawn Greenwood I’m in Ontario too and have been out riding 10+ times already. Cops are no bother (passed many/waved at all) never been stopped. Get that “Covid therapeutic device” out on the road. Ride safe.
@@tailgunnerdenis3331 hi Dennis, I too have seen cops out and no troubles but tonight it is going to snow and dam it cold so I am waiting till may. Lol
Idk if it's just me but forward control kits are ridiculously over priced IMO.. $450+ for this. Making a killing on em
Agree. I think theyre worth like $150
@@jayteesgear$50-$80 for me. They're literally just pieces of metal and bolts. $100-$200 for high quality forged metals
Nice ride. Enjoy ML&R
I just had forward controls put on my 2018 Low Rider. I love them. Rather expensive but well worth it!
How hard was it to install?? Thinking about getting them for my standard but I’m new to all of this and don’t know if it’s something I could do without ruining my bike or if I should take it to the dealership and let them do it
Hi, cool video, just wondering where and what kit that is?
Thanks for the video. I'm only 5'7" and I test rode a softail standard today and felt really cramped. Legs were bent too much and my knees felt too high. I'm thinking about forward controls. I was wondering what your height and inseam measurements are. I don't know if I'd have difficulty reaching the forwards. I'm 5'7" with a 29" inseam. Any feedback you can provide would be appreciated. thanks
The "more control with mids" is just a placebo thing. All you control the bike with is the handlebar, both turning and lean angle-wise.
Tom rebel only thing is if wanted to stand up on the pegs. But it’s not a adventure bike ether.
You give the initial steering impulse via the handlebar, but a lot of what follows is done with your legs against the bike. So, no, it's not a placebo thing.
If someone can't control a damn cruiser with forward controls they need to get back in their Toyota and go home to feed their cat.
@@srhintz What if you can't physically reach the forward controls?
@@MrPAULONEAL Then you can't control it with forwards. You need mids or the Toyota.😂
Good content 👌👌👌
When you removed the shifter assembly from the Primary. And installed the plug into the cover. Did you have any problems. ? Any leaks. ?
If you need to Adjust the Brake pedal higher Revelator Alf did a Video on it. Its a Two minute job but gives you perfect placement according to ones preference..
Good luck finding them now. Mine have been on order since 6/22 and just recently Harley has said that they won't be available til sometime in 2023.. You'd think that as much as Harley are fucking people over on the price of this kit, they'd have plenty in stock. They should hire me to run their P&A. You'd never ever hear the word "back ordered"
And the damn cruise control modules! Ridiculous how they can’t keep up with parts orders now.
Very cool
What size was the torque bolts? Did you have to use those that are strengthened for impact, or just regular? I’m trying to take off my softail Standard kids, and I had the regular torque set, and scrapped the shit out of it.
How long was your wait on the order pf foward controls kit to come in ?
Thank you!
Forwards are way better, but definitely need to do a stage two upgrade and a new seat. Whiplash speed co does amazing seats
Barhopping on those seats is fune but on the Freeway😮NOOO haha
The forward foot peg kit is nice. However if you try to add floor boards the mounting space is too large for aftermarket boards.
Yeah I would question that shift rod being off center to the company
I picked up my 2020 Street Bob today. And 1st ride I can say I freaking hate the mid controls. I'm only 5'9 and it's way uncomfortable of a ride. I'm still short only being 5'9 but my legs were cramping cause I need to stretch out my legs and couldn't. I had forward controls on my sporty and think either I was just used to that , but I think I'm upgrading.
I would get a nasty cramp in my right hip with the mids. Thanks for watching!
I'm considering a new Street Bob as well. I'm new to the Harley brand and I can't help but wonder, for what they charge for the bike itself and how customizable they're supposed to be compared to other bikes, how is this not a no cost factory option?
It’s what’s know as the Harley tax.... Sucks, but hey, no other bikes can compare when it comes to customization.
The brake pedal misalignment to the left looks terrible on this kit. How awkward is it trying to get to the brake pedal? Thanks
Would these interfere with front crash bars/engine mounts
You going to do stage 1?
Looks like your gear shift may be too high?
Nice Video, looks great. Do u have any problems with the angel of the shifter piece so far?
No. Works great. Going to adjust the brake pedal up when the weather warms up.
@@GasWorksISO thanks for your answer and effort
The plastic cap you put it in to fill lever hole on case what size is it and what is is called so I can't get one
The thing I didn’t like about the mid controls is setting at a light or anytime I have my feet down. The pegs are all up in my legs. When test road a few years back, that’s was my comment to them ( need forward controls ) now I’m interested in getting it as a seconded bike ( street bob )
The forwards are much better on this bike.
Gas Works Garage what did you do, as far as the shift rod running though the primary. I didn’t see on your video the fix for the shift rod
The forward kit comes with everything you need, including a new linkage. The forwards don’t use a rod thru the primary.
Gas Works Garage does the shift come out and do you plug it. Because a stock street bob a shift rod goes through the primary
Yes. The kit has a plug for the hole.
Still easy to find nuetral with them?
I feel like the forward controls on the 18+ Softails aren't forward enough. I have them in my 2020 Standard, I'm 5'11" and feel like the the legs need too be another 2" forward.
Cool
Out of interest... how tall are you... and inseam please.
Would be useful to gauge whether I would fit.
How do you find the brake lever angle... it looks quite flat (horizontal) and positioned over to the left hand side of the peg?
Thanks in advance.
👍🇬🇧
I’m 6’1” with a 34” inseam. The brake lever is a bit low, so I’m gonna adjust it sometime soon, but it’s not difficult to use. I’m more of a front brake dominant rider most the time.
How tall are you brotha?
I just bought a 2020 Softail Standard and am considering forward controls. I’m 5’8” with a 28” inseam. How tall are you and would you recommend the forwards for vertically challenged riders? 😄. Secondly, I was told that using aftermarket exhaust, air intake and fuel pack will void my warranty unless it is SE and dealer installed. I intend to just ride stock until I’m confident I have a good engine then forger about the remaining 24 month warranty period. The stock M-8 engine is fast enough for me. Your thoughts, please.
I think the forward controls would be quite a stretch for your inseam. I’d keep the mids and get the Bungking crash bar/highway peg setup for stretching out on longer rides. As for voiding the warranty, talk to your local HD service department. I spoke to mine about me adding some slip-ons and they told me that technically yes it would void the warranty, but they wouldn’t deny a service if I needed. Like you, I think the M8 has more than enough power, so, I’m gonna get some slip-ons and if I ever need the bike worked on, I’ll just throw the factory exhaust back on before bringing it in.
Thank you. Very helpful information and great videos.
You should definitely keep the mid-controls...
It's the fuel pack that will void your warranty...
Paul O'Neal Thanks. I had my 1,000 mile service done yesterday. The salesman who told me that the exhaust, intake, and fuel pack had to all be HD now tells me what you just wrote. It’s the fuel pack that has to be HD to keep the warranty. The reason the subject came up is they had a used, only 2,200 miles, Breakout with Vance and Hines Shortshots. I asked about the warranty and got the right information. Thanks again.
What's the bike in the intro video?
Did you had to swap the foot pegs from left to right? If you use them in their original side, they will not align correctly. I installed this on my Standard a few weeks ago. Night and day on the riding position and comfort. I have to figure out how to bring the brake pedal up about an inch.
No, I used the same sides as factory. There’s room to adjust the brake pedal height at the master cylinder, and I’ll be doing that also pretty soon.
@@GasWorksISO can you do a video on that?
Any of you guys have problems with the pegs scraping?
dude help me last thing i have to install is the plug for case hole but wont go in
How did you plug the primary cover? Is there a bolt for this one?
The kit comes with a plug.
can you please give me a link as to where you got your tan jacket for your gear? i would really appreciate it, i can't find it
It’s from a company called Speed And Strength. The jacket is ‘Off The Chain 2.0’ Revzilla sells them.
Hey where can i buy that control?
I've got a set of these on my 2019 Street Bob. The riding position is a great improvement, but the design of the brake pedal is very poor, and it sits far too low making it almost useless. Also, why does the black kit come with a chrome linkage for the gear lever? Harley do make a black one, but you need to buy it separately, oh wait I think I answered my own question.
Right!? The “Harley tax” 😆🤨😕☹️
How tall are you?
I got Also the forward control for my fxbb but the shit is the orijinal one i bought from harley and the breakpedal is very deep its not possible to put it higher....and right ..more stability with the middle control
4:57 it is called a timing cover
just gotta get rid of those stock pegs now XD
I want to buy a new Softail Standard and have forwards installed. Could you please tell me your height? I am 6 feet tall. I rode a Low Rider and did not like the mid controls. Thank You.
I’m also right at 6 foot tall. The forwards are really comfortable. No more hip cramps!
@@GasWorksISO thanks for responding
What's your inseam?
you can get extra length foreward controls,,comes in 2 lengths
So on my 2020 street bob I bought it off the showroom floor with forwards. I've been second guessing if that is what I want now, would you be interested in selling me your stock mids?
Yeah, I’ll sell them to you. They’ll just sit in a box in the garage otherwise...lol Shoot me an email. Sickser66@yahoo.com
If your selling the forwards, I'm interested
@@MrLoftydub I got word, they are ready to go up for grabs
Holy fuck that kit is as much as my first bike. Honda cx500.
Website ?
Can you link me this?
They curved it so you’d have clearance for the oil filter

try make at home for 500

I have a 2020 Street Bob in river rock grey as well. I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam. I was considering forward controls, but I went with the Saddlemen step up seat first. If anyone is considering a new seat, I would do the seat before the forward controls. With the Saddlemen, my riding position was shifted about an inch to the rear. Being that I'm 5'8", I think the forward controls would be a bit of a stretch for me now. I still want them, but I'm afraid I'm too short (insert manhood joke here).
I wonder if only with the Saddleman seat our right tibia avoids hitting the air cleaner box...
first lmao. sick ride
To bad this video didnt cover the primary shift shaft removal.
It’s self explanatory.
Deezamn!!!
What is a softail?? I still haven’t worked this out 🤔
It refers to the rear suspension design. Bikes without rear suspension, or ‘rigid’ frames are called hardtails. The Harley’s with ‘hidden’ rear suspensions are called softails because they have the look of the hardtail, only with suspensions..... if that makes sense..
¡ Soft Tail ! Not dyna. Probably gonna be the same for all new Soft Tails.
Looks like the brake lever is too low and the shifter is too high.
Harley completely screwed the pooch on the brake pedal alignment.
I hate forward controls.
