    I was just about to comment asking in regards to how the public transportation is in Indiana. Noticed in many Indiana videos rarely if ever see people waiting at a bus-stop. After watching numerous videos over the last 2 days this is the only one that addressed that. So thank you Jason Compton for touching on that subject. Coming from N.y that is one of the main things that I was curious about. Overall Jason Compton has the best (non-biased) channel, BY FAR, teaching about Indiana. “Thanks again sir”. Next curious info I’m going to be looking into is which of these areas are the best/safest mixed demographic areas to live in.

    Been living in Indy since 2001. Very true. Red line is fairly new, not many people outside of those surrounding neighborhoods use it. As far as sports, yes it's Colts first, Pacers 2nd and ironically is the Cubs 3rd. Those neighborhoods you mentioned you will find a ton of Chicago Cubs fans....they proudly wave the flags outside of there homes. The conventions stay mainly in the downtown area like future farmers or GenCon so traffic isn't a problem during events. The top suburbs are Carmel, Fishers, Brownsburg and Avon...zionsville , Noblesville, greenwood are next and then Lawrence and Oaklandon (Mt Vernon township) area. You will definitely stretch your dollar here. Indianapolis also offers high paying finance and tech jobs. This is a city you really have to live in to appreciate.

  • @mrjfrostbite
    @mrjfrostbite Před 2 lety +5

    Best description of Indianapolis I give people once I moved here is a big city for people who aren’t used to and wouldn’t be comfortable in actual big cities.
    Indiana is very conservative as a state with most of the residents being small town people so Indianapolis often gets over exaggerated by Indiana residents as being way more urban than it actually is. Basically if you’re moving from a one traffic light town in rural Indiana, Indianapolis is a crime ridden ghetto out of mad max. If you’re moving from literally any other major city in the Midwest it’s Mayberry. Basically a small country town that disguises itself by having tall buildings and tries to act like a big city but doesn’t do it very well.
    Basically if you come here from a Cleveland or Chicago or even Louisville let alone a New York or LA, expect to be bored out of your mind or impressed by how quaint it will feel in comparison. If you come here from hee haw county somewhere, expect to be overwhelmed by how big and scary it is. .

      as someone who's lived in rural-mid indiana their whole life and visited indy every now and then (as every indiana resident is forced to at some point) this is the truest comment i've seen so far. in addition, hearing indy described as "affordable" again and again is killing me- compared to the rest of indiana, it's ridiculous. i know it seems affordable if you're from out of state, but as an indiana resident the rent there is Very intimidating (imo). no apartments less than 1.2k a month, meanwhile where i'm from rent ranges from 300-700 a month most times.

  • @jeffjrums6051
    @jeffjrums6051 Před 2 lety +2

    Here's the thing. I'm currently living in Buffalo, originally from Rochester (NY). Looking to move elsewhere at the end of March so I'm looking at various cities. Post covid left cities like the two I just named just fine except the rent has gone up, just like everywhere else basically. So I'm looking to move because I figure my money would be better spent in a place with a little more going on, buffalo isn't that happenin' minus being so close to Toronto and Rochester is a great niche city for sure (apparently the crime is decent in both but I haven't noticed too much). All I'm saying is, every city has its stuff, moving anywhere, you're gonna have homers with opinions. Ultimately if you want safe and quiet and all that, don't live in a major city. If you want to be closer to the action and struggle to park and all that, live in a city. Can't have everything you want. For the record, I'm a drummer of 20+ years looking to have a change of scenery so I'm looking at places like Indy to see if it'd be a nice change of pace!

    First off, love your videos! We’ve been researching a lot to move to the area from CA.
    I would love your input on this though. As someone from the outside, you hear a lot about the crime rate in Indianapolis when doing any type of searches. Your videos obviously show such a beautiful side to the city and surrounding areas.
    As someone who has been in the area for so long, what is your opinion on the crime rate? Is it concerning to you? Do you think it’s something people should consider when moving there?
    As a parent to 4 young kids, I can imagine as they get older the big thing they’d want to do is go into Indianapolis. And that thought would be concerning based on some of these news stories I see. As reference, we’re from San Diego.
    This topic might actually make a great and informative video 😊

      Hey! Thanks for watching! The crime rate is certainly bad in some areas. But, that's not unlike any other good size city in the country. I have lived in Indianapolis since 1989. I have watched this city greatly deteriorate! In fact, I've never thought I'd want to move out of the city. But I assure you, crime is terrible! There seems to be a shooting or homicide daily! Our murder rate is up incredibly from last year , and last year was a record high! I'm surprised this video even mentioned Fountain Square as a nice neighborhood! I lived there for about 10 years. The homelessness, crime and high rate of drug abuse runs rampant in that community. It's a shame too because many investors have renovated homes. The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) are full of thugs, and every school has its own police. Human trafficking is prevalent during the big sporting events. The host of this show doesn't even seem like he's even lived here. The bus station is located right next to the main jail and it's dangerous! If you decide to walk around downtown, be prepared to be hassled by beggars. If you're considering moving here, I'd suggest going north of Fishers or south of Greenwood. The police are overworked and never enough of them. I once called 911 because there was a guy trying to start a fight at the laundry mat, it took the police more than 40 minutes to show up! Thank goodness the aggressor didn't have a gun. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just wished this video would had been more realistic.

      I moved to Indy 3 years ago with high hopes after researching and seeing many insights that speak similar thoughts to this video. Man do I regret this move!! I agree with everything you said. I don’t feel safe walking downtown to work because of all the beggars. The crime is bad. I can’t find a decent school for my kids because I can’t afford a private school and all the public and charter schools are full of bullies. The only positive to my move to Indy is that I really enjoy my job.

    Here is one of the worst things about living in Indianapolis. 1# Airbnb's We've lived in our home for over 15 years it is in a quiet neighborhood North of Lawrence bordering on fishers. Since may of 2022 a Investment group purchased the home next door that had mold issues but has been recently renovated but the mold still comes back.
    We were told back in May from Lawrence city council that airbnb's are illegal in residential areas in Lawrence. The community in neighborhood has posted signs , Report it to airbnb about the late night parties, the traffic in-and-out all hours of the night starting at 1am . The community has reported it to the city sill waiting. Back in May a renter tried to get a six-year-old boy inside the airbnb and sill nothing done. the neighbors and us are forced to sell our homes to be safe from Drug trafficking ,pedophiles, late night parties. Ask yourself is Indianapolis where you want to live?

    Former science teacher from Michigan. I spent 13 years living and teaching down in Lake Mary Florida. I came back to Michigan to work for UPS as a driver. I missed teaching, and coaching and I am headed back to the classroom. Because of certifications I have to leave Michigan, or go back to college at 42. I have settled on three options not in any order. 1. Florida St. Augustine / Nocatee Area ($$$$$$$). 2. Louisville Kentucky (drove through it a few times). 3. Indianapolis area - close to family, etc.
    What are your thoughts on Indianapolis compared to the three? How diverse is Indianapolis and the surrounding area? Are people moving from other areas of the country etc.?
    As much as I loved living by the beach and the Florida lifestyle I would never own a home in the current market my salary would be $46,300 for a veteran.

      @LivingInIndianapolis  Před 3 lety +1

      Indy itself is pretty diverse. The suburbs are less so. It's an affordable city but it can be a little tricky. The most desirable areas are more expensive. However, there are other parts of Indy that are safe and affordable... just not the most desired locations. I know Louisville is similar to Indy in these points. St. Augustine is probably more expensive. Although, the winters will be much milder!
